“Never cease offering me the incense of fragrant prayer for
the salvation of souls, for I want to be merciful to the world.
With your prayers, sweat, and tears I will wash the face of
my bride, holy Church.” Jesus to Saint Catherine of Sienna
We are five weeks in on our 12 week journey. Maybe you
are feeling discouraged by an apparent lack of progress
being made with your intention. Don't give up! Jesus tells
us through Saint Catherine to never stop offering all you
have to Him. He is using your acts of love in ways you may
never know this side of heaven. Trust Him, and keep going!
BLUE MASS!
Join Bishop Ricken, the Knights of Columbus, St. Jude
Assemblies and the Fraternal Order of Police for a Blue

emergency law enforcement and protective services
personnel. (Law enforcement and protective services
personnel are also invited and encouraged to attend,
including retired members.) Join us as we pray for all
those men and women who give so generously of
themselves for our public safety on September 18th, at

Sunday: 10:45 am - Mass
A NOTE FROM YOUR PASTOR! On November 13th at our 9 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral, the Year of Mercy will be ending for us as
we close our Cathedral's Holy Door. In preparation, I encourage you to do two things. First, please avail
yourself of Pope Francis's Jubilee Year of Mercy Plenary Indulgence. You will find cards detailing what is
required at the entrance to the Holy Door. Briefly, one is required either before or after passing through the
Holy Door to have the intention of acquiring the indulgence, go to confession, receive Holy Communion,
pray the Creed, pray for the Holy Father and for the answering of his prayers for the good of the Church and
the whole world, and to be truly free from all attachment to sin.
Secondly, I ask you to join me in a Do-It-Yourself 33 day Retreat beginning on October 12th. It will
then end on November 13th, the day we close our Holy Door. It can be described as an offering to Divine Mercy so as to
obtain a change of heart for ourselves and our world, so that we can experience a renewal through God's Mercy rather than
through his Justice. The book we will use is, "33 Days to Merciful Love," by Fr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC. I'm excited about
this book. It provides a little meditation for each of the 33 days. These are short readings which easily fits into our busy
schedules. He has written several books all of which have been warmly received. His writing style has been praised for its
clarity, humor and directness. The book can be found at Cathedral Book and Gift on Madison Street or by purchase online.
Please support our bookstore if you can. I will attempt to draft up a little reflection to each days reading/meditation and
share it either in the bulletin or online. Peace! Fr. Joe

“FULLY ALIVE”
ADULT FAITH FORMATION Come and hear Greg Rotherham on Thursday September
15th from 6 pm - 7:30 pm in SJE Mazzuchelli Hall.
Greg, who is in formation for the permanent order of
Deacons will speak on an issue that many struggle with,
End of Life Issues. See you then!
DIOCESAN ADULT FAITH FORMATION Adults, Youth, Cohabitation and Marriage:
For the first time in America’s history, a majority of young adults
from the ages of 25 to 34 are choosing not to get married. Even in
the Diocese of Green Bay, marriage rates have declined by
approximately 40 percent over the last ten years. Indeed, God’s
plan for marriage is being challenged on many fronts. Many
people are asking: Why bother getting married? After all, it’s just
a piece of paper. When so many marriages fail, why not keep
your options open? The adult faith formation program, Adults,
Youth, Cohabitation and Marriage is designed to help get the
conversation going at your parish! Holy Family Parish, Marinette
Tuesday, September 13th at 6:30 pm Speaker s are Deborah
Gretzinger and Dianne Vadney.
The Jewish and the Early Christian Roots of the Mass:
From the bread and wine used by Melchizedek in the time of
Abraham to the Passover celebrated by Moses and the Israelites,
a new Christian rite would spring forth. It was at the Last Supper,
on the eve of our Lord’s exodus from this world to the next, that
he transformed the Passover meal to the New Passover rite
known as the Mass. Your parish will learn about: 1.) how the
Mass was celebrated in the first and second centuries of
Christianity 2.) the connection between the Eucharistic sacrifice
and martyrdom 3.) transformative effects it has on youth and
their relationship with Christ. Holy Cross Parish, Kaukauna on
Wednesday, September 21st at 7pm. Speakers Joe Tremblay
and Corrie Christiaansen.
Why Loved Ones Leave the Church
Fr. John Girotti explores the reasons why family members,
relatives and friends drift away from the regular practice of the
Catholic faith. Many who are skeptical of organized religion will
identify themselves as “spiritual,” but not religious. What can be
said of this growing phenomenon? Can we be spiritual without
being religious? There are also many parents asking themselves,
“I raised my children Catholic, so why did they leave the
Church?” In fact, it is not uncommon among the younger
generations to claim they are not being fed at Mass. In the second
half of this presentation, Fr. Girotti will also unpack methods on
how Catholics can share the faith with others and inspire them to
be intentional St. Bernard Parish, Appleton on Monday,
September 26th at 6:30pm. Speaker is Fr . John Girotti.
When Mom or Dad Depend on You
Assisted living or nursing homes are not an option for some
people. Due to high expenses and other impediments, many adult
children are opting to take care of their elderly parents at home.
With medical concerns such as diabetes, dementia, ambulatory
challenges, etc., taking care of a parent at home can be a
daunting task; especially if their cognition or memory is in
decline. They who were once strong for us when we were
children are now relying on our strength in the prime of our
adulthood years. The good news is that this program not only
offers practical considerations for taking care of mom or dad at
home, but it provides a spiritual context in which the seasons of
life can be viewed. No doubt, this is hard work but with Christ
this loving service for our parents can be enriching! Holy Family
Parish, Brillion on Tuesday, September 27th at 6:30 pm.
To Register for any of these classes contact Mar ia Garcia at
(920) 272-8276 or [email protected]

BISHOP RICKEN’S
MONTHLY PRAYER INTENTION That those who share Christ’s Gospel, especially to
members of their own families, may do so with great mercy
and love and for an end to terrorism and an increase in
peace and unity in our world, especially within our country.
POPE FRANCIS’
MONTHLY PRAYER INTENTIONS Universal Intention: That each may contribute to the
common good and to the building of a society that places
the human person at the center.
Evangelization Intention: That by participating in the
Sacraments and meditating on Scripture, Christians may
become more aware of their mission to evangelize.
