But, we are all called to be generous with all our gifts. LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners, In today’s Gospel Our Lord looks upon the Rich Young Man with love before he asks something of him that he knew would be difficult. The 2 nd Reading today reminds us that God’s word has the sharpness of a sword, and, we can add, the precision of a scalpel: it finds precisely where the tumor is, knows where to make the necessary incision that makes our delusions fall away, but we must choose to go under the knife. We too need to contemplate the words of today’s 1 st Reading. The Wisdom of God is what we need; everything else is an investment in that for which we’re truly searching. The Wisdom of God is described as discovering the love of your life; everything else pales in comparison. Wisdom is more valuable than political power, than material wealth, than physical health or beauty. Wisdom is the true path to success. In today’s 2 nd Reading Hebrews reminds us that nothing is hidden to the eyes of the Lord, and he can reveal things within us to which even we are blind. If the Wisdom of God in the 1 st Reading is described as a splendor that even light itself can’t compare, the Word of God in the 2 nd is described as a sharp sword that cuts through any pretentions or illusions we may have about ourselves or others. The Word of God is always meant to reveal something, expressing the Wisdom of God so that we see ourselves, the world, and others in its light. Our Lord doesn’t see himself offering the Rich Young Man in today’s Gospel pain and sacrifice; he is offering him the path to a deeper love for God in exchange for the love he’s already received and shown. When the Rich Young Man tries to flatter Our Lord a little, Jesus is quick to chide him about his motives for such praise and redirects his thoughts to God. Our Lord is telling him that it doesn’t matter how rich he is, or whether he is good or bad; God’s love for him is constant. If success and moral living don’t help us grow in our love for God, they don’t go far enough; they will not satisfy us. If the Rich Young Man had taken today’s 1 st Reading (which did exist in his time) and replace the expressions “prudence” and “Wisdom” with “the love of God,” everything would have snapped into clarity. The wisdom he was truly seeking from Jesus was an awareness of the love God had for him, in which every other good thing would pale. He may have seen Our Lord as asking a costly sacrifice, but Jesus was asking him to invest the fruits of his success and goodness into something greater and for something greater. Our Lord looks upon us with love no matter what we do, but he also invites us to follow him, draw closer to him, and love him more. Many times we see that through a filter of losing something, sacrificing something. We too need to contemplate the words of today’s 1 st Reading. The Wisdom of God is what we need; everything else is an investment in that for which we’re truly searching. Let’s respond as the disciples did today and learn from the example of the Rich Young Man. CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO Queridos Feligreses, En el Evangelio de hoy nuestro Señor mira al joven rico con amor antes que pidiera algo de lo que él sabía que sería difícil. La 2ª lectura de hoy nos recuerda que la palabra de Dios tiene la agudeza de una espada, y, podemos agregar, la precisión de un bisturí: encuentra precisamente donde está el tumor, sabe dónde hacer la incisión necesaria que hace nuestras ilusiones caer, pero hay que elegir pasar por el filo del cuchillo. También tenemos que contemplar las palabras de la primera lectura. La sabiduría de Dios es lo que necesitamos; todo lo demás es una inversión en eso que nosotros estamos realmente buscando. La sabiduría de Dios se describe como, descubriendo el amor de tu vida; todo lo demás palidece en comparación. La sabiduría es más valiosa que el poder político, que la riqueza material, de salud o belleza. La sabiduría es el verdadero camino al éxito. La 2ª lectura de los hebreos nos recuerda que nada está oculto a los ojos de Dios, y él puede revelarnos cosas a nosotros aun estando ciegos. Si la sabiduría de Dios en la 1ª lectura es descrita como un esplendor que incluso a la luz de sí mismo no se puede comparar, la palabra de Dios en la 2º lectura es descrita como una espada que corta las pretensiones o ilusiones que tenemos acerca de nosotros mismos o de otros. La palabra de Dios siempre quiere revelar algo, expresar la sabiduría de Dios por lo que vemos nosotros mismos, el mundo y la luz de otros. Nuestro Señor no se ve a sí mismo ofreciéndole a él joven rico en el Evangelio de hoy. Dolor y sacrificio; él le ofrece un camino a un más profundo amor a Dios a cambio del amor que ya ha recibido y demostrado. Cuando el joven rico trata de adular un poco a nuestro Señor, Jesús rápido lo regaña acerca de sus motivos para tal alabanza y vuelve a dirigir sus pensamientos a Dios. Nuestro Señor le está diciendo que no importa cuán rico es, o si es bueno o malo; El amor de Dios para él es constante. Si el éxito y la vida moral no nos ayudan a crecer en nuestro amor por Dios, y no van lo suficientemente lejos; ellos no nos satisfacen. Si el joven rico habría tomado la 1ª lectura (que existía en su tiempo) y sustituir las expresiones "prudencia" y "Sabiduría" con "el amor de Dios," todo habría encajado con claridad. La sabiduría que él buscaba verdaderamente en Jesús, era estar consciente del amor de Dios para él, en el que todo lo demás palidecería. Él pudo haber visto a nuestro Señor y él le pudo haber pedido un sacrificio costoso, pero Jesús estaba pidiéndole invertir los frutos de su éxito y su bondad en algo mayor y algo más. Nuestro Señor nos mira con amor no importa lo que hacemos, pero también nos invita a seguirlo, acercarnos a él y amarle más. Muchas veces vemos a través del filtro de perder algo, o sacrificar algo. También tenemos que contemplar las palabras de la primera lectura. La sabiduría de Dios es lo que necesitamos; todo lo demás es una inversión en eso que nosotros estamos realmente buscando. Vamos a

talento para participar en los ministerios de la parroquia y nuestro
tesoro para apoyar a nuestra parroquia local y otras obras de
caridad.

Celebración Eucarística, nuestras oraciones y nuestro generoso aporte
financiero a través de la Propagación de la Fe para continuar la misión
de nuestro Señor de ayudar a los pobres y a los que sufren a
experimentar el amor sanador y la paz de Jesús. Nos uniremos durante
la Misa para comprometernos de nuevo a nuestra vocación misionera
adquirida a través del Bautismo. Al rezar y responder durante el
Domingo Mundial de Las Misiones en nuestras parroquias, estamos
haciendo lo mismo que también está ocurriendo en cada parroquia y
capilla alrededor del mundo al mismo tiempo. ¡Nuestros mismos
hermanos y hermanas en las misiones se encuentran ofreciendo sus
oraciones y sacrificios para que otros puedan llegar a conocer a Jesús!
Esta fecha es muy importante en la vida de la Iglesia, para impulsar en
los bautizados el espíritu misionero y solidario para ayudar a los más
necesitados. Por ello, todas las colectas que se recaben, serán
destinadas íntegramente a las misiones.
¡TODOS SOMOS MISIONEROS! ¿Recuerdas la fecha de tu
bautismo? Esta fecha es de lo más importante ya que a partir de allí te convertiste en un misionero.

Father God, I come to you in the name of Jesus and I repent of this sin and I ask that the Precious Blood of Jesus would cleanse my mind and my heart from the images that have been imprinted there. I pray that you would renew my mind with images of Jesus on the cross dying for my sins. Renew my mind with your Word according to Romans 12:1-2, Lead me Oh Lord to the scriptures that would continue my minds renewal process. Free me from the bondage Oh Holy Spirit, forgive me for having so many time offended you. You have said that no Temptation has laid hold of us, that is not common to man and that you would not allow us to be tempted beyond a point where we cannot escape. support of St. Jerome School & the St. Jerome Community will be hosting their 7th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for those in need on Thursday, November 22nd in the Father Raye Center from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and are asking for donations. Donations needed: Plates, Utensils, Cups, Napkins, Foil Paper, Mash Potatoes, Turkey Stuffing, Cans of Corn, Desserts, Can Drinks, Bottle Water, and cans of Gravy. Monetary Donations will also be accepted for the Turkeys. These items can be dropped off anytime between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday at the Church Office. Please contact Delinda in the church office for any information at 713-468-9555. Volunteers will also be needed to serve and sit with our visitors. All are welcomed to join our feast. God Bless!!! El domingo 28 de octubre, la Iglesia San Jerónimo
celebrará el DOMINGO MUNDIAL DE LAS MISIONES. Los católicos de todo el mundo estamos llamados a ofrecer en esta
Celebración Eucarística, nuestras oraciones y nuestro generoso aporte
financiero a través de la Propagación de la Fe para continuar la misión
de nuestro Señor de ayudar a los pobres y a los que sufren a
experimentar el amor sanador y la paz de Jesús. Nos uniremos durante
la Misa para comprometernos de nuevo a nuestra vocación misionera
adquirida a través del Bautismo. Al rezar y responder durante el
Domingo Mundial de Las Misiones en nuestras parroquias, estamos
haciendo lo mismo que también está ocurriendo en cada parroquia y
capilla alrededor del mundo al mismo tiempo. ¡Nuestros mismos
hermanos y hermanas en las misiones se encuentran ofreciendo sus
oraciones y sacrificios para que otros puedan llegar a conocer a Jesús!
Esta fecha es muy importante en la vida de la Iglesia, para impulsar en
los bautizados el espíritu misionero y solidario para ayudar a los más
necesitados. Por ello, todas las colectas que se recaben, serán
destinadas íntegramente a las misiones.

Luis y Delinda están pidiendo su ayuda donaciones para llevar a cabo esta misión. Necesitan: Platos, vasos, tenedores y cucharas desechables, servilletas, toallas de papel, puré de papa, salsas, pavos, latas de elote, postres, sodas, y agua embotellada. También aceptamos donaciones en efectivo. Tendremos mesas para poner la ropa que se donará a los necesitados.
