For the ease of the reader and in an effort to reconcile thepronunciation of Arabic letters into Latin, we have provided a

transliteration chart to correctly represent those words. This chart canbe found in the subsequent section.

In our translation, we have tried to maintain the originality of theliterature by using Islamic terms as is, and to an extent together withtheir translations in square brackets. Often you will see some Englishwords followed by a word in square brackets; those are the Arabic/Urdu

words that we have retained from the original text to maintain theoriginality as at times no English words can be found that are equivalentin meaning to their Arabic and Urdu counterparts.

For the citations of the various sources, we have used the APAcitation style, though we have suppressed the name of the author andhave used the title of the book instead. The pp. and p. in the

Indeed, the person to receive prompt relief from the anxieties andaccountability on the Day of Judgment will be the one who would haverecited Durd upon me in abundance, in this world. (Firdaus bimaaur-ul-Khitb, pp. 471, vol. 2, adi. 8210)

his future. He spent all night planning; thinking of delicious andexquisite cuisine, fancy and expensive attire, and a number of servantsready to fulfil his every need. Enchanted by this newly found wealthand thus fantasizing about a luxurious life, he remained entirely heedlessof the Almighty All .

The next morning when he left his house, mesmerized by thepossibilities that awaited him, he came across a graveyard. There, hesaw a man kneading clay on top of a grave, to make bricks. Instantly, the man came back to his senses, and his veil of heedlessness waslifted. He began to weep as he thought, Someday others will makebricks from the soil of my grave as well. Woe! My luxurious abode andmy fancy attire will all be left behind. If I fall for this fantastic lifestylethat this gold brick will bring me, it will only lead to a heedless life. If Ihave to fall in love, I should love my All . Hence he abandonedthe brick of gold and opted for a life of piety [Zud], full of abstinence.

    Causes of Heedlessness

Dear Islamic brothers! Truly, the chances of falling prey to heedlessnessare greater when one has an abundance of worldly wealth. One who

adores the materialistic worldly blessings has indeed fallen prey toheedlessness. Heedlessness distances one from All .

Business is a blessing, wealth is a blessing, a luxurious dwelling place isa blessing, an expensive vehicle is also a blessing, children are also ablessing, but extensively immersing oneself in any worldly blessing tothe extent of forgetting All ) is a cause of heedlessness All

says in the Qurn in Juz 28, Sra-e-Munfiqn, Verse 9:

    Heedlessness

    3

O People who believe! May not your wealth or your children cause you to

neglect the remembrance of All ; and whoever does this so it is theywho are in a loss.

    (Sra-e-Munfiqn, Verse 9, Juz 28)

    (Kanzul mn [Translation of Quran])

From this ya, there are grave lessons to be learnt, for thoseindividuals who present lame excuses like when they are called towardsrighteousness or are asked to offer al: they say We are deeplyinvolved in seeking sustenance! Is it not a form of worship to providefor your family? Or they say, When I will get time I will join you inthe Masjid. Indeed, only the heedless one makes such excuses.

    Futile Pleas of the Dead

A word of caution for those who are only concerned with amassingthe fleeting things of this world; for those who endure the hardships oftravelling to other countries in order to earn more money but hesitateto come to the Masjid; for those who lavishly spend on interior designs

for their homes but fail to give even a speck in charity for the sake ofAll ; for those who go to all sorts of extremes to acquire wealthbut do not bother about earning virtuous deeds. Be heedful! Beforedeath carries you away from your comfortable mattresses, which aredecorated in your illuminated luxurious rooms, to a terrifying darkgrave, infested with creepy insects. Then you will be left helplesslypleading; O All send me back into the world so that I may

worship you. Please, send me back. I promise I will spend all my wealth

in your way.... I will offer all my al, always joining the Jamat(congregation) in the first Rakat [i.e. Takbr-e-Aul].... I will not evenskip my Taajjud [Night Vigil] al.... In fact, I will make the Masjidmy abode.... I will maintain the Sunna-hairstyle [Zulfayn] in additionto a fist length beard.... I will also wear a turban [Imma] on myhead at all times.... O All send me back, grant me anotherchance. I will rid the world of fashion trends and will propagate theSunna.... O My Rab, All ! Give me just one more chance. I willcommit myself to righteous good deeds....

Ah! But these pleas will be futile for those who would have finishedtheir days and nights indulged in sins. The Holy Qurn has forewarnedus; All Says in the Qurn in Sra-e-Munfiqn, Verse 10 and 11:

And spend from what we have provided you before death approaches any oneof you and he then says, My Rab ! Why did you not give me respite for alittle while, so I would have given charity and become of the virtuous? AndAll will never give respite to any soul when its promise arrives; and

All is Aware of your deeds.

    A Strange Guilt

ujja-tul-Islm Imm Muammad Ghazl stated, in Mukshafa-tul-Qulb, that Sayyidun Shaykh Ab Al Daqqq

    has said,

A great saint was once very ill, so I went to visit him. When I

got there, I saw a crowd of devotees gathered around him, and the saintwas shedding tears. I asked him, O Shaykh! Are you crying becauseyou are leaving this world? He replied No, I am shedding tears becauseI have forgone myal. I asked, But how could you have forgoneyour al? He replied, Whenever I prostrated [Sajda] I was heedless, whenever I lifted my head from the prostration I was heedless, andnow I am dying in a state of utter heedlessness.

He then let out a deep sigh from the depths of his heart and read outan Arabic stanza, the translation of which is as follows:

I pondered about resurrection, judgement and my grave,Alone after a distinguished life, seeking a favour for my sins and the earth

my embrace,I have thought about the duration of my judgement, and when the book of

deeds is presented, the disgrace. But O Creator and Cherisher! I am hopeful of receiving Your Mercy

[Ramat]; My sins only you can erase.

    (Mukshifat-ul-Qulb, p. 22)

    Entering Hell in Tears

My dear Islamic brothers! The parable above offers several lessons ofwisdom. These pious saints spent every moment of their lives in theremembrance of All . But despite their constant and continuousdevotion, the elements of humbleness and humility kept them fromboasting about their devotional practices and caused them to shedtears out of fear of All . On the other hand, the heedless do notpossess even a single good deed and are furthest from the ranks ofsincerity but think highly of themselves and constantly boast abouttheir righteous activities.

The truly pious individuals, despite being distant from sins, tremble

with the fear of All and weep, but the heedless continue their

sinful activities, publicly announcing their sins, and laughing as theyboastfully relay their tales of disobedience. Beware! ujja-tul-Islm ImmMuammad Ghazl

    related that Sayyidun Abdull ibn

Abbs said, Whoever laughs while committing a sin willenter Hell weeping. (Mukshifat-ul-Qulb, p. 375)

What if one Looses Faith [Imn]?

Those who blatantly lie, those who candidly break promises withoutany remorse, those who fraudulently sell faulty goods, those who

amusingly watch movies and listen to music, those who playfully causegrief to other Muslims and hurt their feelings; all should take a momentto deeply think and ponder over their actions. What will become of us,if All and His beloved Rasl are displeased withus? What if we lose our faith as a result of boldly committing sins, andHell becomes our dwelling place?

Open your hearts and minds and hear this ya, All Says inthe 82nd verse of Sra-tu-Tauba:

So they should laugh a little and weep much.

(Sra-tu-Tauba, Verse 82) (Kanzul mn [Translation of Quran])

    Three Messengers of Death

ujja-tul-Islm Sayyidun Imm Muammad Ghazl narratedin Mukshafa-tul-Qulb that the Prophet Sayyidun Yaqb

was friends with the Angel of Death [Malak-ul-Mawt] Sayyidun Izr-

al . Once when the angel Sayyidun Izr-al came,Sayyidun Yaqb asked him, Have you come to just visit meor to take my soul? He replied, To meet you. Sayyidun Yaqb

then requested, Before you come to take my soul, send some messengersmy way (to warn me), the Angel of death, Sayyidun Izr-al agreed, I will send two or three messengers your way.

Later, when the Angel of death came to take his soul, Sayyidun Yaqb

asked, Where are the messengers you were supposedto send towards me, before taking my soul?, the angel Sayyidun Izr-al replied, Gray hair after black hair, weakness after strength, and a hunched back after a straight one; Oh Yaqb !These are my messengers, I send towards people before their deaths.(Mukshifat-ul-Qulb, p. 21)The following Arabic couplet is a warning for us:

Days have passed but sins prevail,

Angel of death has arrived but the heart is stale.Your worldly luxuries are a deceit due to which you will be in pain

Your desire to live in the world forever is a thought in vain.

Illness is also a Messenger of Death

My dear Islamic brothers! Now we understand the fact that the Angelof death sends its messengers before death. In addition to the threemessengers already stated above, there are others that have beenmentioned in other ad; like sickness, complete loss or weakness of

vision, and impaired hearing. There are many of us who already have

encountered the messenger of Sayyidun Izr-als . Woe!But what to do with our heedlessness! Our current state is such that weattribute gray hair to flu, when in fact they are the Warner of death!Similarly in sickness we remain heedless, and easily tend to forget thecountless people who die every day due to similar causes. Little do werealize that the illness that seems minor could indeed turn fatal andthen the dear ones will grieve and the enemies will rejoice, but the deadperson will be buried in a dark grave along with only his deeds, goodor bad.

Name Inscribed on the Portal of Hell

Remember! Anyone who has fallen prey to heedlessness and continuesto commit sins has lost his way and has wandered into the darkness ofevil. If All and His Rasl are displeased, as aresult, he will be incarcerated with the torments of the grave and thepunishments of the afterlife. Then remorse and guilt will be futile. You

still have a chance, repent sincerely and tread on a life of Sunna. OurHoly Prophet has warned us: Whoever deliberatelymisses a single al, his name will be inscribed on that portal of Hellthrough which he will enter. (ilyat-ul-Awliy, pp. 299, vol. 7, adi. 10590)

Similarly it is relayed in another narration, Whoever skips a day-fastduring Raman, without being legally permitted by Shara or because

of sickness; can fast all he wants later on but, those [later fasts] cannotequal in reward to that one fast, even if he makes up the missed day-fast. (Jmi Tirmi, pp. 175, vol. 2, adi. 723)

    Eyes Filled with Fire

Those who stare at women, those (paedophiles) who gaze at adolescentboys with interest, those who watch TV programs and movies, thosewho listen to music, and those who hear backbiting of others should

repent instantaneously because the torments and punishments for thesesins would be unbearable. ujja-tul-Islm, Imm Muammad Ghazl

has stated, Anyone who fills his eyes with arm [i.e. sees

what is forbidden], his eyes will be filled with fire on the Day ofJudgement. (Mukshifat-ul-Qulb, p. 10)

Nails Hammered into the Eyes and Ears

The famous ad scholar and great Shfi saint Honourable ShaykhJall-ud-dn Suy Shfi has stated, The blessed Prophet

saw people with nails hammered into their eyes andears. He was informed that, They watched what you do not watch andthey listened to what you do not listen to. (Shara-us udr, p. 171)

Therefore people who watch and listen to arm things will have nailshammered into their eyes and ears. Beware! Dont be deceived by Sataninto watching the news on television, either. Remember! It is arm

for men to look at women and for women to watch men with lust, andeveryarm activity could lead to hell.

    Imitating a Fire Worshippers Face

My dear Islamic brothers! It is arm to shave-off the beard or to trimit less than a fists length. Sayyidun Imm Muslim narratedthat the Exalted Prophet

has warned us, Trim yourmoustaches; let your beards grow and do not imitate the fireworshippers. (Sa Muslim, pp. 129, vol. 1)

This ad is calling the Muslims to awaken their conscience; isnt itstrange that people claim to love the Prophet dearly, yet they imitate his enemies.

Who Must One Veil Himself from?

My Islamic Sisters, who are listening to me from behind the veil. Beware!

Not properly covering your bodies is arm. Casting a lustful gaze atNa-Maram man is also arm and such activities could lead one toHell fire. Men must avoid looking at women and avoid all unnecessarycontact [thus establishing Parda] with all their female cousins andtheir uncles wives. Same Parda should also be established betweena man and his sisters-in-law and between a woman and her brothers-in-law. In fact, the same behaviour should also be established between

a woman and her spiritual Shaykh [Murshid]. A woman cannot kissthe hands of her Shaykh; she cannot even have his hand placed on herhead [for getting blessing]. Girls should establish Parda by the ageof 9, and boys should establish it by age of 12.

Consequences of Adapting to Prohibited Trends

The Holy Prophet said, (On the night of Mairj[ascension]) I saw the tongues of men being cut with scissors, when Iasked, Who are these people? Angel Jibrl [Gabriel] answered, They adorned themselves, in the world, with prohibitedarticles. Furthermore the Holy Prophet states that, Ialso heard screaming and shouting from a foul-smelling pit, SayyidunJibrl explained, these are women who adorned themselves

with forbidden things. (Tarkh-u-Baghdd, pp. 415, vol. 1)

Remember! Nail polish forms a layer of covering over the nails [andprevents water from reaching the nails] which means neither Wu[Ablution] nor Ghusl [Ritual Bath] is valid, this in turn invalidates al.

    Marvel of Dawat-e-Islami

Each and every one of you should embrace Dawat-e-Islami because of

it, ; you will succeed in this life and the next. Let me elaborateon a marvel of Dawat-e-Islami. This incident occurred recently and

, it will invigorate you and enlighten your heart.

    Body of Muammad Isn Ar

A liberal-minded, young Muslim, Muammad Isn, from the Gul-bar

area of Karachi [Pakistan], embraced the Madan Maul [RighteousEnvironment] of Dawat-e-Islami and became a disciple [Murd] ofarat Sayyidun Ghou-e-Aam1 , which inspired a majortransformation in his life. He maintained a full beard and wore a greenturban over his cap, at all times. Further, he learnt how to read the HolyQurn, with correct rules of pronunciation [Tajwd], at Madrasa-tul-Madna. He also participated in Nayk k Dawat [calling others towards

righteousness] and began to inspire them through his Infird Koshish[inspirational efforts].

One day he felt pain in his throat. Despite treatments, the illnessworsened, turning fatal with time. He prepared his own will, along thelines of my published will2 and handed it to the Nigrn of his locality,

just before his death. He was approximately thirty-five years old at the

time of his death and was buried in the Gul-bar Cemetery. As per hiswill, Islamic brothers conducted a congregation of ikr and Naats, forabout 12 hours near his grave. On Tuesday 6th Jamdi-ul-khir 1418A.H. (7th October 1997), about three and a half years after his death, the body of another Islamic brother, Muammad Umn Ar, was

brought to the same cemetery for burial. Some of the attendeesapproached the grave of Muammad Isn Ar to offerFtia (Il-e-awb). They were stunned to see a big gap on oneside of the grave. People were astonished to see that Muammad IsnAr, who had been buried approximately three and a half years ago,was comfortably lying there with a green turban on his head, as he wasburied, the body still intact and preserved and fragrance emanatingfrom his shroud. This news spread like wild fire and visitors crowdedthere till the late hours of the night. These onlookers were awe stricken

of all those present, when his grave was opened his body was fresh andunharmed. In the presence of many people, the body of the Martyr ofDawat-e-Islami was moved to a new grave. This incident has beenmentioned in detail in the booklet, The Marvels of Dawat-e-IslamiPart-2. I request all Islamic brothers and Islamic Sisters to embracethe righteous Madan environment of Dawat-e-Islami. There is nomembership process in Dawat-e-Islami. Make an effort to partake inyour local Dawat-e-Islami Ijtima every week and to travel with shiqn-e-Rasl [Devotees of the Prophet] in Madan Qfilah to learn the

Prophetic ways [Sunna]. Each and every single person should make aneffort to call people towards righteousness and should strive to impartthe Sunna.

    A Crown of Pearls

he book Al-Qawl-ul-Bad states that somebody from the residentof Shrz dreamt to Sayyidun Abul Abbs Amad bin Manr

he is standing in the Mirb of the main Masjid of Shrz wearing acrown of pearlson his head, dressed in a heavenly garment. The manseeing the dream asked, What did All do to you? He replied, I used to recite Durd Sharf in abundance and it is thisthat saved me. All forgave me and made me enter in the

Heaven wearing a crown of pearls. (Al-Qawl-ul-Bad, P112, Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut)

My dear Islamic brothers! Sayyidun Kab-ul-Abr was agreat Tabi saint but before accepting Islam he was a renowned Jewish

scholar. His blessed tomb is situated in the United Arab

Emirates in Al-An which is the capital of Abu Dhabi. ( Ihave blessed with the privilege to visit his blessed tombseveral times).

Sayyidun Kab-ul-Abr narrates the following story, Aman from Ban Isril, despite having repented previously, committedadultery and then went into a river to do Ghusl. When he was insidethe water he heard the river call out, Are you not ashamed of yourself?Did you not repent and promise never to do this again? When theman heard the voice he began to tremble with fear and ran away from

the river and as he ran he was saying to himself, From this day on Iwill never disobey All . He kept on running in a state of tears(out of shame), until he reached a mountain where he saw twelve piousmen engaged in worshipping All and decided to join them intheir devotional practices. After some time the men faced a famine andso they decided to set out towards the city in search for food. As theywalked they approached the same river.

That man began to tremble with fear and said, I cannot walk towardsthat river because there is someone there who is aware of my sins, Ifeel ashamed to confront him again. He stopped, but the twelve menproceeded towards the river, as they approached it they heard the rivercall out, Oh righteous people! Where is your companion? Theyreplied, He says there is someone here who knows his sins and that

he feels ashamed to confront him. The river spoke again, !If someone dear to you injures you but then regrets his action and asksyou to forgive him and forsake his evil habit, will you not reconcilewith him? Your companion has repented and engaged himself in actsof piety, therefore he has reconciled with his Creator . Bring himwith you and all of you worship at the side of this river. They gavetheir companion the glad news and then remained at the river, wherethey spent their time worshipping their Creator .

    The Calls of the River

When the man died, the river spoke, Oh righteous people! Give himGhusl with my water, and bury him alongside me so that he isresurrected from this very place on the day of judgement. They did asthey were told. That night they worshipped All and then wentto sleep near the mans grave. They had intended to proceed furtherand leave the following morning but when they awoke they saw twelvecypress trees around the grave and realised that they had been createdfor them by All and that He wanted them to remain where theywere and live under their shade. So they worshipped there for the rest

of their lives. Whenever one of them would die he would be buriedbeside the grave (of the repenter) and thus all of them passed away oneby one and the people of Ban Isril used to visit their blessed tombsfor blessings. (Kitb-ut-Tawwbn, P90, Dar Maktaba-tul-Myyad, Arabia)

May All have mercy on them and forgive us for their sakes.

    All is Watching

My dear Islamic brothers! So you see how merciful and generous All is. If anyone repents sincerely He becomes pleased with him.

This story also tells us that the sinner can never be able to hide himselffrom All

who is always watching every one.

    Never Stop Repenting

My dear Islamic brothers! When one commits a sin he should instantlyrepent to All and if he repeats the sin again he must repentagain and again and again. One must never lose hope in the mercy ofAll , His mercy has no bounds, forgiving sins does not

decrease his mercy so we must constantly repent and plead to Him

for His forgiveness. A ad says that the one who repents is likeone who has not sinned. (Ibn-e-Mja, ad 4250, V4. P491, Dr-ul-MarifaBeirut)

So repentance eliminates sins. Nevertheless, we must remain submissivein the court of All at all times and not despair of His mercy.

Will only the Righteous Enter in the Heaven?

Since we are talking about mercy let me tell you that in the past I havecome across some foolish people who have said that one can only enter

in the Heaven through virtuous actions, sinners are definitely going tobe thrown into Hell and I dont understand why you talk about beingforgiven out of mercy. These are definitely whispers of the devil. I amnot talking of Alls mercy on my own behalf, listen carefully! All says in the 53rd verse of Sra-e-Zumar (part 24):

Say you, O My bondmen who have committed excesses against their own souls

despair not of the mercy of All Undoubtedly, All forgives allsins, Verily He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.

(Sra-e-Zumar, part 24, verse 53) (Kanzul mn [Translation of Quran])

A ad Quds mentioning a statement by the Merciful Creator states, My mercy dominates at my wrath. (a Muslim, V2, P356, Afghanistan)

    Story of a Humble Man

My dear Islamic brothers! Indeed the mercy of All is endless; if

even the most minor act of piety pleases Him , He will open

the doors of favours and reward him in ways we are unable tocomprehend. The book Kitb-ut-Tawwbn mentions the followingstory narrated by Sayyidun Kabul Abr

    . Once two men

amongst the Ban Isrl walked towards the Masjid, one entered butthe other was overtaken by Alls fear and instead of entering,he remained outside and said, I, a sinner, am not worthy of placingmy filthy body in the pure house of All . This humility pleasedAll and He turned him into a iddq. (Kitb-ut-Tawwbn,P83, Maktabat-ul-Myyad Arabia)

Remember! A iddq is higher in rank than a Wal and a Shad.

    Story of a Shameful Man

The following story has been mentioned on the same page. An Israeliteonce committed a sin but afterwards he felt ashamed and regrettedwhat he had done. He panicked and restlessly ran around thinking of a

way to have his sin forgiven and please All . This feeling ofshame pleased All and he too was made a iddq.

    Repentance is to Feel Ashamed

The Beloved Rasl has said, Repentance is to feelashamed. (Al-Mustadrak, ad 7287, V5, P326 Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya)

In actual fact, sometimes feeling ashamed of sins prove to be morebeneficial than even the greatest worship. This does not mean in anyway that one should not worship. These things depend upon the willof All . Sometimes feeling ashamed leads to salvation andsometimes worship does.

    The Fasting Thief

The book Rau-ur-Riyn mentions a story of a thief narrated by

Sayyidun Ab Bakr Shibl . He says, Once I was travelling toSyria along with a group of other travellers when on the way we wereplundered by a gang of thieves. They took all our possessions and putthem in front of their gang leader. Amongst the goods were a bag ofsugar and almonds, the thieves began to eat them but their leader didnot join them. I asked him why the rest of his gang was eating but hewas not, he replied, I am fasting. I asked surprisingly, How is it that

you steal from people and fast at the same time? He replied, A manshould do something to keep the doors of reconciliation open as well.Sometime later I saw the same gang leader in a state of Irmperforming awf of the blessed Kaba. His face was resplendent withthe light of worship and he had been weakened himself throughdevotional practices. I asked surprisingly, Are you the same man? heanswered, Yes, I am, and let me tell you, that very same fast is what

caused my reconciliation with All . (Rau-ur-Riyn, P163, Maktaba-tul-Maymanyy Egypt)

    Fasting Every Monday

My dear Islamic brothers! So we have learnt that no act of piety shouldbe seen as small and be ignored, you never know, that small looking

action might just be accepted by All and might lead to yoursuccess in both worlds.

The previous story also highlights for us the importance of optionalfasts. It is obviously not easy for every single person to fast optionallyall the time but each and every one of us should at least make an attemptto fast every Monday, because it is Sunna to do so. Look at what fasting

did for that gang leader! Fasting blessed him with guidance as well assainthood.

    Excuse for Forgiveness

The book Kmy-e-Sadat mentions the following statement made

by Sayyidun Shaykh Kitn , I saw Sayyidun Junad Baghdd after his death in a dream and asked, What did All doto you? He replied, My worships and struggles were of no use to me,but the thing that caused my forgiveness was getting up at night andpraying two rakat of Taajjud al. (Kmy-e-Sadat, V2, P1007, Intishrt-e-Ganjna Tehran)

My dear Islamic brothers! One should develop a habit of performingoptional worships as well as the compulsory, especially Taajjud, younever know, struggling to get up for Taajjud might just be acceptedby All and lead to your success.

Some Muslims will Definitely Enter in the Hell

My dear Islamic brothers! Beware! This compassionate speech must

not let you believe that because the mercy of All is great youcan miss your al, not fast in Raman, sit in front of the TV andwatch films and dramas, get stare to women, the mercy of All is great, so bother your parents, swear as much as you want, lie asmuch as you want, backbite Muslims as much as you want, hurt thefeelings of Muslims, the mercy of All is great, so break all previousrecords of immorality, shave or trim your beard, steal, rob people, drink

as much alcohol as you want, intoxicate yourself, gamble, in fact whynot open a cas
