Lions Club Public Speaking Last Wednesday night Natalie, Jaya, Maya and Jaime attended the Lions Club of Ulladulla Junior Public Speaking Competition. This was held at the Dunn Lewis Centre with students from Ulladulla Public and St.Mary’s Catholic School competing against Milton. The speeches were all fantastic with many positive comments from the judges and Lions Club members. All girls representing Milton were exceptional as they had to speak in front of a large audience which included their parents. The Year 3 and 4 competition was won by Jaya from Milton and the Year 5 and 6 competition was won by a girl from Ulladulla. As a result of Milton’s entry in the Peace Poster competition and the Junior Public Speaking competition, Milton Public School received $1000 from the Lions Club.

Regional Athletics Champions! On Friday 13th of September, students from Milton Public School travelled to Canberra to take part in the Regional Athletics. Aliyah was awarded U/11 Regional Girls Champion and Mia was Runner-Up in the U/10 Girls championship. The State carnival will take place in Homebush on the 6th and 7th of November and we wish all the regional representatives’ good luck. Thank you so much to everyone for yet another fantastic Fete Day! Earlier in the week, the weather was looking a bit threatening, but once again, we were lucky to have ideal weather. So many people have been involved in making this annual event a success, all of the organisation, hard work

and long hours is done for each and every student at this wonderful school, Milton Public School. To all of the students, thank you for your energy and enthusiasm on the day! So much effort was put into your class stalls, posters and organisations of shifts at your stall. The highlights of my day were

by far seeing your beautiful smiles, hearing your laughs and hearing the joy in your voices. Well done, your positive behaviour and use of manners on the day have not gone unnoticed. To all of the teachers at MPS, thank you for organising such wonderful stalls and for continuing to be the dedicated people that you are. As always, most people only see what is happening on the day, they are not aware of the time and effort that is spent behind the scenes, thank you for your support and energy! To Rebecca in the canteen, thanks for all of your support

leading up to and on fete day. Thank you for letting the team who ran the International Food Court invade the canteen. You have been so flexible and accommodating, we appreciate your support. Thank you also to the ladies in the Front Office. Thank you for being the go-to place, accepting

orders, finalising maps and printing. Thank you for being part of our team. To Wade, our hard-working GA. I hope that you enjoyed your first fete day. Thanks so much for all of your efforts in helping to get the fete set up and packed away again. Nothing was a hassle on the day, thanks so much! Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to setup and run stalls, without your help, we could not have run as many stalls as we did. We had more than 55 volunteers on the books on the day, yet so many more just offered their help on the day. An awesome effort!

I continue to be absolutely overwhelmed by how generous our local community is. More than 100 businesses kindly donated to our school fete this year. I cannot read out every business that was involved on fete day, please make sure that that you read their names in the newsletter and the next

time that you go to one of the supporting businesses, tell them that you are from Milton Public School and thank them for their wonderful donations. Thank you to everyone who supported the raffle! I look forward to announcing the winner of the family holiday very shortly. A special mention and congratulations to Kiara Barkle. Well done Kiara, you sold the most raffle books in the whole school, as a token of our appreciation, the P&C would like to present you with a $60 voucher to Toy World, Ulladulla The P&C would also like to acknowledge all students who made an effort to sell raffle tickets! Thank you.

Finally, to all of the members of the P&C. Fete preparations started way back in Term 2, as the time got closer, the energy grew, and the pressure intensified. Our last 2 meetings ended at 10:00 at night, I tried to get everyone home earlier, but the team just wanted to keep going, they wanted the

details to be perfect and we just wanted to finish folding all of those tickets! So many hours have been spent at meetings, preparing stalls, ordering products, organising floats, seeking donations, collating raffle tickets, contacting businesses, baking, making fairy floss, organising prizes, and the list goes on. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to each and every one of you. We have a great team, your commitment to this school has not gone unnoticed. It is with absolute pride and excitement that I would like to reveal that at this stage, the total amount of money raised from the raffle and fete $22000. A final amount will be

announced next term once all invoices and takings have been received. The P&C will now work with the school to discuss, plan and purchase resources that will support all students at MPS.

NAPLAN Results Today, your child in year 3 or year 5 will have their NAPLAN results. The NAPLAN test assesses students’ current ability under test conditions, their independent skill level in Reading, Numeracy, Writing, Spelling & Grammar and Punctuation. NAPLAN is in a period of transition where students completed either a paper test and/or an online test. The objective of moving to NAPLAN online is to deliver better, more precise and more engaging assessments for schools and students. NAPLAN results, should always be interpreted with care and may not always reflect some students’ ability to perform in non-test situations nor their current level of improvement. This is also the case this year for some students who experienced disruptions due to connectivity issues during online testing, despite being given extra time. If you have any questions regarding your child’s NAPLAN results, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher.

Intensive Swimming Scheme An Intensive Swimming Scheme will be held from Monday 21st October to Friday 1st November for students in Year 2 and students in classes K-3N and K-4W. The program is an intensive learn to swim program which focuses on students who are unable to swim unaided in deep water and non-swimmers. Instruction will take place at Ulladulla Leisure Centre under instruction of qualified teachers. If a child is a strong swimmer, they will be catered for with stroke improvement lessons. Water safety is a specific component of this program. Permission notes were sent home with students two weeks ago and we are hoping that permission notes and the deposit can be paid by this Friday. If you need assistance with meeting this deadline, please contact the school office before the end of the week.

In September, our weekly tips aim to inspire and equip separated dads. This week, we are focusing on eas-ing the distress for yourself, the kids and your parenting partner/s after the separation. Family separation is a big adjust-

ment for everyone involved, re-member to be calm and sympa-thetic during this time.

Have specific arrangements for regular pick ups like schools and sports - and then be on time. It's important for the kids that you work together to build and main-tain a new routine; this will help reduce the amount of things that are 'unexpected' and can ease any 'unsettled' feelings.

Be civil with your parent-ing partner and remember that if your kids are upset, it may be because visiting the other parent is a reminder that their family is not together.

Respond to distress in a calm and sympathetic way, sometimes all they need is for you to listen and to feel understood - not a solution.

Work with your parenting partner/s to maintain similar discipline and behaviour standards.

To maintain evening routine, it's best to avoid moving kids be-tween households too close to their bedtime.

Pedestrian Safety It has been noticed that some parents are not stopping at the children’s crossing in Thomas Street to allow pedestrians, usu-ally our students, safe passage across the street. The message to all parents is simple and easy to follow: Be vigilant and do the right thing! The safety of our children is para-mount and is everyone's respon-sibility. It is far more important to be aware of people around you than securing a parking space outside the front gate. I will be asking the Ranger to at-tend school during our busy drop-off and pick-up times to enforce the rules that are in place to en-sure our kids can enter and leave school safely.
