A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSN PRESIDENT:Hello 709th Members,
Winter is ending in Wisconsin, so it's time for an update on the next reunion site and dates. Tony, Sam, Louise and
myself traveled to Louisville, KY in January to visit some sites for our Fall Reunion. After meeting with two hotels and
talking about price and location, we came back with a good understanding of what we wanted for the next reunion
Iocation and the dates. The Brown Hotel, 335 West Broadway, Louisville, KY will be the hotel of choice and the dates are
September 21- * September 24,2OL7. fhe hotel is located in downtown Louisville with the hotel offering free airport
pickup and drop offs for all guests at the hotel. This will make traveling fast and easy for those flying in for the reunion.
The city offers free shuttles to its downtown areas with many great places to see and visit. We will be having one free
day for everyone to see the downtown area (self-guided) and we will be offering one day trip to Churchill Downs. We
will be sending out updates on the cost of the reunion in the months to come. I recommend that if you have time, look
at all the sites to visit that Louisville has to offer.
The Brown Hotel is a great place with plenty of old time charm and very good restaurants. The hotel has an early L900's
charm and lovely atmosphere. The staff is very accommodating and will strive to make your stay enjoyable. You will not
be disappointed with the hotel and the beauty it has to offer. Please look up The Brown Hotel and see what I am talking
about.
I hope to see you at this yea/s reunion, and as always, let one or two of your old friends know about the reunion. We
will have the reunion posted on our website so they can look it up also. For those planning to attend this fall's reunion
the due date will be August 17 ,2OL7 . This is earlier because of the need to lock in rooms. lf you miss the date, we
cannot hold the reunion room rates for you, so please reserve early.
Thanks,
Jim Rosenthal II

FROM THE ASSN VIGE-PRESIDENT:Established on April 9, L942, the 709th Military Police Battalion will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year. Several board
members will be attending the celebration this April in Germany.
Board members met in Louisville, Kentucky earlier this year to plan our 2A17 reunion. As part of our time in Louisville
some of us were able to visit the Louisville Slugger Factory and decided to send a personalized Louisville Slugger bat to
Battalion from our association.
The bat will be inscribed with:
709th MP BN along with the unit crest.
I look forward to seeing everyone in Louisville this year.

A little bit of history:
Louisville Slugger made MP Batons and rifle stocks during
World War ll.
FROM THE SEGRETARY:First of all, this newsletter is a basically a "Save the Date" notification for the fall reunion. We realize that some of you
may need to make vacation plans early so we wanted to give you advance notice. Even though we have given you the
dates and location, there is no reservation form yet. Those should be sent out the end of May, beginning of June'
Secondly, we did try a mass email newsletter after the fall reunion. We sent printed copies to everyone who attended
the October reunion because we also included pictures. Anyone who does not have an email address was also sent a
printed copy. What we eventually realized was that some members received multiple newsletters, both email and
printed versions, while many didn't receive anything. Printing and mailing costs are expensive so our ultimate goal is to
send out the newsletter electronically to as many members as possible. A printed version of this newsletter is being
sent to all current members so, if you wish to receive future newsletters via email, please update your email address on
your membership renewalform. Or email me at: [email protected].
Lastly, if anyone is interested in being on the 709th association board, you would certainly be welcome. As you may
have noticed, most of the current board members are from C Co. We always thought we were the best, but surely some

FROM THE TREASURER:Special kudos goes to Bob Escher, (527th MP Co. 1978-8U after contacting the board inquiring if there was any interest in
renewing the website and domain for http://www.T0gthmpeuardian.com which was the original site set up by the
Association. Bob had paid each year so that nobody else could claim the domain name but lost touch when the board
turned over after the Erlanger reunion. The site is up and running and is a work in progress. We are working to give the
site a fresh and modern look with the goal of letting new potential members know how to find us and join.
lf you haven't renewed your dues there is a form attached. We sent renewal notices out at the end of the year via email
and were not confident that everyone received it. *lf you did not receive the previous newsletter or renewal notice, the
dues had been raised to S20 per vote of the members attending the October 2016 reunion. l'm looking forward to
seeing everyone in Louisville.
Fraternally,
Sam Hargadine
