Introduction

Good morning.

• Allison Seabourne. Sales Director of Mailbox Stamford Products Ltd.

• Ian Fisher. Regional Manager for Scotland.

We will start our presentation at the heart of the systems and roll out to cover the various storage

and logistics systems.

Dry Bottom basketsTen good reasons why

1. The ultrafine punch side wall pattern(2mm) guarantees a permeability of more than 50% resulting in an extremely good washing process

2.The punched sides protect fine instruments from damage and also the barrier material from damage by sharp objects

3. The top wire is plasma welded to guarantee simple cleaning and

improved hygiene.

4. The dry bottom remains in full contact with the packaging material promoting evaporation of any residual water

5. The DIN instrument basket has universal dimensions offering optimal fit into both 300 x 600 and 400 x 600mm transport baskets.

6. Baskets are made from stainless steel AISI 30 4L and electrolytic polished.

7. The baskets smooth design eliminate any possible dirt traps

8.The lower weight achieved by the use of less material reduces the amount of condensation

9.The standard baskets are equipped with a barcode zone, dotmatrix code and or your logo

10. CE certification, Medical class 1

The importance of a dry bottomThe dry base remains in full contact with the packaging material. The result: dry and sterile instruments

Baskets with a woven mesh base do not have complete contact with the packaging material therefore moisture remains within the package. The result : Damp environment with the potential of contamination

Types of autoclaves: ground loading

Page 11: TSSU Cowlairs . Storage and logistics of sterile goods

• Analysing the situation • Using 60x40 baskets: • The space provided for the storage would not be sufficient • DECISION : • Using 60x30 baskets • •Benefit of the storage capacity ( + 25%) • •Benefit of the capacity of the autoclave ( +30%)

• ACTION: • A new trolley model • •Used as an autoclave loader • •Used as a case-cart in the SD

• Purpose • UNIFORMITY EASIER WORK

The standard norms for the transport and storage systems:-

DIN norm 600 x 300 mm

Euro norm600 x 400 mm

Page 16: TSSU Cowlairs . Storage and logistics of sterile goods

The euronorm storage system offers both open and closed storage options.

•For 600 x 400 mm baskets and containers.•Additional longspan shelves for bulk storage

Din standard storage and logistics

• Storage systems: 600 x 300 mm baskets and wire shelves.

The preparation of a surgical sterile set

Advantages of a wrapped instrument basket +transport basket

• Cost effective• High capacity of the washer

disinfector.• Eliminates damage when using

the transport basket• Single touch basket by the

theatre nurse.• Safer: Dry bottom basket

improved sterility.• Max .8kg ergonomical

advavtage

Closed containers

• Expensive, replacing filters and damaged contents.

• Bulky and difficult to wash.• Low capacity in the washer

disinfector.• Damage to the lid = not

100% closure.• Retention of liquid= not

sterile.• Heavy containers: not

ergonomic

European Studies prove cost savings over life span per usage.

• Container € 511 Basket € 77.00• Interest, Interest• Labels filters, closing Labels• Non wovens 100 x 2000• Tape• NW 1200 x 1200• Waste costs Waste costs• Total cost €1.7057 €1.0635

Using your autoclave

• The sterile sets from Medstor will ensure that you use 100% of the autoclave capacity.

• Offering you : • Energy savings• Faster turnaround• Improved speed of supply• Improved storage capacity in the available

space

Page 23: TSSU Cowlairs . Storage and logistics of sterile goods

Optimising the use of your Autoclave space

• Depending on the internal space available choose either DIN or Euronorm to maximise capacity.

• Choose suitable loading methods, do you have the option of ground loading?

• Maximise efficiency, saving energy, time and space to give an improved service.

Page 24: TSSU Cowlairs . Storage and logistics of sterile goods

Choice of materialfor your transport trolleys

• The autoclave trolleys/case carts: • To withstand heat and moisture, resistant to

high temperatures, resistant to extremely high pressure and vacuum creation.

Stainless steel AISI 304L or anodised aluminium

Choice of wheel and tyres.

Trolleys for internal transport between the CSSD and Theatres

• Options dependent on your route:• Open trolleys.• Closed lockable trolleys.• Kangaroo style trolleys.• UN approved external trolleys.• Whatever your route we have the answer

Page 26: TSSU Cowlairs . Storage and logistics of sterile goods

10 Point checklist for trolleys• 1. Are the correct wheels fitted (autoclavable- washable)?• 2. Is this arrangement flexible are there sufficient positions for the shelves

baskets and any closed bins?• 3. Is the trolley designed to avoid formation of condensation on the sterile

packages?• 4. Is the base sufficiently shielded from the sterile packages so that the

wheels do not throw up dirt from the ground?• 5. Can the trolley be cleaned easily (no small recesses or cavities in which dirt

may accumulate, are the guides removable)?• 6. Is the chosen material and the surface treatment capable of withstanding

the washing process and autoclave?• 7.Is the trolley ergonomic as regards rolling resistance manoeuvrability?• 8. Are the castors contained completely inside the base to allow easy loading

and unloading from the autoclave or washing machine?• 9 . Is the stability of the trolley guaranteed in terms of tilt angle > 15°?• 10. Can the trolley be identified.

Page 27: TSSU Cowlairs . Storage and logistics of sterile goods

Checklist for the choice of storage system

• 1. Are the choice of material and the surface treatment capable of withstanding the cleaning process and the disinfectant materials?

• 2. Is the storage system modular, can I add to it easily if necessary?• 3. Is there a possibility to store small and large packages and a

combination of baskets and bins?• 4. Can the system be combined with the system used though out the

hospital?• 5. Are the transport trolleys suited to the system?• 6. Has account be taken of ergonomics? The possibility to use telescopic

guides on the frames or cupboards for heavily loaded baskets (infusions)?• 7. Is there the possibility to use an identification system?• 8. With the open system can the rear, side and top be closed if necessary?• * Storage of sterile goods directly behind the demisting area.
