LEADERSHIP REPORT PRIMARY ASSEMBLY Thank you to the Year 3/4 class who hosted the recent Primary assembly. They showed great independence as they presented their recent learning. The following students are to be congratulated on being awarded certificates for demonstrating the school’s Learning Dispositions. Self-Regulation: Jack Caulfield, Meisha Doley, Jacob Carr, Eade Calderwood, Ashlee Cave Grit: Harlan Gates, Colton Yager, LeRoy Calderwood, Abbie McPharlin, Ned Prosser Resilience: Annabel Modra, Bella Smith, Beckett Franks, Macy Foster, Kane Carey ANNE BAYETTO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Staff were really positive about the learning that took place at the recent Professional Development opportunity for our Central Eyre Partnership. Anne Bayetto is a Flinders University lecturer and has always delivered valuable, research based learning for staff. The theme of the day was Reading Comprehension with a focus on Oral Language in line with our school focus. Staff will now incorporate aspects of this day into their teaching programs. TRAFFIC LIGHTS & INTERVIEWS Families should have received a traffic light letter for each student by now. The “traffic light” system enables teachers to provide a simple graphical representation which reflects every student’s progress for each of their subject areas. Please book any resultant interviews through www.schoolinterviews.com.au. The code to enter is qxgbn, then press go. NAPLAN The school has now received the results of the NAPLAN testing from last May and staff are using this data to reflect on teaching strategies. The overall improvement in results by students in general has really demonstrated that the school’s improvement strategies are proving successful. We have been very excited to see growth of students and that our teaching strategies are having the impact we desire. Student packages will soon be sent to the school for distribution to families. YEAR 10 & 11 CAREER CONVERSATIONS Year 9, 10 and 11 students are currently meeting with Career Pathways Manager, Dianne Fitzgerald, over three days. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet with an experienced career counsellor to consider future pathways. These conversations are including investigations into tertiary studies as well as VET (Vocational Education and Training) pathways. VET begins at school and provides a strong foundation for a career in that industry. These conversations will set Year 10 and 11 students up well for their subject choice interviews which will occur on Tuesday 23
rd Septembers. More information will be sent
out to families soon. PBL PRESENTATIONS TO TUMBY BAY DISTRICT COUNCIL MEETING AT UNGARRA Year 8/9 students have been studying “What makes a great community” in Project Based Learning (PBL). This involves small groups working on projects that will benefit our community. Some of those projects will have a direct impact on our district council area. Because of this impact, the groups gave live and video presentations to Tuesday night’s Tumby Bay District Council meeting held at the Ungarra Hall. PBL staff, Gavin Hammond, Johnny McIntyre and Annette Hammond were really impressed with how well the students were able to deliver their messages to councillors.

WELL BEING AFTERNOON Last Friday afternoon, the Primary students participated in 3 really enjoyable activities after lunch. Thirteen activities were on offer. This event was organised by the Primary Well Being committee, Kalani Doley, Skyla Modra, Elke Allen, Macy Foster, Charli Solly, Ashlee Cave, Esther Pedemonte, Ned Prosser and Mrs Elson. A huge thank you to the family volunteers and staff who prepared activities and supervised. PAT TESTING Year 1- 10 students are currently sitting the PAT (Progressive Achievement Test) Reading Comprehension and Maths tests online. These tests give instant feedback for teachers to monitor progress as well as highlighting strengths and areas needing attention. EXTERNAL REVIEW Next week we have our site External Review as part of the Department for Education regular cycle of analysis. We are really pleased to engage with this process as it will give valuable feedback on how we are meeting our students needs and where to concentrate our energy next. We are looking for some parents to also speak to the panel so if you would like to be involved in this aspect please ring the school and we can schedule you in.

How do we know what the children want from their time in our care?
Guided Reflection is a supported and facilitated process involving exploration of our own perspectives and collaboratively using the children's perspective. Children’s active involvement means they are being part of a democratic process, having an impact on what
the programs and partnership look, sound and feel like. Brain storming—”What can I make for DAD” Tonight when children heard the sound of the drill this encouraged them to join in. “What are you making” “I want to make one” “My turn for the drill” Children were mostly patient and while waiting for their turn.
Guided Reflection What have we learnt -children are knowledgeable about the tools — the drill was heavy — we could see by how children held it that it was too big for most hands — reflecting can cause change — smaller drills would suit most children — 2 drills — opportunities & possibilities. Outcome 4 - As we collaborate with children, they are sharing their interests, this allows us to provide opportunities for choice, they experience the benefits of exploring purpose and function of a range of tools. Outcome 5 - Children’s voice is important as it is their OSHC
Vacation Care —— Please book in now The Vacation Care program is advertised in this newsletter. We are tak-ing bookings now and are aware that some OSHC families are away in

Framework for School Age Children — My Time, Our Place This document My Time, Our Place encourages educators to create a culture of listening to and working
collaboratively with children. Planning activities are a joint process with children spending time with each other and jotting suggestions on the whiteboard, educators taking photos of this so we can remember and facilitate it later. Spontaneous play is usually inspired by a child and extended by many, such as this 2 tier jump experience below.
