RMGC Celebrates Phase W Infrastructure Facilities

“One of the primary

advantages of the new

facilities is the layout. Every-

thing is all under one roof, or

within walking distance. We

are going to see improved

safety, increased efficiency,

and cost savings across the

board.”

On August 13, Round Mountain held a ribbon cutting celebra-

tion for its new Phase W infrastructure facilities. The facilities,

some of which are already being commissioned, which include

a new truck shop, ALPM shop, warehouse, and wash bay facil-

ity, have been under construction for the last year.

“One of the primary advantages of the new facilities is the lay-

out. Everything is all under one roof, or within walking dis-

tance,” Said Chris Swanson, Maintenance Manager Round

Mountain. “We are going to see improved safety, increased

efficiency, and cost savings across the board.”

Another key feature of the new truck shop is the increased

height and width of the bay doors. Previously, 793 haul truck

beds needed to be raised outside of the shop for transmission

repairs. In the new facility, beds can be raised all the way up

inside the shop, shortening engine change out time by three

days – a major cost savings.

The celebration included a barbeque lunch for approximately

300 employees and contractors, a ribbon cutting ceremony,

and small group tours of the new facilities. Senior leadership

from Kinross and key contractors were also in attendance,

highlighting the true group effort that the Phase W project has

been.

Mike Sylvestre, Senior VP Americas Operations, addressed

the group, acknowledging the safety culture at Round Moun-

tain. “You all were able to deliver Phase W safely, and that is a

major accomplishment” said Mike. “Safety is our first priority,

and to be able to deliver this major project safely is a shining

example of how we do things at Kinross.”

Phase W continues to progress on time and on budget, with

final commissioning of facilities expected in October of this

year.

RMHS Alumni Credits Small Town Life for Her Navy Success

Recently, a blog has been circulating around social media that

caught the eyes of many long-time locals. The blog headline

read “Round Mountain native serves aboard nation’s newest

floating airport at sea”. Pictured with the story was former

Round Mountain resident Cherry Pizzarelle. Senior Chief Petty

Officer Pizzarelle, a 1995 graduate of Round Mountain Jr/Sr

High School, is an aviation boatswain’s mate aboard the US

Navy’s USS Gerald R. Ford. Cherry is responsible for dealing

with the fuel that goes into the aircraft as well as training, guid-

ing, and mentoring junior sailors.

Cherry is described as an outstanding young lady who was

adored by many. She has spent 21 years in the Navy and

comes from a family who has served in several branches of the

military. She credits much of her success to the lessons she

learned growing up in the small town of Round Mountain. She

said in the blog, “I was taught hard work. Living in a small com-

munity you learn to help each other out and you are one team,

one family.”

The USS Gerald R. Ford is the Navy’s newest aircraft carrier.

With a crew of about 5000, this is nearly triple the population of

the Round Mountain area. See some more impressive facts

about USS Gerald R. Ford below.
