Laurence Aëgerter & Ronald van Tienhoven Tristes Tropiques: Illustrations hors texte 2010-2011 During the Brasil Festival in October and November 2011 the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy in Amsterdam premiered the Tristes Tropiques project and artist's book in the hotel's central hall. The presentation consisted of a digital version of the Tristes Tropiques artist's book.

One year ago, the village of Beetsterzwaag in Frysia (NL) was thesetting for a residential art project at Kunsthuis SYB by LaurenceAgerter and Ronald van Tienhoven.Departing from Claude Lvi-Strauss seminal publication TristesTropiques (ditions Plon, 1955), the artists recreated the frenchanthropologists photographs of Indian tribes in Brazil.All 63 original photos in the book were reenacted with a groupof Beetsterzwaag residents.By means of this form of counter exploration through spaceand time the artists emphasize the continuum of humanexpression and cultural exchange. 4.
