This Thanksgiving, rather than focus on what separates us or puts us at odds with one another, focus on the essence of Thanksgiving, that “we gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing,” and embrace one another with love and peace. In a year of tensions in the USA over politics, race, social reforms and inter- national strife, now is a good time to recognize and appreciate the love and support and togeth- erness of our family and friends. Hug your loved ones, hold their hands, enjoy tenderness and winsomeness. Thank God for your loved ones and beloved friends. Call them, tell them, show them how much they mean to you! Happy Thanksgiving, Dear Friends! God bless you!

Dear Friends, I apologize for not sending this earlier, but time has a way of getting away from me these days. Mom (Lucy Maver) and I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the amazing job the Trinity guys did, once again, "taming our jungle". It looks great! Mom is in Hospice and still has good days though the not so good days are more the norm now. She really appreci-ates receiving the prayer cards and notes from her Trinity family and I appreciate knowing that Trinity is there for her. A very special thanks goes to Ona Gilbert for her con-tinued support. Thank you again, Carol Orta

need you!

Dear Friends, John and I thank you for your prayers. It was uplifting to us to see all your signatures on the prayer card. As we read your names, we could see your faces and remember wonderful memories of knowing most of you when we lived in Pensacola. We have an appointment with a doctor in St. Louis on October 21 for a second opinion as to what we should do to identify the mass in John’s kidney and what we should do next. We will give you an update when we know more. Your prayers give us God’s comfort and strength and peace. May God bless you in many unexpected ways and encourage you in any challenges you may have. With love, Judy Harris

Dear Trinity, Your prayers for Chase have been a source of comfort and hope. We received the news a few days ago that the tissue sur-rounding the wound looks good and he is almost healed! Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers through this agonizing time. God Bless You, Diane, Scott and Chase Livingston

Please extend to your congregation, Session, and Legacy Com-mittee my personal gratitude for your grant of (up to) $10,000 to assist in paying the moving expenses for the pastor God has called to serve the Pace and Milton congregations. Your gift makes it possible for these two small churches to believe in a vision of a bright future of ministry and mission. You action give reality to the “connectional” foundation undergirding the covenant we Presbyterians have with each other. Thank you! I trust God will bless your generosity. ADVENT SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDY, November 20-December 18, 8:45AM in Room 10.

Please Join us for a combined class led by teachers from Serendipity, Sojourners, Homebuild-

ers, and the 50’s -60’s-70’s Classes.

The 5-week study, SENT, by Jorge Acevedo and four young Methodist ministers uses DVD

presentations, 12-15 minutes each, by one of the pastors telling the story of a poign-ant Christmas experience (a breakfast at Waffle House with his children; Ms. Ruby a develop-

mentally disabled woman helping at a homeless shelter on Christmas Eve; an unexpected C-section delivery of a premature baby; a Christmas tree skirt; a Google search of the odds of

you being born in a certain place at a certain time?) The ministers then discuss each’s story and consider what it means in our own lives that Jesus was sent 1) to reconcile, 2) to set us

free, 3) to be God with us, 4) to bring new life, and 5) to change everything. How are we

each called and sent in our unique ways to do the same for others? What Christmas stories do we each have to share and what about that story(-ies) informs us, empowers us?

To enhance your class experience, order Jorge Acevedo’s book SENT: Delivering the Gift of Hope at Christmas ($10.04)

and/or the daily devotional SENT: Devotions for the Season (6.69) from Amazon or Cokesbury.com. Each is available in

eBook format as well.

Children’s Church leaders needed! Children’s Church is a ministry of

the Christian Education team which prepares the children (age 4 through 2nd grade) for worship in “big” church when they enter 3rd grade Using

the elements of our worship, the children learn the meaning of the call to worship, praying, passing the peace, singing (hymns, Doxology, Gloria

Patria), offerings, lesson (sermon), etc. Symbols and banners are used to

help explain the worship parts as well as the events of Advent and Lent. Since this curriculum has been implemented, children have been

seen shaking hands during the passing of the peace and mouthing the words to the Gloria Patria, great evidence that these lessons are sticking

with them!

Please prayerfully consider if you are willing to commit 3-4 weeks

of your time to foster these precious little lives during the Sunday worship service. All the lessons are already prepared and set out each week for

the volunteers. A sign up sheet is available on the door of room 1 and

volunteers are needed immediately and throughout the year. Thank you in advance for your service to the youngest of our flock!! For more infor-

mation, please contact Laura Lawrence.

ART in the LIBRARY - Amazing BONNIE BUCCO has written, at our request, a bio of her very busy and complicated life, and what art means to her. Enjoy her story, and especially her lovely paintings in the Library and Reference room. Thank you Bonnie!

Bonnie Winn Bucco I grew up in Pensacola and was baptized, confirmed and mar-ried in First Presbyterian Church in downtown Pensacola. My father, H. Frank Winn, Jr., also grew up in First Presbyterian Church, as were his parents active members there. My mom, Gail Winn, has been active in the Presbyterian church since she and my dad moved back to Pensacola in 1968. I joined Trinity after moving back to Pensacola from Tampa, FL in 2005 because of the welcoming atmosphere and wanting my three chil-dren, Nikki, Tommy and Ricky to also have the experiences my parents gave me and my three brothers growing up. My mom was an elder at First Presbyterian and switched her membership when the kids and I joined Trinity to be part of mine and my kids’ church and faith journey and is now one of my best friends as well as a great mom and Gamma. I served as an elder from 2013-2015, as well as attending Sunday School and being active in Christian Education for myself and my three children. I have always enjoyed art, beginning as a young girl taking watercolor lessons from a local artist out of her house. I graduated from Washington High School in 1987 and attended Clemson University receiving my BA in psychology in 1991. I then went on to earn my MA in Expressive Art Therapy in 1996 at Lesley College in Cambridge, MA. I also went back and received an Education Specialist degree from Argosy University in 2009. I love the joy of art expression and how it can be healing in the process as well as the product. Art is individual to the creator and I created most of my pieces in this group in the 90’s and early 2000’s prior to marrying my husband, Rick Bucco, Jr., in 2001. Since that time I continue to enjoy art, however have less time while working as a full time mom and part time Licensed Mental Health Counselor, contract therapist for Florida Therapy Services. I also enjoy substitute teaching at Suter Elementary and being active in my kid’s lives. Although, I do not have time to create art like I used to, I actively use it in my counseling practice and believe art expression can be powerful in increasing self awareness. Art expression after my brother was murdered in 1996, was a meaningful avenue for me to process grief. I use art expression with my clients to encourage self awareness, improve communication, exploring and identifying strengths, managing anxiety and depression, and forms of relaxation tools. My favorite medium is probably watercolor, however I enjoy oils, acrylics, pencil, mixed media, pottery and photogra-phy. I hope to open an ‘Art from the Heart’ studio at some time in the future to con-tinue to use, teach, and provide experiences for others to create and love art also. Art is a form of individual expression that is personal to the creator – we are all ‘artists’ in the journey of life in some form or another and by understanding and appreciating our individual strengths, passions and joys also honors God’s presence in our daily lives.

Trinity Presbyterian Women's 2017 Winter Retreat

Our 2017 winter retreat will give us a unique opportunity to reac-

quaint with the Reverend Sara Holben, who will serve as spiritual leader

for the Trinity Presbyterian Women's retreat. The retreat will be held the

weekend of January 27-29th at the Holiday Inn Resort at Pensacola

Beach.

Pastor Sara served as interim pastor at Trinity Presbyterian from 1997

to 2000.

She left Trinity to serve as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Chester-

town, in Chestertown, Maryland. She continues her service there today.

Sara is looking forward to leading the retreat weekend at Pensacola

Beach. The restful, coastal setting will blend smoothly with her retreat

theme, "Holy Places,

Holy Time--Finding God in the Everyday." With reference to Psalm 27:8: "My heart says

of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, Lord, I will seek."

Sara brings a wealth of experience to our weekend of renewal. A graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary

in Washington, D.C., she was ordained in 1988 to her first call as Associate Pastor at a Tallahassee church.

Since then, Sara and her husband Bob Schminkey, have lived and worked in various states, including New

York, and Washington D.C. They also spent three years as PCUSA mission workers in Cape Town, South Africa.

Although she has traveled far and wide, she said she still considers Trinity among her fondest church homes.

At present, retreat planners are fine-tuning details to bring this weekend of fellowship, friends, and invaluable

lessons of faith to Presbyterian Women.

Cochairmen Beverly Patteson and Leah McCreary, are helping their team create

a memorable winter retreat for women of all ages. Retreat registration officially opens December 6th at

our Christmas luncheon at Trinity. Registration fee is $65. Holiday Inn Resort is offering special retreat rates

of $89 per night for inland rooms, or $99 per night for beachside rooms. Please watch your Tidings and Sun-

day bulletins for updates.

A festive gathering is in store to welcome the Christmas season at Trinity.

On December 6th at 10:30 a.m., Trinity Presbyterian Women will host their annual Christmas

luncheon, and you are cordially invited to attend. The event will include an entertaining sea-

sonal program in the sanctuary featuring area talent. Guest vocalist Ellen Vinson, will share

her lovely voice with a blend of moving music sure to delight our guests. Then stepping back in

time, actress Kay Yarbrough will offer a soulful glimpse of Christmas past in a "A Colonial Christmas Di-

ary." More information about our guest performers is printed below this article. After the program,

guests will gather in the activities center for our luncheon, catered by Four Seasons Catering. Luncheon

and share the joy of the sacred season. Better yet, we hope you will come, and invite friends

More about our guest performers:

ELLEN VINSON: Ellen has been a music lover most of her life. She started college as a music ma-

jor, but graduated with a degree in elementary education, as noted in a recent article. Her major served

her well, since after college, she devoted over 30 years enriching young lives as an elementary school

teacher in Northwest Florida.

Now retired, Ellen enjoys performing at events to benefit nonprofit groups, including the Pensacola

Symphony Guild, Independence for the Blind and the Pensacola Museum of Art, among others. Her favor-

ite genre is Jazz, yet she enjoys music in a rich variety of forms. She attends First Baptist Church of Pen-

sacola, and is a member of their church choir. She calls Pensacola home and enjoys volunteer work,

travel and spending time with her family.

KAY YARBROUGH: Kay will present "A Colonial Christmas Diary" at our Christmas luncheon. She

graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre. Kay is a familiar face to

local actors and theater goers, in her current position as Operations Director at the Pensacola Little Thea-

tre. Kay is a member of several lineage societies, including Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of

the American Colonists and Jamestowne Society, She currently serves as Florida State second Vice Re-

gent of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Grief Support Group How do you understand grief when your heart is broken by the death of a loved one? To survive and live forward, those who grieve must find answers. Beyond the Broken Heart is a support group for those who are grieving the death of a loved one and are in need

of a community to share the loneliness of grief. Scriptural wisdom will be used to explore the issues of grief and offer spiritual en-couragement for a life of renewed hope and joy. The group will also offer some specific coping strategies to guide the way back to fullness of life. If you are grieving the death of a loved one, please join us on the journey through grief.

It is likely that we all know someone who is affected by Alzheimer’s. Your gift and support will make a difference for someone living with the disease, their caregivers and family. Better ac-cess and knowledge of services can help caregiv-ers provide quality care to loved ones as the dis-ease progresses, helping them to reside in the community for as long as possible. Join Trinity Team for the Alzheimer's Walk Nov. 12, in honor of a friend or loved one with the disease and for the fun, exercise and fellow-ship. Questions? Call Jean Norman, 232-4851.

This is an account of Craig Effinger's dramatic resuscitation of the little boy at Holiday Inn pool at Pensacola Beach as

written up in the VA newsletter. Craig is a TLC dad, and Trinity member and his account includes when he came in to the church office and recounted the amazing experience to Hugh and the staff. Take a look at http://www.biloxi.va.gov/BILOXI/features/Poolside-Patriots.asp
