Make a connection with Jesus by Rev. Dr. Jack Horner
But as for you, continue in what you have learned
and firmly believed, knowing from whom you
learned it, and how from childhood you have
known the sacred writings that are able to instruct
you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
(2 Tim. 3.14-15)
What a gift we have in Jesus Christ! Don’t you
think so? Our Lord, who lives, invites us into a
special relationship, a friendship really, so we
can grow in our love of God and others.
One of the ways to foster that relationship is by
connecting with others in the faith through
learning events, classes, and small groups. The
emphasis on community as it relates to faith
formation has always been a part of Christian
culture. In the gospels, Jesus immediately
begins gathering persons who were interested
in learning and growing. Those early disciples
(from the Latin for “learner”) then gathered
others to continue the learning process.
We grow best in
community with
others. It’s always
been that way for
followers of Jesus.
And our future as a
church depends
on passing on the
faith to each other,
the next generation,
and the generation after that.
I’m excited for the variety of Faith Connection
opportunities this fall at Trinity for disciples of
every age. We have so much to learn, so many
ways to grow, and a message of salvation to
share with each other and our neighbors.
Check out Trinity’s website or watch for a
brochure very soon to see Trinity’s many ways
to make your Faith Connection.
Women and Justice: ELCA seeks feedback
The ELCA’s “Draft Social Statement on Women and Justice" interweaves a
confession of faith, theology, scripture, history, science, sociology and even
hymnody. Because social statements speak on behalf of the ELCA as a whole
church, the Women and Justice: One in Christ task force needs your feedback in
order to revise this text and then to send a proposed social statement to the ELCA
Churchwide Assembly in 2019. Is the statement clear? Is it what the church is being
called to say about what women and girls need?
The task force will read and consider all feedback it receives through September 30.
Feedback can be sent through an online or paper survey form or through letters
and emails. For more information and resources, go to ELCA.org/womenandjustice.

God and to love your neighbor?
This year's Fall Sup & Study will feature five top presenters from the ELCA to share Christ's ministry
among God's people from Camp Hill to the far reaches of the world.
The five-week series opens Wednesday, September 26, and continues each Wednesday

may attend all five sessions or just those of your choice.
Learn from these presenters at the “Study” sessions (6:30-7:30 pm) Each Wednesday’s program runs from 6:30 to 7:30. Presenters and topics are as follows:
Sept. 26 The Rev. Ruben Duran, ELCA Director for Congregational Vitality

"detectives of divinity" and ministers in your communities and social networks.
Oct. 3 Bishop James Dunlop, Bishop, Lower Susquehanna Synod

congregations when we feed others as we have been fed by Christ.
Oct. 10 The Rev. Daniel Rift, Director, ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Appeal

You can “Sup” first: Enjoy a meal and fellowship (5:30-6:30 pm) Dinner begins at 5:30 pm, with meals available starting at 5:20, and continuous serving until all
are served. Prayer cards will be on the tables so that eating may commence upon arrival from
5:20 forward. There is a group blessing at the conclusion of the meal, prior to the program. Cost
per meal is $8, or $5 for kids 6-12, and free for 5 and under. Family pricing, however, is capped
at $20 per evening. It’s a bargain no matter how you look at it!
Register in person or online
For the meal and for child care (available during the program if requested), advance
registration is required. For the program, advance registration is requested but not required.
Register in person at Trinity, online at https://www.TrinityCampHill.org/sup-study/, or by phone

Experience in Guatemala by Kelly Falck
Words can hardly begin to describe the amazing, life-changing experience that my 16-year-old
daughter, Olivia, and I shared in Guatemala this past July.
We were overwhelmed by the beauty of God’s creation, and amazed by the love and joy
shown by the people we met. We hope you will join us in supporting the mission of Pastor Jenn’s
organization, Tree4Hope. You can learn more about Hope Academy, the school that Pastor
Jenn is working to build, or how to become a Madrina or Padrino (godparents) to children in the
home where we served. Go to www.tree4hope.org or email [email protected].

Learn more about Trinity
Whether you want simply to explore more about Trinity or begin a path to membership, our
Discover Trinity and Begin classes are the way to go! Both are hosted several times each year.
There’s even free child care provided for infants through grade 5. Registration is encouraged, not
required, but if you know you plan to attend, RSVP to Kelly Falck at [email protected].
Discover Trinity Sunday, September 16, 9:45 to 10:45 am, Library
Let's face it, this is a large church! Finding opportunities to connect can
feel overwhelming with the many different services, programs, and
events. Whether you’re walking through our doors for the first time or
have been coming for years, you probably have questions. And this
single-session gathering is the perfect place to get answers! You’ll have
the opportunity to tour our facilities, meet some of our program staff, and
discover answers to common questions in a friendly and fun environment.
Discover where you fit in and how to get connected on your journey of faith. All are welcome.
In addition to touring the facilities, you’ll hear about these topics:
We are saved by grace alone
We are a welcoming and inclusive congregation
We are an active and vibrant community (children’s ministry, youth ministry, music ministry,
other ways to get involved)
Begin: Becoming a Trinity Member Sunday, September 23, Noon to 2 pm, Room to be determined
Be our guest for a casual luncheon gathering where you can hear from
the pastors about the beliefs and traditions of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America, learn ways to connect and serve at Trinity, and
meet other members. This special session will help you understand what
it means to be a Trinity member. And if you do choose to take that
membership step, you’ll be welcomed as a new member at a service
within the next two weekends!
Topics we’ll cover:
What’s expected of Trinity members?
Worship regularly | Give generously | Connect with others | Grow in faith | Serve others
Why do you want to be in church? What is drawing you here?
Your gifts are helping many people in need
Thanks to all who gave gift cards for Christmas in July! Your cards totaling $1,200 are helping
the prison ministry, Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties, Camp
Curtain, and Bethesda Mission. Also because of your gifts, our Social Ministry Team has
designated $2,500 in outreach funds for Christian Churches United, Camp Curtin Y, Market
Square Church, Neighborhood Center’s Cooking for Kids, and the Ecumenical Food Pantry.
Bring your animals for a blessing
Bring your pets, and tell your friends to bring their pets, too, on Saturday, October 6, at 8:15 am, for
a blessing at this special event in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. Afterward you can simply mingle
with the pets and people, or you can join Trinity on the Run for a special animal walk. Fun!

Thank-you notes
From Dean Zirkle: Just a note of appreciation for the flowers and their delivery. Having just gotten
home on the day before, they were very uplifting for my spirits and recovery. I am so blessed and
thankful for all the great folks at Trinity who care so much in our continued journey with God.
From Barbara McGovern: I am so blessed to belong to such a caring church family. Thank you to
Pastor Brock for his caring and kindness during my husband’s illness and for doing such a
beautiful job with the memorial service. Couldn't have gotten through this without him. Also
thanks to the many friends who sent sympathy cards—they gave me great comfort.
