TRINITY HOSPITAL STAFF NEWSLETTER www.mcmedical.org
Thank You from Tom Pyper, CEO
As fall is now upon us, I wanted to take this opportunity to
thank the staff for your outstanding contributions towards making
the past quarter a success.
Trinity Hospital has been awarded a Disaster Relief
Initiative grant in the amount of $1.8 million dollars. This is
incredible news for Trinity Hospital as the money will be used to
replace the aging roof, HVAC system, windows and doors. This
project is slated to begin in the spring of 2012. Thank you to Diane
Rieke, CNO, Wally Couch, Plant Operations Manager, and Larry
Masterman, Grant Writer for leading this effort.
The Emergency Room has been busy with summer traffic
and increased visits from tourists. The medical surgical unit has
been reaching capacity on many days and the staff has handled
these influxes with ease and professionalism.
Radiology has had the most successful financial quarter
since Pam Balsly joined our team. Thank you to Radiology for your
hard work.
Again, thank you to all of you for your hard work. Each one
of you makes a difference in the success of Trinity Hospital and
Mountain Communities Healthcare District.
~Tom Pyper~

OCTOBER 2011
Vanessa DeMoss has completed her internship with
Maureen Breese as a Nurse Practitioner. Our staff and
patients have grown to love her and appreciate her
personality and skills in our clinic.
Dr. McElheran has been working at our clinic on
Wednesdays. It seems that the word is spreading as we have
been filling up his schedule on a regular basis. We also want
to thank Dr. Dan for filling in so Maureen could have a
much needed vacation.
A big thank you goes out to the foundation board for their
assistance with the application for the Sierra Pacific Grant.
The funds will be used to replace the microscope, autoclave,
and EKG machine.
Thank you to all lab employees for going the extra mile in
helping Hayfork patient blood get processed and billed with
payable diagnosis.
Please congratulate Jodi Hyatt who is the now
the Nurse Manager for med surg. Jodi has
been busy reorganizing the storage on Med
Surge and the instigated the moving of the
waiting room, which is now located across the
hall.
Judy Norlund is now Nurse Manager for
ER/OR. Julie happily turned over the reins to
Judy and she has been busy continuing
learning all she can about surgery
Barbara Skinner has also accepted the role of
manager of home health. Congratulations
Barbara!
Shasta Regional Medical Center donated over
$68,000 worth of medical equipment that is
slowly being put into circulation around the
hospital.
The Auxiliary redecorated the waiting room
and it is now a much more comfortable place
for family members to wait. The med surg
unit is now fully operational with 25 beds.
Staffing is for 10 patients plus extra on
surgery days and the unit has been kept very
busy.
The hospital is still recruiting for a discharge
planner/case manager. Sharayne is planning to
work full time for home health.
A new nurse will be spotted on med surg
training throughout the months of
September and October. Please take the
time to welcome Judy Johnson, RN to the
team. Jodi would like to thank all the staff
for their hard work and dedication to
patient care and safety. It has been a very
busy time and many staff has picked up
extra shifts, going above and beyond to
help out. This hard work is always
appreciated and really shows what a great
team we have.
Bombeck’s Rule of Medicine: Never go to
a doctor whose office plants have died
Please remember to fill out an incident report form if you discover a problem or unusual event. Incident
reports are not “tattling” on a co-worker, but pointing out problems so they can be fixed. Incident reports also
help to show a trend developing before it is out of control. Be part of our TEAM and submit confidential
information to your Nurse Manager. These forms remain confidential and are not viewed by other employees.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Think Pink!
Don’t forget! Open enrollment time is approaching for TASC, Trinity Hospitals
Flexible Spending Account. This helps with medical and day care expenses. More
information will follow closer to the time.
Environmental Services
September 11-17th
, 2011 was
National Healthcare Environmental
Services Week. Mary would like to
say a huge thank you to each of the
employees in her department. You
all do an outstanding job working
very hard to keep our hospital clean.
Each of you is a valued team
member.
MCH Foundation
The Foundation has been extremely
busy in recent months with
workshops being held in numerous
areas around the county such as
Hayfork, Weaverville and Trinity
Center. Some of the topics discussed
have been fire/summer safety, and
two on diabetes. The foundation also
awarded Kaitlyn Drake the Thurnald
Hinson Scholarship for $1000 to
continue her education in health
care. The foundation also purchased
an awning to cover the CT Trailer.
This will create a much nicer
experience for patients receiving the
CT services.
Laboratory
You will be seeing a new face in the laboratory the beginning of
October. Therese Lawson will join the laboratory staff as a
certified phlebotomy technician. She recently passed her certified
phlebotomy technician certification after completing her 60 hour
externship at Trinity Hospital. Therese also helps out with the
Auxiliary volunteering her time in the gift shop. The department
is looking forward to having Therese join the team.
Compliance
Trinity Hospital has a Compliance Program. An effective program
creates an environment in which all want to do the right thing, acts
as an effective deterrent and creates an environment in which all
want to do the right thing, and creates mechanisms for detecting
violations and identifying areas of vulnerability and risk. This is
not a “one size fits all” program. To find out more about Trinity
Hospitals Compliance Program, contact Vicky Williams in the lab
@ 3xt 3231. The hotline number for reporting compliance issues
is 530-623-9211 or 1-800-948-9211. All calls are anonymous and
retaliation for reporting is strictly forbidden. For unresolved issues
contact Federal Health and Human Services Office of Inspector
General Hotline: 1-800-447-8477
Trinity Community Health Clinic
Please welcome to the TCHC Gabriel Gustafsson-Hall. Gabriel is
a second year med student from Uppsala University in Sweden.
During his stay he will be working in both TCHC, and the
Hayfork Clinic. He will also shadow Dr Krouse in his private
practice. Welcome to the Mountain Communities Healthcare
District team Gabriel!

RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
As health care workers using ionizing radiation, we are
responsible every day for ensuring the safety of our patients
and always using a dose AS LOW AS RESONABLE
ACHIEVEABLE (ALARA).
A lot of very exciting things are happening in radiology. We
were recently gifted with a number. To our surprise we
received a C-arm, a contrast warmer for the CT and an EKG
machine for the newly added pre-op room. Thanks to MCHF
and Board we will be installing a motorized awning for the CT
Trailer in the next few weeks.
Some of you may have noticed Mike Nolan is hanging around a
little later in the evening. He is now working until 11:30pm.
Megan Isbell is now number 179 on the waiting list for Shasta
College’s nursing program! Wade Nakatani, his wife Ruth and
pets Randy, Rusty and Daisy have now moved to Trinity
County. Nancy and Jim Rushing spent their vacation this
summer cruising Europe (Jealous!!) Melanie Reimann is a busy
mother of two and remains dedicated on driving up the
mountain from Redding each day. Thank you to Monica Darnel
for your dedication and willingness to travel Buckhorn to cover
shifts when we know your husband would prefer you to enjoy
retirement
