Observations, Challenges and Learnings
Few Observations / Suggestions
•Integrated Approach towards ITS will deliver Smarter outcomes and Happier Commuters •ORS and ETM Integration, ETM, VTS and PIS Integration
•Invest in next generation solutions for addressing the fast changing technology landscape – eg. Handheld Devices – GPRS/Wi-Fi/Card Module
•Don’t Invest in Building Datacenter, Use Third Party High Availability, Scalability Datacenter Infrastructure
•Move towards a minimal capex and outcome based / monthly payout commercials
•Very high sla is counter productive and escalates the cost of operations - Important to identify critical and non critical system components when defining sla
•Its important to deploy a team to do analytics on data generated by ITS
• STQC certifications can take care of security concerns
Few Observations / Suggestions
Training is very important
Periodic audits are important
Integrating with smart city program will be important thing in coming days.... system should be inherently designed for integrations
Cashless travel is the next big thing that will happen in city buses
Depending too much on data monetization ....let the market and tech innovation pass on the benefits of data monetization to you directly
Open data era is coming...what does it mean for Public Transport Undertaking ?
Challenges and Learning
Multiple Applications being run on the ETM - Ticketing, Smart Card Read/
Write and Real time Data Transfer through GPRS
Importance of Battery Capacity and Data Security concerns being
addressed
C
L
Electronic Ticketing Machine - ETM
GPS / GPRS Connectivity Issues and Real Time Data Transfer leading to delayed
information being reflected in the ITS Application
Real time Data Distribution across multiple Servers, leading to Parallel
Processing of Data in the Application
C
L
Vehicle Tracking System
Challenges and Learning
Accuracy of ETA and ETD in Urban Transport Scenario
Complimentary Role of ETM ( route direction) and VTS to increase the Accuracy of
ETA and ETD
Effective use of Geo Fencing Logic in Programming to increase Accuracy

Passenger Information System - PIS
Data Management Issues on account of 6500 VTS and 10000 ETM sending Data
