Helping the most Vulnerable

The Cambridge Cold Weather Shelter is a Maryland non-profit, 501(c)3

corporation whose primary purpose is to provide emergency shelter for homeless

persons and families, especially in the winter months and to connect them with

community services to move them out of homelessness. CCWS is an all volunteer

organization which gives the homeless a warm place to sleep and two meals per

day from December 1 through March 31 every year. This is possible completely because of the help

and donations from churches, organizations, & individuals in our community, and fundraisers held.

Hope for a brighter tomorrow.

A secondary purpose is to educate the local community in the scope, causes, and other issues related

to homelessness in our community.

The people who stay at the Shelter receive help, not only with a place to stay for

the night and a meal, they also receive advocate help with things such as:

Help with job placement

Help with finding permanent home or transitional housing.

Social work

Help with finding community resources.

We are at the beginning of an effort with the Salvation Army to develop and build a comprehensive

care facility to work with homeless and transitional housing and services in our community.

What is IRONClub Maryland? This non-profit booster organiza-tion was created to support IRONMAN endurance events in Dorchester County, including IRONMAN Maryland—one of only 13 full-length IRONMAN triathlons in the United States. IRONClub Maryland raises the $100,000 licensing fee required by IRONMAN to host an event. Compared to the economic impact, it’s a fantastic return on investment.

Putting Maryland on the Map with IRONMAN Events

VOLUNTEERSEach year, Eagleman and IRONMAN Maryland together require about 2,200 volunteers, who give a total of some 10,000 volunteer hours. Groups that volunteer have received a total of $40,000 in volunteerism grant donations annually—part of the $300,000 that the IRONMAN Foundation has given to local nonprofits, including YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, Dorchester County Public schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and volunteer fire departments.

ACCOLADES• IRONMAN Maryland earned the top “Athlete’s

Choice Award” in 2017, ranking #1 in “overall satisfaction” among athletes.

• Eagleman was selected as the location for the North American Tri-Club Championships in 2019.

ATHLETES from AROUND the WORLDEagleman and IRONMAN Maryland annually have drawn a combined 4,000 athletes from nearly every state in the United States and more than 70 countries, plus their friends and family members they bring as spectators. Which means the events introduce thousands to Dorchester County and the State of Maryland.

ECONOMIC IMPACTBased on the economic impact reports, over the last five years both IRONMAN Maryland and Eagleman have generated over $25 million to our local economy! This includes hotel and property rentals, dining, shopping, and entertainment from athletes and guests during both events and the days leading up to them. Amazingly, the impact studies do not include the additional financial impact to the community that we receive from the athletes who make many trips to the area prior to each race to practice and train!
