Treasure hunt with Geogebraby Michael Koert, Finn-Niklas C., Lara B.
How does it work? The objective of this treasure hunt is to use geometric constructions to find a hidden treasure on a map.
For motivation I first presented a short part of the film „Pirates of the Carribean“.
Then the students got a map in Geogebra-file with a map and a letter of one of the pirates who explains the way to the key.
The students have to translate the letter into math language, in special in geometric constructions.
I blocked some of the funktions of Geogebra, so the students really have to work only with compass and ruler, (like they do it in class tests).
Options:
In a second step, the students should create an own treasure hunt!
Here are different options:They can use the given map and write a new letter of a pirate with other hints.
They can use a new map of a city, a country or an other island. Of course they have to write a new letter or maybe a completly different story.
The letter
Now they have to „translate“ the hints into „math language“:
For example „It lays under the earth thirty meters away from the „Quelle“ (= source) means to draw a circle with the radius 3.

of construction)
