C hapter members collected at least $600 for a scholarship for Claudia. She is one of the top students at Fresno State and received a number of scholarships in the previous two years. Unfortunately this year her application was rejected along with a few others due to some misunderstandings.

Claudia's home county is Santa Clara County. She has an AS in Mathematics from Reedley College and graduated Cum Laude. She has been the editor of Fore Sight! magazine for the last couple of years and currently serves as President of the NSPS-Fresno State chapter. Claudia is graduating in May of 2013 and plans on pursuing an MBA in the near future.

Congratulations Claudia Barrueta!

T he Annual CSU Fresno 52nd Geomatics Engineering Conference took place at the Clovis Veterans Memorial in Clovis, California during the last weekend of January. The conference was chaired by Corey Pippin and Andreas Torsvik. The topics discussed by the speakers were incredibly diverse. We had about 200 people in attendance and needless to say the conference was a great success.

The conference attendants were treated to a number of speakers such as: Lorraine Amenda, Vincent Ambrosia, Jim Alford, Landon Blake, Dr. James Cross-field, Roger Frank, Gwen Gee, Marti Ikehara, Gary Kent, Annette Lockhart, George Marchento, Larry Otter, Jay Seymour, Chris Waters, and Juan Witrago. The topics covered were GIS, Aerial LiDAR and Photogrammetry, UAV Remote Sensing, California Water Rights, business aspects of Land Surveying, and boundary disputes.

The conference also featured an interesting panel discussion Friday before din-ner. The panel featured Ric Moore, Jay Seymour, Tony Cuomo, Gwen Gee, and Dave Woolley. The panel's discussion was focused around the next generation, technological advances, and continuing education. Overall the

discussion generated quite the response from the audience, which was very entertaining.

Friday night during dinner the CLSA Education Foundation and Caltrans were incredibly generous and gave out a number of scholarships to the students. Afterwards was the famous Bulldog Race with the grand prize being a Schonstedt magnetic locator. The winner was of the magnetic locator was Bea-trice Prieto. There were a number of professionals who donated to participate in the Bulldog Race; the donors were Gary Dixon, Dr. James Crossfield, Paul Enneking, Micheal Jonoes, Mike Hartley, Ronald Nelms, Ken Meme, Roger Frank, Beatrice Prieto, Earl and Gara Cross, Fred Wheeler, and Justin Height.

Saturday during lunch there was a presentation by Robert Vasquez of David Evan's and Associates, Inc. Mr. Vasquez spoke about the process and the challenges that came with mapping the streets of Los Angeles to make sure the Space Shuttle Endeavor was a success. As you can imagine trans-porting a space shuttle through the cluttered streets of Los Angeles can come with quite the chal-lenge.

Soon after the last presentation the GME Foundation gave out their scholarships to the students. We had a number of generous donors such as PSOMAS, Towill, Bush and Associates, Cross Land Survey-ing, Earl and Gara Cross, John Tosto, Johnson-Frank and Associates, Mark Thomas & Company, and Fred Wheeler along with many others.

Once the scholarships were over professionals stayed behind and socialized some more. The stu-dents wanted to take the time to thank every single professional who came out to support the program. We recognize that times are tough for many so the support from the community means a lot. Thank you once again to all the attendants, speakers, donors, and exhibitors.

Thank you, Claudia for submitting this article!
