26 GEARS January/February 2007 T here is a reason why more transmission professionals install TransTec kits than all other kits combined. TransTec kits and components are brought to you by Corteco, the Aftermarket Division of Freudenberg-NOK, a North American partnership of global leaders in preci- sion sealing technology for automo- tive and industrial applications. The combined resources of these companies include 54 facilities in 29 countries around the globe, and a staff of over 29,000 people. With access to these types of resources it becomes apparent why the TransTec name has become synonymous with quality and is very familiar to transmission shop owners and technicians everywhere. Becoming a world leader in the industry didn’t happen by accident. A large part of TransTec’s leadership in the industry can be attributed to a corporate vision of thinking globally while acting locally. This “think glob- ally act locally” culture has positioned TransTec to take advantage of the ever changing market for transmission com- ponents worldwide. But the biggest difference between TransTec and its competitors, besides its global presence, is its quality sys- tems, product line offering and superior distribution network. TransTec’s lean systems approach to quality ensures the quality is built into kits and compo- nents rather than inspecting them after they are already assembled. This lean systems approach is the same quality process that is used by Toyota and other OE manufacturers. TransTec’s parent companies pro- duce seals and components for virtually every auto manufacturer in the world today. With new brands of automobiles being introduced to the North American market on a regular basis, this positions TransTec to be ahead of the curve with the introduction of new product and technical support of that product. So, when it comes time to create a new seal kit, TransTec combines it’s OE manu- facturing capabilities and aftermarket experience to develop new applica- tions. TransTec kits and components are brought to you by Corteco, the Aftermarket Division of Freudenberg-NOK, a North American partnership of global leaders in preci-sion sealing technology for automo-tive and industrial applications. The combined resources of these companies include 54 facilities in 29 countries around the globe, and a staff of over 29,000 people. industry didn’t happen by accident. A large part of TransTec’s leadership in the industry can be attributed to a corporate vision of thinking globally while acting locally. This “think glob-ally act locally” culture has positioned TransTec to take advantage of the ever changing market for transmission com-ponents worldwide.

But the biggest difference between TransTec and its competitors, besides its global presence, is its quality sys-tems, product line offering and superior distribution network. TransTec’s lean systems approach to quality ensures the quality is built into kits and compo-

nents rather than inspecting them after they are already assembled. This lean systems approach is the same quality process that is used by Toyota and other OE manufacturers.

TransTec’s parent companies pro-duce seals and components for virtually every auto manufacturer in the world today. With new brands of automobiles being introduced to the North American market on a regular basis, this positions TransTec to be ahead of the curve with the introduction of new product and technical support of that product. So, when it comes time to create a new seal kit, TransTec combines it’s OE manu-facturing capabilities and aftermarket experience to develop new applica-tions. The name TransTec on the kit packaging means it contains TransTec quality on the inside; quality that meets or exceeds OEM requirements.

OEM Requirements are Just a Starting Point

“When an OEM approaches us with a request for a new seal, they include minimum performance require-ments, such as temperature resistance and durability,” says Chip Carlson – Director of Marketing. “Some manu-facturers might consider those speci-fications to be their ultimate goal; at TransTec we see them as merely a starting point.”

For the next step TransTec’s engineers draw on their collective experi-ence, as the world lead-ers in seal manufacturing, working to create sealing components exceeding OEM standards. In every case, TransTec uses the technological advances learned from past research, and includes it in their new development.

Of course, the door swings both ways: When TransTec’s engineers discover a material or manufacturing technique for a new product they’re working on, the new tech-nology is often introduced in their existing line. “It’s how we make sure TransTec products set the standard for durability and performance,” John Wozniak said.

A Wide Range ofTechnical Feedback

One of the many ways TransTec makes sure they stay on top of problems facing the industry is through their con-nections with the aftermarket.

“We have relationships with a lot of reman companies who give us feed-back on our kits.” said John Wozniak, TransTec product development man-ager. “We attend seminars and trade shows all around the world, where we get to speak with a wide range of tech-nicians. There are also several shops we’ve learned to trust to provide us with useful feedback and information.”

TransTec also collects information during shop sales visits, when their engineers can speak directly with shop technicians.

TransTec’s long-time association with ATRA is important too. Being a Charter Supplier Member of ATRA provides them with unique and valuable access to technical feedback from the field from ATRA Rebuilder Members, the ATRA HelpLine and ATRAOnLine.

TransTec always wants your input too. Have something you’d like to share with TransTec? Something you want to ask them, or a suggestion for additions

or changes to their kits? Call 419-499-2502, or visit: www.TransTec.com.

Technical Bulletins Right in the Kit…

Even the finest quality parts won’t do their jobs properly if they aren’t installed or assembled properly. That’s why TransTec includes its own bulletins with every kit. These bulletins explain any changes to the transmission or kit, and help clarify any confusion with installation procedures.

“Essentially, our technical bulletins are there to provide information on changes to the kit or components that could affect the installation… we try to cover any installation error a tech-

nician could make during a rebuild,” explained Wozniak. “If something can be improperly installed, we try to get a bulletin out on it.”

TransTec kits also include speci-fication and checkball location sheets. This puts important information right in the technician’s hands when he needs it most: While he’s rebuilding the unit. No flipping pages in a shop manual or searching internet databases: It’s all right there when you open the box. The specification and checkball bulletins in their kits are also available for down-load from TransTec’s web site: www.transtec.com.

of the paper products, and try to put some type of identification marking on all of the seals we supply,” says John Wozniak. “But the best way to be sure you’re buying a genuine TransTec prod-uct is to buy from one of our authorized distributors.” For a list of authorized dealers visit: www.transtec.com.

The Industry’s FutureThere’s little doubt these are diffi-

cult times for many independent trans-mission repair shops. Costs are up; car counts are down; and remans are cutting into the number of rebuilds that go through the shop. So, where do the folks at TransTec think the transmis-sion industry is headed? And what is TransTec’s view of our future?

“This industry has been facing

c h a l l e n g e s for as long as I’ve been in the business,” said Specialty M a r k e t Manager John Galloway. “We have a shortage of qualified techni-cians. Transmissions are more complex than ever before; they have longer war-ranties, are being built better, and are lasting longer.

“But business challenges are really nothing new. The transmission shop owners and technicians have always risen to meet any challenges we’ve faced, head on. We believe they will, once again. “TransTec is going to be right there with them too. Doing our part to

— our industry — strong and profitable.

As manufacturers, we’re working to supply our distributors with the product and information today’s shops require. It’s our job to make sure shops have quality parts and accurate technical information, so they can do the job right… the first time.”

Chip Carlson agreed: “We’re all in this business together,” he said. “By working together, we can be sure of a brighter, more successful future for all of us.”

Small parts, like these solenoid and valve body fil-ter screens, can solve big problems. With the increaseduse of solenoids, it’s critical to replace these filtersbecause they’re prone to tearingor becoming blocked with debris.Transmission professionals willnow find these filters included in

TransTec rebuild kits. Until now, most of these filtershad to be purchased separately. TransTec offers moreof these filters, in more kits, than any other supplier.

Just another value added conve-nience from the global leader inautomatic transmission rebuildkits. Insist on the best - TransTec!

We’d like to havea small part in your next rebuild.
