IN-CAB ELECTRONICS

Showcasing sophistication typically reserved for advanced aircraft cockpits, UGL and GE’s on-board locomotive systems perform a range of functions, including computerisation and applications hosting, communications control and management, distributed power, train and traction control, locomotive systems control and monitoring, audio-visual recording and cab signalling.

LOCOMOTIVE FUEL SAVING SOLUTIONS

EcoRunTM is an innovative locomotive performance system used to minimise energy consumption by advising the driver on the optimal power notch setting and live reporting of energy use.

EcoRunTM is a product developed by UGL and unique to the Australian rail market in its support of the locomotive cost and environmental performance. EcoRunTM can be fitted to any class of locomotive to assist the driver in obtaining optimal efficiency from the locomotive.

Historical run data and up-to-date track inputs are loaded into UGL’s patented simulation tool, ‘Traper2TM, which defines and designs the driving path required to optimise the haulage task. The EcoRunTM device uses this information to provide the driver with real-time fuel usage data and instructions explaining how to optimise the locomotive’s fuel consumption through a single ‘plug and play’ tablet. This tablet can be mounted to the driver’s desk or other suitable location within the operator cab.

Versatility is a key benefit of EcoRunTM. At the completion of any run the driver can transfer EcoRunTM between lead locomotives, as a mission may require. There is no requirement to have a fixed EcoRunTM tablet in each and every locomotive, thereby reducing capital purchase cost.

ENGINEERING AND DESIGN CAPABILITY

UGL provides engineering services for the telecommunications and broadcasting industries with particular emphasis on RF and optical fibre technologies.

BROADCAST TELEVISION AND RADIO

Radio Transmission and StudiosUGL is a leader in supplying high power commercial AM and FM radio transmitters throughout Australia, and has delivered such systems in Indonesia and Vietnam. UGL has delivered equipment and systems integration for digital radio across Australia.

We offer a range of studio products including talkback systems and computer based station management and automation systems.

Television Transmission UGL has delivered digital TV transmitters for commercial TV channels in all state capitals of Australia. We can provide a wide range of transmitters, signal processing and multiplexing equipment.

We are a major supplier of Video over IP (VoIP) equipment for transmission over fibre and microwave, including disaster recovery systems.

UGL builds Electronic News Gathering (ENG) vehicles for remote news gathering and offers specialised radio transmission equipment for cameras, helicopters and studio links.

Televisions StudioUGL offers a range of studio solutions including digital storage and newsroom automation. We design and deliver integrated Network Management Systems (NMS).

ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION (EMR)

Electromagnetic Radiation is the energy generated and emitted by transmitters, directed through coaxial cable or waveguide, via antennas. This energy may result in risk to personnel. Federal government regulators define limits for safe occupational and general public exposure to EMR.

UGL has developed the highly specialised skills required to test radio transmission facilities for compliance with EMR Human Exposure regulations.

Radio transmitter licensees, engineers and transmitter site managers have a legal obligation to comply with safe working practices associated with EMR. UGL can assist and work with organisations to meet these obligations and produce documented standards for their implementation.

UGL offers a comprehensive range of EMR services, including prediction and measurement of on-site conditions, pre-compliance assessments and investigations, and preparation of site radiation folders.

These services are directed primarily to the radio, television and telecommunications transmission industry for fixed, mobile and satellite infrastructure.

GSM-R

UGL provides communication systems that have been developed specifically for railway applications.

GSM-R is a digital trunking system providing voice and data functions for train scheduling, signalling, shunting, emergency calls, operation and maintenance communication, train control and passenger information services.

Our GSM-R solution provides secure communication to trains running at speeds of up to 500 km/h and forms an excellent platform for future data transmission and train control systems including ERTMS.

UGL’s GSM-R solution complies fully with EIRENE specifications and works in both the 1800 MHz and 900 MHz GSM bands.

UGL has the highly specialised project skills and experience to design, install and commission a complex GSM-R project including both infrastructure and train mounted equipment. Our core competencies include the migration of safety critical systems in the rail environment in a manner minimising disruption to operations.

We also offer free of charge evaluation and quotation for normal repairs.

Standard Repait ServiceUGL provides a ‘do and charge – order upfront’ service which is offered to all clients, including clients that do not have a current contract with us.

Express Service This service is provided for urgent repairs and generally repairs can be completed within 1-2 days. This service may incur additional charges, however, if there are no extra costs to UGL, then no additional charges will be passed to the client.

Loan Equipment Depending on availability, UGL may provide equipment on loan while a repair is taking place.

Discounts Structured maintenance contracts can offer the benefits of reduced pricing. However, we will always endeavour to better our competitor’s prices but will not compromise on support or the quality of our work.

WarrantyUGL offers a 30-day unconditional warranty on all our workshop repairs.
