2. Assessment 1. Brief description of proposal / policy / service being assessed

A bid has been submitted to the Transforming Cities fund to support improvements to public transport between Nottingham, Derby and the East Midlands Gateway site. The projects selected all aim to improve the efficiency and accessibility of public transport in order to facilitate better access to employment opportunities and key housing and development sites in between the two cities. The projects set to be delivered are the following: 1. An upgrade to the Urban Traffic Control (UTC) System will see a state of the art bus priority system rolled out across the traffic signal network. Additionally, a smart camera traffic management system will collect data which will inform decisions taken within the UTC centre aimed at improving reliability, and congestion for all traffic. 2.Provision of colour LCD screens along bus corridors and at key employer, development and interchange locations. Investment in a data brokerage system will enable non-INIT realtime data feeds to be accepted into the realtime system. 3.Mobile ticketing for the Robin Hood ticket, and a contactless payment upgrade to allow tram and Robin Hood tickets to be purchased, and smart card top-ups to be paid for, contactlessly. 4.Electric charging infrastructure at East Midlands Gateway to support an electric internal shuttle bus service; expansion of electric car charging at bus and tram park and ride sites

screentip-sectionE How different groups could be affected (Summary of impacts)

screentip-sectionF Details of actions to reduce negative or increase positive impact (or why action isn’t possible)

Disabled people or carers Depending on the resolution and colour palettes deployed, Citizens with visual impairment may have difficulty reading the new LCD colour realtime display screens set to be installed at bus stops and transport interchanges. Disabled people or carers, People from different ethnic groups, Men, Women, Older, Younger, Other All of the groups listed above are likely to benefit from the better access to job opportunities and key development sites that will result from these improvements to public transport.

On the confirmation of funding for this particularly element of the proposed package of public transport interventions. The public transport Disability Inclusion Group will be consulted and focus groups from within this group will be engaged to ascertain what mitigation needs to be put in place, so that the installation of these new displays does not lead to any disadvantage to citizens with visual impairment. These consultations will begin on confirmation of the award of funding, expected early 2019 and before the project is fully inititated. Signposting to other sources of Realtime schedule information will also be provided if necessary.
