When was the last time you as a pastor and your wife met with other couples to share the stress ofpastoral ministry and gain new insights led by skilled facilitators? (March 2017) How often can you investtwo days probing their marriage and family led by a Trinity Evangelical Divinity School professor? (August2017) The GLD Resilient Ministry 2.0 is not just another seminar or crisis counseling. This is aninvestment in the longevity and thriving of senior and solo pastors organized by the co-author of one ofthe best resources available on the unique demands of pastoral ministry. Resilient Ministry 1.0 identifiedfive critical topics (see the end of Chapter 1 - attached) and the power of 7 couple cohorts led by skilledfacilitators and excellent presenters. There are large conferences for men and great events for women, but where can you and your wife retreat and retool for your unique calling?

Cohorts of seven pastoral couples will meet together twice as couples and once for the men in 2017, Godwilling. There can be real interaction prompted by a trained facilitator led by Dr. Donald Guthrie, co-author of Resilient Ministry. Dr. Guthrie and others of excellent quality will provide catalytic teaching ateach summit on issues like personal care, marriage and the family, and the leadership and managementof the church. These themes are digested in small groups and action plans are created that can lead totransformation. Each couple signs a covenant that has been tested and affirmed.

Dr. Donald Guthrie of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School is the coordinator of this project. He will betraining the facilitators. He will be identifying the catalytic presenters. He will be recording the results forthe Kern Foundation which is generously granting the Great Lakes District $80,000 for the first year ofthis project with the possibility of a second and maybe even a third year. The only cost for the pastoralcouples is the transportation to the events. A wonderful hotel and excellent food are paid for by this grant.

After much prayer, you are the pastor and wife that our staff and our GLD board agreed would bestrategic participants in this critical ministry. We believe that these pastoral summits can lead to a newchapter of GLD ministry together. Seven pastoral couples from Michigan will be meeting. Seven pastoralcouples from Ohio and Indiana, seven from Illinois, seven church planters, and seven multiethnic pastorsand wives have been carefully chosen to be unique cohorts.

Imagine the energy and vitality of 70 GLD people gathering together in Chicagoland as part of the largegroup and the encouragement that comes from growing closer to one another in carefully designedcohorts during the two day period and praying for each other throughout the year.

The Kern Foundation and The Center for Transformational Churches, at Trinity International Universityare investing $80,000 and countless hours to invest in this proven method of pastoral summits. Dr.Guthrie is building upon eight years of experience that led to the writing of the book Resilient Ministry. This is Resilient Ministry 2.0 and you have been invited to participate in this providential opportunity.

We believe that you are strategic leaders in the ministry at the Great Lakes District. We are hopeful foryour commitment to a new chapter of interdependent ministry in the Great Lakes District led bytransformed leaders leading transformed churches among all people. We trust that you will give yourprayerful consideration to this and if you have any more questions about it please be in contact RickThompson, GLD Superintendent. For a fully detailed description of the pastoral summits, please readappendix E in the book, Resilient Ministry.

Sincerely,

Rick ThompsonSuperintendentGreat Lakes District EFCA

Shepherd SearchEmpowering Your Search for the next PastorA Major Ministry of the Great Lakes District

The transition of a church to the next pastor can lead to a new chapter of fruitfulness or frustration. The Great LakesDistrict staff of superintendents are experienced in empowering your search. Shepherd Search by Rick Thompsonis a proven process. Here are some insights we trust will be useful to youhttp://storage.cloversites.com/greatlakesdistrictefca/documents/Shepherd%20Search.pdf

1. Prayerful PreparationThe GLD Search process is saturated with prayer. The worship service bulletin asks for prayer each week. Forinstance, the first prayer request might be that God would guide in the selection of the search committee for thepastoral search. One prayer request every week keeps the congregation involved in the search as they labor inprayer.

2. Personal PresentationThe GLD Search Process clarifies the information that needs to be gathered and posted on line such as aCommunity Profile, Church Vision Statement, Core Values, and Strategy of Ministry, Church Constitution and By-Laws, and last Church Annual Report.

3. “Prophetic Profile”“Prophetic” means to “shine forth the truth.” The GLD Search Process equips you to build a unique truth filledpastoral profile that empowers you to read resumes and recognize your next pastor. Your GLD staff are “on call”during your search.

• Family married or single; children at home or empty nest• Leadership style director, influencer, collaborative, or steady (DISC)• Spiritual gifting apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers• Education Bible College or seminary required?• Special Experiences missionary service, urban experience or other• Wiring entrepreneur, manager, or technician• Community fit urban, suburban, rurban, or rural

4. Pool of ResumesThe GLD Staff equips you to work with www.ministerconnection.net our “eharmony” type tool that matches yourcompleted church profile to 100’s of vetted potential pastors. Churches also seek resumes from friends, seminaries, and trusted sources.

5. Personal Behavioral interviewsThe GLD’s Shepherd’s Search gives your search team a template of the critical questions to ask and key insights onhow to do a behavioral interview. We are also available to give counsel on reading your top resumes in yourpastoral search.

6. PreachingAs your team narrows the search the preaching ministry of a potential candidate is critical to evaluate in person ifpossible and with more than one person’s input.

7. Pastoral candidateAs your team recommends one pastoral candidate to the congregation the GLD Staff can point you to resources onseveral approaches on how to present your candidate. Once your next pastor is called we can serve you with aninstallation service that honors God and continuing person care, ministerial opportunities, and valuable equipping.

We are grateful to God that He still calls pastors to serve a local church through a healthy search process byequipped local leaders and the final call of the congregation. Here are some of the new gifts of Christ to our GLDchurches over the past few years.

Report of the “Northern Illinois Region”Regional Superintendent ‘A’

GLD Annual Conference

Rev. Daniel Grell

Region A – The area for which I assist the GLD Superintendent in church and pastoral care consists of forty-three churches. There are also three church plants in this region as well as several Hispanic ministries, butthese are not under my care at this time.

Since my report of last year we do not have any new senior pastors nor do we have any IPM staff working inthe churches. All churches have senior pastors.

Ministerials – We have six ministerial groups, which generally meet on a regular monthly basis from Septemberthrough May. These ministerial groups assist in supporting and encouraging our pastoral staffs. I strive toattend as many of their meetings as my schedule allows, as this is a significant way of connecting with andcaring for the pastors. Those who assisted in leading the ministerials this last year were Area 1, JamesWychers, Beach Bible Church, Zion, IL; Area 2, David Jones, Village Church of Barrington, Barrington, IL; Area3, Gary Kniseley, Maywood EFC, Rockford, IL (Gary has stepped down and we are looking for a new leader);Area 4, Larry Elliott, Park Hills EFC, Freeport, IL; Area 5 continues to be without a leader, which I presently fill;Area 6, Farrell Stauffer, Ashton Bible Church, Ashton, IL. This last year four of the six ministerial groups readand discussed The Great Evangelical Recession, John Dickerson. One group read Making Sense of GOD,Timothy Keller. The sixth group discussed different pastoral and ministry issues. Due to three moral failuresamong associate staff this last year I’m recommending each of our ministerial groups read J.I. Packer,Rediscovering Holiness: Know the Fullness of Life with God. While it is important to discuss the “how too’s” ofministry, we have to have men who are spiritually healthy and walking close to God so ministry will take place.

Miscellaneous - During the past year I have spent time helping churches find staff, helping those seekingplacement find positions, counseling, conflict resolution, the recovery church process for those having moralfailure, preaching and encouraging pastoral staff. I have participated in GLD staff and board meetings.

Miscellaneous outside the district – I presently mentor four young Polish men on a weekly basis. Because theylive in Poland we use Skype for our meetings. To honor them, I’m giving a good faith effort via Rosetta Stone,to learn Polish. At the time of the district conference I will have just returned from a twelve day mentoring tripto Poland, meeting with the four men I mentor on a weekly basis as well as others I know. I will have also leada men’s day on the importance of reading and studying the Bible.

Rev. Harvey Pflug

In February, 2017 I began serving the GLD assisting 35 churches in Michigan. Having served with CRU(Campus Crusade for Christ) for 31 years, I transitioned to pastoral ministry at a Cincinnati EFCA churchserving as Adult Ministries Pastor, Executive Pastor, and finally, Lead Pastor. I now enjoy the privilege ofresourcing and assisting pastors and churches in Michigan so that ‘no pastor is left alone’.

My initial six months have been filled with learning Michigan geography, meeting Michigan pastors and wives, visiting the churches in my area, and beginning to discover the hopes and needs of our EFCA churches.

As would be true in most EFCA areas, Michigan churches range from small congregations of less than 100, tocongregations over 1000.

Ministerials are strategic ways to resource pastors by meeting together for encouragement, and accountability. This is an important strategy for the Michigan region, and one of my top priorities. Gerhard de Bock leads ourlargest ministerial, which blends the important relational element of pastors learning from each other, and thedirectional aspect which helps pastors by providing accountability for their plans and goals. An east Michigan(Detroit) and a west Michigan ministerial are also being revitalized.

Part of my work with pastors is responding to their specific needs in ministry. For example, helping with staffingsearches, drafting staff manuals, working with elders and boards, connecting churches to EFCA resources, and meeting with church leaders to resolve conflicts.

This year has been a year of minimal changes in pastoral staff, with Tom Penner of St Ignace, moving toWashington EFC, Valparaiso, Indiana, to take on a new pastoral position.

The Pine Grove Church, in Stanton, MI is currently completing the affiliation process in the hopes that they willbecome an EFCA church this fall.

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of yourpartnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you willcarry it on to completion until the day of Christ JesusPhilippians 1:3-6 NIV

In my second year as Heartland Region C Superintendent, I’m relearning the importance of the need to be fully dependenton prayer. Trying to oversee 40+ GLD churches on a part-time schedule requires a full-time confidence that God is incontrol.

This has been a year of blessings as we have added three new pastors:1. Solid Word Bible Church in Indianapolis welcomed their new pastor, Curtis Coston, in July. Pastor Coston used to be

on staff at SWBC and has recently served as the Lead Pastor of Black Forest Christian Fellowship in Germany. As anAfrican American congregation, SWBC has a strategic ministry in the Pike Township area and has a strong emphasison strong Biblical teaching, discipleship and outreach to the community.

2. Washington EFC in Valparaiso welcomed their new pastor, Tom Penner. After graduating from TEDS, Tom pastoredStraits EFC in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for 17 years. Tom and his wife, Lisa, moved to Indiana with their fivechildren in July.

3. Trinity EFC in Watseka installed their new pastor, Ryan Mustered, on August 27th. Ryan and his wife, Malinda, movedfrom Wisconsin with their four children after serving as Pastor of Faith Bible Church in Greenfield. Ryan has aDoctorate in Expository Preaching and is excited about leading Trinity’s multi-church structure in a rural area.

A BIG welcome to these answers to prayer – may God bless them in their new ministries

Another big highlight this year was partnering with Dr. Donald Guthrie from TEDS in taking seven of our Heartlandpastoral couples through the Resilient Ministry training.

Ryan/Kristen Steenburg – Grace Evangelical EFC – Greenwood, INScott/Kelly Yoder – Crossroads EFC – Plymouth, INBlair/Gina Hayward – Findlay EFC – Findlay, OHJohn/Katie Heyward – Grace Community – Lima, OHDon/Joanne Beachy – Village Life EFC – IndianapolisNorell/Nicole Taylor – New Living Bible EFC - IndianapolisJay/Megan O’Brien – Scarlet City Church – Columbus, OH

The program concentrated on the topics of handling stress, building strong marriages and dealing with church conflictsfrom Dr. Guthrie’s book “Resilient Ministry -What Pastors Told Us About Surviving and Thriving.”

A big congratulations to two of our churches who held 25th Anniversary celebrations – Grace Evangelical EFC,Greenwood, IN (John Heyward and Joe Wassink) and Grace Community EFC, Lima, OH (Ryan Steenburg).

I want to give another shout out to three men who are doing a great job of overseeing three of our area ministerials: DavidKlipp (Area 7 – Indianapolis area), Blair Hayward (Area 6 – NW Ohio) and Steve Meck (Area 4 – South Bend). We haveseen improvement in our desire to reinvigorate our ministerials in Cincinnati and NW Indiana and are still praying for newleadership in these areas.

During the past year I have spent time helping churches find staff, helping those seeking placement find positions, counseling, assisting in conflict resolution, providing pulpit supply and encouraging pastoral staff. I have participated inGLD staff and board meetings. My wife, Jeanne, and I also served as part-time Retreat Leaders for Sonscape Retreatswhich holds 7-day spiritual renewal retreats for pastoral/mission couples. I also have served as an Elder at Faith ChurchEFC in Indianapolis.

I want to thank our Superintendent, Rick Thompson, and the GLD Board for their support and trust. Also, a big “thank you”to Luis Martinez who works with me as the Church Multiplication Catalyst in Indianapolis.

Approximately 7:30a.m. on July 19th Sarah Moore went home to be with the Lord. Sarah was Pastor RichardMoore’s wife and the mother of their 3 year old son, Wesley. Sarah served as worship leader in the Bluff Hallchurch, in Payson, where her husband Richard serves as the pastor. Her passing was completely unexpectedas she was only 33 and thought to be in good health. Multiple members of our ministerial and myself, attendedthe funeral on Monday the 24th in Quincy. The service was a beautiful testimony to her love for Jesus. Pleasekeep Pastor Richard, his son, Wesley, their family and the Bluff Hall church in your prayers!

Dr. Thompson and I made the trip to Springfield to meet with Pastor Brian Mills from Hope church. Pastor Millswas able to give us some encouraging news. Prior to his arrival the previous pastor had been asked to leave. When Pastor Mills took over the church had declined from a high of around 1200 down to approximately 700attenders. This presented a major challenge especially because of a significant mortgage on the building. Thegood news is that the church is now right around 1,000 people again and things seem to be moving forward.Dr. Thompson and I have asked him if he would consider having a part in planting a new church in the BradleyUniversity area.

Reports are very positive from Pastor Dave Ashby at Trinity Community Fellowship in Farmer City. Thechurch seems to be quite healthy and having a strong presence in the area. They have seen some greatgrowth in recent months. However, they are currently without an associate pastor. The desire is to hire anassociate to take some of the load off of Pastor Dave and initiate some new ministers as well.

The Brimfield church is excited to report the hiring of an associate pastor, Brennan Angle. Brennan will beserving in the area of youth ministry as well as some general associate pastor duties. His hiring comes alongwith the completion of the church addition. The church has added classrooms and new kitchen andgymnasium outreach center. Pastor Don Blasing has been casting the vision to utilize the new facility inreaching their community. This is an exciting time for the Brimfield Church.

The Taylorville Church is in the early stages of putting a search committee together. They will be seeking to fillthe senior pastor role there. They are currently using various pastors to fill the pulpit, but Pastor Don Beetumwill be doing most of the preaching while continuing there in his role of youth and family pastor. Pray forPastor Don as he works extra hard to keep up with the needs there. Pray also for the search committee.

The New Beginnings church in Quincy is still without a pastor. Thankfully, Dr. Javeux, a local hospitalchaplain is serving as an intern there. He has filled this role for them before and does a very nice job.

The rest of the churches of our ministerial seem to be solid as well. We have some great leaders in thesechurches. I am so thankful for them and their willingness to serve in so many ways.

I will be assembling a team of people to look into planting a church in the Peoria area. We have some initialthoughts that this church should be near Bradley University. This will require much prayer and the rightleaders.

After one full year in my role with the District I have had the chance to interact with a variety of pastors who arefaithfully pursuing Jesus and loving their congregations. I am grateful to Jon Moody and Steve Hjelle for theircontinued diligence in organizing the GLD Chicagoland Ministerial. This group is full of pastors who are notonly consistent in their attendance but deeply concerned about the pastoral and personal lives of all inattendance. Every meeting has a gifted presenter and the topics this year have been informative andengaging: racial reconciliation, the missional church, the role of women in ministry, caring for the pastor’s wife, financial stewardship, etc…

A new group that started this year is the Reach Chicago city group. This is a group of city pastors that gettogether to troubleshoot, encourage and spur one another on in ministry. This group is made up Tim Gioia,Jeremiah Vaught, Eric Revera, Cisco Cotto, Jon Bechtle and Matt Sole. This meeting has a church plantingedge to it as well as the group is desiring to partner together in order to host a resident with the goal of plantinga church. Thankfully the Reach Chicago group from the Northern Suburbs has set a good example to followand is eager to partner with us in pursuing our church planting goals.

Every year there are transitions and this year is no different. Bill Shereos, the Senior Pastor of First EFC, hasretired after many faithful years of ministry. In addition, Kevin Gushiken, the Senior pastor of Harvard EFC,has transitioned to being a full time professor in counseling at a Christian College. Both of these churches arein transition and are prayerfully moving onto their next stage in their journey. On a note of addition, ChicagoGospel Fellowship was launched out of Evanston Bible Fellowship as a Church plant and will have servicesstarting this Fall led by pastor Tim Ophus. Schiller park will also have a new planter who will restart a newchurch in the former building of Grace Community.

According to dictionary.com, the word highlight means: an important, conspicuous, memorable, or enjoyable event, … andthe like

And indeed there were many important, conspicuous, memorable and enjoyable events since my last report. Here just afew highlights:

Highlight - A CHURCH FACILITY DONATEDIn August 2016, Supt. Rick Thompson was informed that Faith Bible Church (not a Free Church) in Des Plaines, IL wasclosing and was considering donating its facility to the GLD. After Supt. Rick met the leadership of the church, it wasdecided that the GLD would be interested in the facility with the intention of giving the facility to the GLD’s Haitian Church(Bethel Ev. Church). Subsequently, the congregation voted unanimously to do so, followed by the GLD Board of Directorsvoting to accept the facility and to donate it to Bethel Ev. Church. After 34 years without a facility, in Feb. of this year,Bethel Church dedicated their facility.

Highlight - A PASTORAL CHANGEHiroyuki Hirunuma and his wife Hitomi came to the USA from Japan in 2002 with the intent to plant a Japanesecongregation as a part of Cornerstone EFC in Glenview, IL. Now after 15 years of faithful and fruitful ministry, Pastor Hirois retiring. The congregation has called its next pastor who is to begin his ministry in the fall. Pastor Hiro is consideringreturning to Japan to continue ministry.

Highlight - A MEETING LOCATION PROVISIONChicago International EFC experienced a difficult period when their long time worship location (Provision Theater inChicago) advised that as of 9/30/16 the meeting location would no longer be available. After much prayer and counsel anagreement was reached with Urban Voice Community Church (35

thand Morgan in Chicago) to use its facility at 2 PM on

Sundays. The transition to having Sunday worship service at Urban Voice Community Church is complete and therelationship between the 2 groups is going well.

Highlight - A RESURRECTION SUNDAY EVENTPastor Ralph Edmonds (Good News Bible Church writes, ‘“Our worship began on Friday evening with a Good Fridayservice recognizing our Savior's death on the cross and closed the evening by celebrating the Lord's Supper….[During theservice], we had a "dead" tree before the congregation symbolizing that we are dead in our trespasses and sins…. webegan Resurrection Day with a breakfast….[followed by] a wonderful time of worship…. The tree that was dead onFriday evening was "alive" and filled with colors representing the life that we have in Christ. My sermon title was "TheDeath of Death"... I opened describing the empty tomb, but went to Ephesians 2 focusing on the fact that "We were deadin our trespasses and sin, but... God made us alive in Christ Jesus." [This] Resurrection Sunday was special….’”

Highlight - A MINISTERIAL EVENTThe Win “D” City ministerial in April presented a forum on racial reconciliation. It was a challenging time as a panel of 6ministers (4 African Americans – including myself- and 2 Caucasian Americans) answered and discussed questions alongwith the other ministers present – about 15. It seems to me that the impact of the death, burial and resurrection of Christon the issue of racial reconciliation has not been brought to bear. While the impact on spiritual reconciliation isunmistakably preached, taught and practiced - and rightfully so - racial reconciliation is not preached, taught and practicedwith the same biblical conviction and force. When it comes to spiritual reconciliation, the Church has gotten it right. However, The Church must reclaim the authority it has, if true racial reconciliation is to occur. John Perkins is crystalclear, “The Gospel is meant to reconcile people to God and then to each other across cultural, ethnic, and social barriers.*My hope is that I will experience this, at least in The Church, during my lifetime.

Hallelujah! These are only snippets of the highlights from this last year that highlight God at work in the area of myministry. To Him and Him alone be all the glory, praise and thanksgiving!

Thank you for the privilege of serving Him through serving the churches that have been entrusted to my care.

Rev. Brett Gleason

So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walkingin the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied. Acts 9:31, ESV

As an association of churches our shared mission is to glorify God by multiplying transformationalchurches among all people. Imagine an EFCA Great Lakes District that doubled through church planting. Imagine how the Gospel would spread as we proclaim the Gospel through word and deed. Imagine how many lives could be changed for eternity. Imagine the global impact of all these churches sending missionaries around the world for church

planting, evangelism, and compassion ministries.

The Church at Antioch sent their very best – Paul, Barnabas, and John Mark to proclaim the gospel thatresulted in the planting of churches to reach the nations with the Gospel. Likewise, the EFCA is committed tothe conviction that churches plant churches and that EFCA and Great Lakes District staff are there to help inthis endeavor.

District and national staff have worked together to develop and implement key church planting systems toaccomplish this mission. First, an assessment system that serves EFCA churches by assessing the churchplanting potential for a candidate. Second, a coaching system that ensures that every church planter has acoach to walk with them through the church planting process. Third, a training system that gives the churchplanter and his team a template to develop a strategic plan for the new church. Fourth, a support system thatdevelops strategic partnerships of churches and individuals to support and resource the new church.

But good systems, as important as they are, do not alone accomplish the mission. To accomplish the missionwe must have a commitment to the continual planting of new churches. This starts with churches renewingtheir commitment to the advancement of the gospel through church planting. It continues with churchesworking with like minded partners to plant new churches because we are stronger together than apart. Willyou join us on this mission?

Becoming a movement of multiplying EFCA churches

We long to be an association marked by the vigorous, continual planting of new churches. Imagine with methat the EFCA is an airplane. One wing of the EFCA airplane is our commitment to our shared evangelicalconvictions as stated in our Statement of Faith. If we try to fly an airplane with only one wing, we will not evenget off the ground. The other wing of the EFCA airplane is our missional thrust of multiplying transformationalchurches among all people - otherwise known as our mission statement. To set the foundation for this movement of multiplying churches we divided our mission into three simplephases.

Phase One: Twelve Sending ChurchesTwelve sending churches that start twelve new churches. Sending churches are churches that make asignificant contribution to the planting of a new church by sending out leadership (pastors and/or elders),people (roughly 10 families), and/or financial resources. This could be a mother-daughter church plantingsituation (the mother church calls a church planter) or a partner church planting situation (a church partnerswith a church planter who is called to a particular area or people group).

Praise God that we made our goal of twelve sending churches.

Phase Two: 36 sending churches36 Sending churches that start 36 new churches - 6% multiplication rate.

Report of the Director of Church Planting

We are now in phase two of our church planting development. We are seeking to work with 36 churches topartner with us to plant churches across Illinois, Indians, Michigan, and western Ohio. If your church isinterested we can provide coaching, consulting, and training so that your church is prepared to enter into thisgreat adventure.

We are excited that through the partnership of several churches that four residents have completed a churchplanting residency experience and three more are in the middle of their two-year experiences.

Phase Three: 10% Multiplication RateEvery year one out of ten churches is planting a church.

We look forward to seeing how God will continue to use the EFCA to advance His kingdom to the ends of theworld through church planting.

This past July I was asked to preach at Faith Church with the subject of Disappointment and how thePsalmist in Psalm 71 gives us some of God’s Appointments in our lives so that our “expectations, wrong motives, limited perception, mistaken priorities and false reliance” would not disappoint usfrom God’s perfect will! The Psalmist ends with, “My lips will shout for joy…I, whom have beenredeemed. My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long,” (Psa. 71:23-24)

We celebrate our second year, Iglesia de Fe, a church-within- a church model, with Faith Church inIndianapolis on May 7, 2017. We had over 50 in attendance and 65 for the luncheon that followed withseveral of our Faith Church family joining us! We had wonderful praises from our people giving testimony ofwhat God had done, is doing and wants to do in the future. In the middle of many of our Venezuelan familiesgoing through a difficult time with all the tragedy that is taken place in their country, they come and manyvisitors are coming to seek “God’s Appointment” in their lives! At present I am pastoring this church andseeking funds for the future to hire a Hispanic pastor!

Disappointment or God’s appointments in some church plants this year?? Resting in God’s Sovereign plan forConnection Church in Franklin, IN. , pastor Gary Walker; and Village Life Church in Broad Ripple, IN. ,Pastor Don Beachy. Connection church has chosen to join another church plant in the Franklin area. PastorDon is evaluating at this time God’s Appointment for His life and future ministry. Village church is not meeting.

Pastor Tony and Nancy at Connection Church in Greenwood, are still gathering and their numbers areslowly growing. They have a variety of Sunday gatherings, each Sunday with different focus to reach theircommunity!. Pray for Tony and Nancy as they both work to meet their needs!

I have been a part of our Hispanic ministry in our district with Ricardo Palmarin and are looking forward to LuisPalau coming in October for an evangelistic crusade. We are praying about a possible Hispanic church plant inthe Goshen area! We need Hispanic pastors to reach the Latino people coming to our country, especially fromVenezuela.

In the Indianapolis area, we have had several of our large Evangelical churches, plant several churches(8) injust this past year! But, should we seek planting churches in Indianapolis or the surrounding communities?Join me in praying and seeking where to plants churches.

It’s a joy serving with Bret Gleason, my church planting encourager. And Bob Blahnik, our districtSuperintendent, who checks on me! Ha! I do miss Chuck Warren, a choice servant.

Disappointment, yeah, my thing! God’s Appointment, His glorious, gracious plan! Amen!

With joy and appreciation in serving with others in the GLD,

Report of the Director of Hispanic Ministries

GLD Annual Conference

Rev. Ricardo Palmerín

Our GLD Hispanic pastors and churches started this 2017 facing the inevitable reality that we are living timesof a reemerged political, racial, and civil divisions in our communities, cities, and nation. The threat to dividefamilies enforcing the immigration law under extremist anti-immigrant voices has impacted the life dynamic ofour Latino immigrant community. A number of families in our Hispanic churches are not exempt of that threat. However, instead of fear and uncertainty before the current social issues, our GLD Hispanic pastors, leadersand churches decide to affirm the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the answer of God for our families and neighbordsbefore the speech of hate and division in our midst.

The Hispanic Leadership Team has served to our GLD Hispanic pastors, planters, leaders and congregationsreinforcing our EFCA/GLD mission and vision of glorifying God by the transformation and multiplication ofdisciples and churches among all people by preaching the Gospel and extending the Kingdom while facing thecurrent social issues trends with prayer, faith, love and practical care to our children and families inside andoutside the church.

EFCA One Conference 2017, GATEWAY 10th Anniversary

Some of our GLD Hispanic pastors attended the EFCA One Conference at the Austin Oaks EFC in Austin, TX.Part of the conference was to celebrate the ten years of training ministry of EFCA GATEWAY theologicalInstitute. GATEWAY started its second site ten years ago in Spanish languange in the GLD to equip layHispanic pastors and planters to be credentialed with the EFCA. Pastors Carlos Guadagno, Osvaldo Silveira, and Ricardo Palmerin were the facilitators for the first generation of GATEWAY GLD pastors and planters thatgraduated from the full four year curriculum. Today most of our GLD Hispanic pastors are EFCA credentialedor ordained. GATEWAY has currently 134 sites in Spanish and English language among all the EFCA districtsand 1155 pastors, planters, and leaders have taken GATEWAY courses during the last years. We praise theLord for it!

Equipping Hispanic Pastors and Churches

Summer Evangelism SeminarThe GLD HLT in partnership with TEDS staff and the Luis Palau Association coordinated a seminar onevangelism at the TIU campus on August 19th. Dr. Carlos Barbieri, a member of Luis Palau team was theexpositor of this training to equip to our GLD Hispanic pastors and leaders in personal and corporateevangelism and discipleship under the “Andrew and Ananias Plan.” Hundred and seventy participants receivedthis training and went back to their local churches to share the biblical principles and tools to activate this oikosevangelism in their communities. This seminar was also a preparation to mobilize our GLD Hispaniccongregations for the evangelistic crusade with Dr. Luis Palau on October 1st, 2017.

Fall Evangelistic Event with Dr. Luis PalauTEDS in partnership with EFCA GLD invited Dr. Luis Palau to speak a word of hope from the Gospel to theLatino community at an evangelistic event in Spanish language by October 1st, 2017. This event has beencoordinated by HLT with TEDS and Luis Palau Association staff. Our GLD Latino churches and members areinterceding for their neighbors, investing time in them, and inviting them to have an encounter with Christ, toparticipate in the local church life, and to attend to the “Night of Hope” crusade with Dr. Luis Palau. The eventis opening to the participation of the evangelical community in the North Chicago and neighborhoods near ofTIU campus in Deerfield, IL. Dr. Luis Palau will be preaching the salvation message of Jesus Christ to anestimated audience of one thousand attendees. Trained members of our churches will be connecting andpraying with those who respond to Gospel message and our GLD Hispanic local churches will make a followup with those contacted in the event.

Churches in TransitionTwo of our dearest Hispanic pastors Gerson Amaya and Celso Merlos passed to the Lord lastDecember/January after months of illness. The HLT mourned with the relatives their loss but celebrated withtheir churches of Filadelfia in Franklin Park and Salem in Chicago for the life and ministry of those two faithfulservants of the Lord. The HLT has supplied the pulpit in both churches and helped their leadership boardssearching and electing candidates to the pastor position. Filadelfia church has invited to Jonathan Pierson tobe their part time pastor, and Salem church continues the search for a pastor. The church plant that pastorGerson Amaya was leading in Wheeling, IL also is a transition under the HLT supervision with Pedro Teran asthe part time interim pastor.

Connections and ResourcesThe HLT and GLD Hispanic pastors met several occasions with TEDS faculty and TIU students to have a timeprayer and planning for the summer training and the evangelistic event with Luis Palau by the fall. The HLTmeets monthly to plan, follow up and prayer for the GLD Hispanic ministries, to keep our pastors and plantersinformed or the last updates regarding with the immigration law and other important social issues that ourchurch families need to be aware. The HLT coordinates actions with our EFCA GATEWAY Bible Institute tooffer their courses to our local church leadership too. A new GATEWAY site was open at Salem EFC inChicago and we plan to open two other sites by in the GLD in Spanish by Winter 2018.

Partnership with the Hispanic Churches, Plants, and Ministries

The Hispanic Leadership Team pastors Pedro Teran, Carlos Guadagno, Roberto Cambrany and RicardoPalmerín, celebrate the provision of the Lord in ministry resources to extend His kingdom in the middle of timesof transition in our society, communities, and local churches. Report of the GLD Church Consultant

GLD Annual Conference

Rev. Knute Larson

I am grateful to be connected with this good district group of churches and pastors and the district staff.

Coaching: I arrange with a pastor who requests my input for a six-month long assessment and giving

advice and experience on the case studies of the pastor’s choice. Usually there are eight at a time doing

this and it involves a monthly hour meeting and as many email or phone touches as they wish. About half

usually are E Free churches. I always cover seven “Major Concerns,” which is available for study.

Encouraged and had a small part in bringing an Indiana church to seek membership in EFCA. That is

progressing.

Other calls were one-time requests from pastors about a situation or pain.

Preaching-speaking: Several retreats have been with churches in our district and the main preaching

was the whole year until the April arrival of the new pastor at Liberty Bible Church, a strong E Free church

in Chesterton.

GLD Staff: I attended all the quarterly meetings with our district leader, Rick Thompson, and staff, and

always feel free to contribute suggestions. This is a good team. I wish more churches called on any of us

more.

Sermon workshops: Did only one this year, five sermons on “The Five Solas” for this October’s

celebration and explanation of anniversary 500 of the Reformation of the church and the official beginning

of Protestantism. About 23 attended the workshops, and the notes -- about 17 pages for each sermon --

are still available by request. Pastor Steve Hjelle did a great job on the church views before and after the

reforming, and those pages are included.

Website -- pastorknutelarson.com: There are many notes and suggestions here on about 13 categories

of pastoring and church life, and all are freely downloadable. The updated “The ABF Book” is also there,

with a new last chapter about home groups and DAG (Discipleship-Accountability Group, which I urge all

pastors to have).

Mr. Brian Ogne

Helping to fund the future of our Great Lakes District EFC churches and our Affiliate Ministries and the District offices ismy privilege and opportunity. Challenging people to give generously to God’s work is my objective.

It has been my privilege to work with 3-4 of the affiliate ministries of the Great Lakes District during this past year:A. I worked on the planning and development of the Lydia Home 100

thAnniversary. It began in 1917 with a family of six

girls and one boy in Chicago with a mother who died of scarlet fever and a dad not knowing where to turn for help. The Salem Evangelical Free Church stepped in and began Lydia Home in their home. It has progressed through thelast 100 years to a number of homes and then the main center on Irving Park Avenue. They have developed awonderful ministry outreach reaching hundreds of children with the gospel message and beginning a new programrecently called Safe Families. I had the privilege of working with Doris Bauer, former Executive Director for 25 years,to work with the Lydia Home development team and create a reunion celebration of many of the former Boardmembers, staff, and volunteers of the past 50 years. We had a wonderful celebration with over 200 attending on May20

th. We rekindled many interests and the follow-up for their major Anniversary Celebration which will be on Thursday

night, October 19th

in Chicago.

B. I have had the privilege of working with Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center for the last number of years in helpingthem in their development of brochures, literature, and funding for their wonderful ministry to seniors in Rockford,Illinois. In 2018, they will celebrate their 50

thAnniversary and I will be helping them create an exciting and wonderful

celebration of the heritage, history, and future of our Great Lakes District Evangelical Free Church home for senioradults.

C. I have been active in helping Dr. Bob Moeller, Executive Director of For Better, For Worse, For Keeps Ministries in theChicagoland area, in developing a support team that will help fund his wonderful ministry of radio, TV, seminars, andmajor consulting of intercity couples struggling in their marriage commitment. He has had an 80% success ratio theselast years in counseling these couples. Praise God!

D. I’ve been working with a number of Evangelical Free Churches in helping to plan their Capital Campaigns. Currently Iam working with Pastor Dave Klipp from the Antioch Church in Indiana for a daylong Elder Board seminar on thecontinuation of their Capital Campaign plans for their church development funding.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Generosity is one of the most overlooked topics in Christian churches because talking about money makes peopleuncomfortable but the scripture is clear, how we use our possessions can have a lasting impact on our spiritual growth. We are all called to be servants, not hoarders, of what is given to us-time, money, possessions, and to use these thingsfor God’s glory.

I believe it’s important to challenge our congregations and para-church affiliate ministries to give generously to God’swork. Below are seven secret keys that can unlock the door of biblical faith in this area of people’s lives:1. Give Reverently-Deuteronomy 14:232. Give Systematically-Genesis 28:16-22, Proverbs 3:9-113. Give Expectantly-I Kings 17, Haggai 1:4-114. Give Cheerfully-II Corinthians 9:2, Leviticus 22:17-185. Give Accordingly-I Corinthians 16:26. Give Eternally-III John 8, I Samuel 30:227. Give Faithfully-I Corinthians 4:2

Let me also challenge you to understand why people do give and why they do not give. Why do people give?1. They believe in the ministry, in the mission.2. They have confidence in the leadership.3. They have an opportunity to become involved personally.4. Their gift is going to make a significant difference.5. There is an opportunity for the ministry to impact members of their family.6. They have a personal relationship with people in the ministry.

Why do they not give?1. Out of guilt. Guilt is not a motivator.2. The attractiveness of a brochure. We want to have attractive brochures, but that is not a high motivator for giving.3. In order to save taxes. They are interested in saving taxes but we don’t approach them with that as a motivator for

giving.

Report of the Director of Development

GLD Annual Conference

4. No point of connection, identification, or ownership with the ministry or the particular project.

Here is another reason why people give. The nine motivating factors…1. Passion-They give because they believe in the cause.2. Affiliation-They give because they belong to the group.3. Tradition-They give because they have a history of giving.4. Recognition-They give because they want to be known.5. Inspiration-They give because they are captured by the project or the presenter.6. Obligation-They give because it is the dutiful or expected thing to do.7. Transformation-They give because they want to make a difference.8. Invitation-They give because they are invited or asked to give.9. Completion-They give because they are fulfilling a commitment.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It’s my opportunity and responsibility to encourage our EFC churches, affiliates, and its members to pray, participate, andfinancially support the Great Lakes District ministry opportunities as described in the GLD Fair Share District reportbrochure.

My desire is to challenge people to give generously. Asking for and giving money are natural processes and need not tobe viewed as something to be avoided. People give money for four reasons:

1. People give money because they want to.2. People don’t give unless they are asked.3. People give money to people.4. People give money to success not to distress.

Our focus as a District staff is to glorify God by multiplying healthy churches among all people. It is a pleasure to partnerwith you in the ministry that has been trusted to us by our Lord. Please consider a special gift to the GLD.

Report of the Director of Ministry to Women

GLD Annual Conference

Mrs. Gloria Grell

I am thankful to the Lord for the privilege of serving the Leaders of Ministry to Women in the Great LakesDistrict. I thank Him for what He is doing through the Ministry to Women in the churches in our district. It is ajoy to hear of women coming to Christ, women beginning to disciple other women, women writing and teachingBible studies for the first time, and women serving their community. Highlights from the last year include thefollowing.

Encouraging and Equipping Women through God's Word –This year I have had the privilege of sharing God's Word at four women's retreats and at the TheologicalConference for Women at Trinity International University.

Equipping Leaders of Ministry to Women –Friday, March 17th, I hosted an equipping day, "ReNew and ReTool," at TIU for GLD Leaders of Ministry toWomen and their teams. Sixty-six women attended representing twenty churches from the GLD and twochurches outside the GLD. The three topics covered were "ReNewing Women to Be Biblical Thinkers,""ReTooling Women for Leadership," and "ReTooling Women for Disciplemaking and Mentoring."

April 1 – Working with Dr. Pam MacRae of Moody Bible Institute, we hosted "Called," a one-day trainingconference at Moody for women in ministry leadership. We had several Leaders of Ministry to Women fromGLD churches attend.

Over the course of the year I have met with leaders to help them set direction for their ministry, to help themprocess ministry challenges, to help them think through theological concerns, to review Bible study material, and to review other curriculum.

Resources – I continually look for and review potential resources for Leaders of Ministry to Women. This year Ihave focused on resources to equip women theologically; to equip women to study Scripture; to equip womento make disciples; and to encourage women to pray.

Care for Pastors' Wives –Under the leadership of Jan Thompson, I seek to provide care for the senior pastors' wives in the NorthernIllinois Region of the GLD, the region for which my husband, Daniel, is the Regional Superintendent.

Report of the Executive Commission

GLD Annual Conference

Mr. Carlan Bounds

The Executive Commission purpose is to develop new initiatives, policies, and procedures interacting with theDistrict Superintendent on new developments and encouraging him and his Staff in pursuing the ministry of theGreat Lakes District. It is also the personnel committee for the District.

In conjunction with the Finance Commission the Executive commission monitors the financial status of the GLD.One special highlight in our financial area are the financial rebates from Brotherhood Mutual and we thank them fortheir gift this past year. It is heartwarming to note they are partners with us in ministry.

We are thankful for the work our Superintendent, Rick Thompson, has done in developing the 2017 conference andhis work already in preparation and planning for the 2018 conference. Conference planning is a project with manydetailed tasks consisting of contacting speakers to facility logistics, etc., and once again thank Rick for his work inthis preparation, and his staff that assist in this endeavor.

We thank Phil Bubar and the nominations committee for their diligent work on completing the selection ofcandidates for the respective board vacancies shown on the 2017 ballot for our 2018 board. This committee beginsits work in May of each year and is completed when the ballot is finalized.

This commission sometimes has to deal with sad situations and this past January, the doors were closed for the lasttime at Glen Hill EFC in East Peoria, IL. The closing of Glen Hill brought the property and other assets, as well as amortgage, under the control of the district. This commission, along with staff support, started working on selling theproperty. In selling this property, the charter was to satisfy the debts and allow for proceeds to be moved into thedistrict accounts with plans to move to 'rebuild' or 'restart' in another location in the Peoria area. This was allcompleted by early June. Throughout this nearly six month project, there were many, many ways God showed Hishand in the steps that needed to be dealt with. There are just so many stories from this that are heartwarming andsigns from God that He was blessing this challenge. One special blessing was having our good friend and formerboard member, Ken Eichelberger, work with us on the many Real Estate requirements and steps for this sale.

As plans and details develop for this Peoria replant project the commission and staff will seek God's direction toinvest these funds in this work. We would covet your prayers for God's plan to reveal direction and guidance asRick and our staff develop this vision for a new church.

There are many items of business that come to this commission, and none more rewarding than hearing how Godis moving in this, His District. The greatest joy is seeing God reveal His plan and orchestrate the logistics for HisGlory in the Great Lakes District. We rejoice in being a part of His service.

The work this commission does could not be effective without the great support from Rick Thompson and all of theGLD staff. We are thankful too, for Amanda Bruney and her excellent work in support of this commission, as wellas our annual conference, and the GLD.

The members of this commission are shown below; please convey to them a Heartfelt Thank You! for their serviceon this commission.

Report of the Finance Commission

GLD Annual Conference

Mr. Larry Seawell

Your staff and board continue to work hard in service to the churches that comprise the GLD. We are thankfulfor the prayer and financial support of member churches. God has been gracious! This year we are seeing a3.4% increase in giving from member churches but we are still 4.7% below budget in giving from memberchurches through June 30, 2017. Earlier this year we received $15,000 from our partnership with BrotherhoodMutual and $67,912 in dissolution proceeds allocated to the General Fund from the sale of a church property. While the total revenue is above budget, we are carefully tracking church giving which is below budget. Weremain dependent on member churches as we plan ministry activities and we thank you for continuing supportof the GLD. Our goal is continuous improvement in the support we offer to each church.

We are pleased to report that as of June 30, 2017 (six months) the General Fund balance for unrestrictedministry was $98,033 and we hold $52,007 in our reserve account. These balances reflect previous staffingchanges, careful expense management by your staff, partial proceeds from the sale of a former church siteand the receipt of the Brotherhood Mutual dividend.

Total YTD Revenues $308,348 (58.3% of annual budget)Total YTD Expenses $260,445 (49.3% of annual budget)

Fair Share contributions from churches continue to comprise the majority of the General Fund revenues, totaling $221,397. This compares unfavorably with the $225,356 received through June 30, 2015, butfavorably with $214,053 received through June 30, 2016. The GLD has a healthy unrestricted cash balanceand is carefully managing expense against revenue, but it is important to note that without the BrotherhoodMutual dividend and church dissolution proceeds the GLD would have been in the red for the first half of theyear.

We strongly encourage each church to participate in Fair Share giving to support the GLD. Not all churchescan give at the recommended 1.25% of their annual budget, however many churches increase the amount thatthey give each year with the goal of reaching 1.25% over a few years. The commitment by healthy churches tosupport the GLD enables us to support every church regardless of different financial seasons that they mayface. Thanks for your sacrificial service to all churches through supporting the district!

In the coming year the GLD will again be looking for ways to better serve our member churches. Theproposed 2018 budget supports continued initiatives to further strengthen the regional ministries through ourregional and area superintendents. This includes a significant restructuring in Greater Chicago and Michigan. We are looking forward to relevant conferences as well as supporting churches with resources appropriate totheir size and ministries.

In addition to our core services for member churches, we also continue to actively support the church plantingprogram in the GLD. Our team helps to drive the church planting initiatives of individual churches and alsoacts on behalf of all of the churches within the GLD to establish new churches. As of June 30, 2017, the GLD’sUnrestricted Church Planting Fund balance was $114,697.

We continue to praise God for the faithfulness of our membership in supporting the GLD as it serves all of thechurches within our geographic boundaries. Please feel free to contact a member of the GLD board or staff(you can find us all on the GLD website at www.gld-efca.org) to receive an explanation of how your financialsupport is used. We would also be happy to make a presentation to your church’s staff and leadership boardand answer any questions that you may have about the GLD.

Report of the Pastoral Care Commission

GLD Annual Conference

Mr. Phil Hughes

The Pastoral Care Commission of the Great Lakes District existsFor the purpose of encouraging pastoral growth in order to

Assist healthy pastor/church relationships.

Our goal is to encourage pastoral integrity, maturity and accountability, encourage professional growth and

development and periodically inform pastors and churches of important ministry tools which might be used to enhance

the work of the church and its pastoral staff. In times of financial hardship for a pastoral staff member and family of the

GLD, we are asked to supervise the dispensing of benevolent funds.

We are also called upon at times to intervene in matters related to the discipline and/or restoration of a pastoralstaff member of a GLD church or to interview individuals who have applied for a Divorce Request for Exception7 with the Board of Ministerial Standing. The holding of a ministry credential with the Evangelical Free Churchof America is a privileged responsibility that the Pastoral Care Commission is committed to protect.

As members of the Pastoral Care Commission we are continually reminded of the spiritual battle fought bythose in ministry and the pain and hurt that is caused by sin. But we are also encouraged as we see the graceof God restore threatened relationships and we rejoice in the knowledge that many in ministry continue tochoose the road of faithful obedience.

Dear GLD Family:

Greetings from Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center in Rockford, Illinois. It is our hope and prayer that yourannual conference will be a blessing to the ministry staff and lay delegates in attendance. Praise the Lord forGod working through transformational churches!

We were blessed in 2016 with continued good occupancy in our overall continuum of living and care. Specialdedications in 2016 we held to celebrate wonderful new improvements to our facilities. They are:

A main entry portico for inclement weather protection

Inspiration Park and the Golden Eagle Gazebo for fellowship and reflection

A black, granite stone with an etched tribute to Fairhaven’s veterans who served to preserve and protectAmerica’s freedom

The Fairhaven Board authorized an improvement project called “First Impressions” to redefine both the MainEntrance and Health Center Entrance areas that will include new décor. In 2018, we will celebrate 50 years ofproviding service to our residents. This project, which began midsummer, is well under way, and it is our hopeto be finished by Thanksgiving of 2017.

We will be sending out a schedule of events planned in 2018 to celebrate our 50th anniversary to all GLDchurches and pastors. The GLD formed a “Home for the Aged” committee in 1960 at the urging of GeorgeHedberg and Rev. Wallace Johnson of Elim Free in Oak Lawn, IL. This committee came up with the plan tobuild a “Fairhaven” which was adopted by the district four years later. Four more years passed leading to theopening of Fairhaven at its current location in Rockford, IL in 1968.

Please consider stopping in to visit Fairhaven if you are in the Northern Illinois area or visit our website atwww.fairhaven.cc. We have some wonderful resident testimonies online that have been helpful for individualsand families who may be considering community living.

Sincerely,

Thomas BleedExecutive DirectorFairhaven Christian Retirement Centerwww.fairhaven.cc

Greetings from FIT Moms! We have had a very exciting year at our organization, and have very much enjoyedseeing God’s hand at work in His ministry at FIT Moms. After 29 years, we have finally rented and moved in toour own building! We are very excited about this! Although we have loved meeting at the churches who havegraciously supported us, we finally have the visibility in the Waukegan community that we’ve wanted for solong. In addition, in February, we were the recipients of a financial award from an organization calledCommunity Purse. This helped with some of our new expenses as well as to keep things running smoothlyduring our transition. Our weekly classes this year consisted of Life Skills, and Anger Management, whichalways ended with a 30 minute Bible Study. We have witnessed God softening the hearts of our moms andtheir kids this year. This summer, about 12 children were able to attend summer camp! The younger ones wentto day camp, while several of the older children attended week-long camp at Lake Geneva Youth Camp. Theyhave reported back to us that it was a wonderful experience! Other new changes include that we have broughton a new Program Administrator. She has been working diligently on starting a pre-teen group (as apreventative to teen pregnancy) which will hopefully begin this fall! We are very excited to begin a new year atFIT Moms this September. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for this ministry. His faithfulnessand provision is amazing, and we are so honored to serve in this ministry.

TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY is a private, Christian university thatincludes Trinity College, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS), TrinityGraduate School, and Trinity Law School. The University is affiliated withthe Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA).

Trinity’s seeks to educate men and women to engage in God's redemptivework in the world by cultivating academic excellence, Christian faithfulness, and lifelong learning.

The following are a few highlights of the past year:

Trinity / EFCA bylaw changes passed unanimously at EFCA One in Austin, Texas. The changes clarifyresponsibilities of the EFCA Board of Directors and the Trinity Board of Regents, and specify theconfiguration of the Trinity board.

More than half of the 125 initiatives in the Trinity 2023 Strategic Plan are completed or making progresstoward completion.

Trinity completed its second-largest giving year in history, with an increase in net assets of $8.2 million.

Received the Timber-lee property in Wisconsin as a gift, with exploration underway of newopportunities related to that ministry.

A second consecutive headcount enrollment increase (from 2,686 to 2,692 to 2,710) registered in fall2016. Early indications are positive for a third straight annual headcount increase this fall.

Evidence of increasing and more effective retention efforts: spring graduating class numbers 500, upfrom 380 the previous year.

National recognitions included rankings in Washington Monthly, U.S. News & World Report, and

President's Honor Roll for Community Service

Men's basketball team shared a conference title and finished 30-6, marking the biggest improvement inwins and losses during the past five years in a U.S. college basketball program at any level.

Faculty publications continue at the highest levels of quantity and quality. Among many examples,TEDS Professor Kevin Vanhoozer won the CT Book Award for theology/ethics. It is the fourthconsecutive year a Trinity professor has won a CT Book Award.

Korea DMin program in Seoul continues to expand. It is the first TEDS program taught in the Koreanlanguage.

The new TEDS MDiv program takes full effect in fall 2017. The revision allows students to go deeperinto academic areas where they have interests, with fewer introductory courses.

Fall 2016, Trinity begins an undergraduate program in Biblical Studies at Waupun CorrectionalInstitution in the Wisconsin prison system. The privately funded program follows examples set withother seminaries in Louisiana and Texas.

A Trinity College faculty development initiative has launched, under the leadership of AssociateProfessor of Education Laurie Mathias.

New programs begin in fall 2016 for undergraduates in criminal justice and computer science.

Discipline-specific accreditations achieved for mental health counseling and athletic training.

Trinity now offers nine degree programs completely online within TEDS, Trinity College, and Trinity LawSchool. A graduate certificate program in Christian studies also is fully online.
