LITURGY OF THE WORD True humility requires that we acknowledge our weaknesses, our imperfections, our humanness. We are not more important than our neighbor. Sirach offers this as a lesson to guide the listener. Jesus tries to teach this to the Pharisees in the Gospel we hear today. Humility begets generosity, as it recognizes the value in our neighbor, especially those who are put down. True generosity is shown when giving to those who cannot repay.

THANK YOU For your gifts to our Parishes.

The Wine and Hosts at St. Stanislaus Kostka

are offered this week in memory of

Joan Giangrande Requested by

Hank & Fran Meyerhoeffer

Today, we hear Jesus say to us, “…when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and

the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” With love for your neighbors who are poor, crippled, lame or blind when you give your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are realizing that in giving you indeed receive.

Every member of our faith fami-ly is urged to support the life-changing work and ministries of our Diocese...Please make your donation/pledge today by check or online...We can reach our

goals if all families participate. Every gift helps! If 4949 more families pledge $54 each at Transfiguration and If 100100 more families pledge $115 each at St. Stanislaus Kostka, ...then we can meet our goals!

($28,843 for St. Stans and $19,186 for Trans)

we hope ALL families in our parishes will join them…

Donations made over our goals are returned to our parishes; the amount we fall short of our goals become our parishes’ financial burden due at the end of the year. Please visit our website to make a pledge/gift or use the Appeal envelope in church.

TWENTYSECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Parish #425 page 2

As of today, we are officially one parish with the name Transfiguration-St

Stanislaus Kostka (Transfiguration coming first because it is a mystery in the Lord’s life). For most of us, nothing will change. We already have one parish council, one office and office staff and have been trying to cultivate joint societies for over a year. In the weeks and months to come, there will be one bulletin and one missalette. Our records will be kept in one register for each sacrament with a notation indicating where the sacrament took place. The main change will be that the bank accounts will be merged and we will be keeping one set of books which will simplify day to day operations greatly. The merge will help secure the future of both churches as worship sites which has been a major to concern since I arrived over two years ago. I ask you all to pray for the success of this new chapter in the history of our Parish and to work together to ensure our future.

Jesus Our Hope Library open every Sunday 10:45am—1:45pm

Please pray for our Parishioners, Family Members & Friends who are ill and those on our Tree of Life.

TRANSFIGURATION-SAINT STANISLAUS KOSTKA R.C. CHURCH, MASPETH

Parish #425 page 3 Please remember Transfiguration and/or St. Stanislaus Kostka in your will.

Dr. Allen Hunt was born into a Methodist family with a long line of pastors. Despite not intending to go into “the family business”, Dr. Hunt did in fact end up becoming a Methodist minister. While leading an evangelical mega-church (serving more than 15,000 people each week), Allen R. Hunt began a remark-able journey that culminated in his conver-sion to Catholicism. He now serves as the senior advisor at Dynamic Catholic and is a nationally known Catholic communicator, Bible teacher, and best-selling author, and until 2013, was the host of “The Allen Hunt Show”, a syndicated radio talk show that focused on issues of faith and morality.

Allen and his wife, Anita, have two grown married daughters and four grandsons. Allen’s home parish is in McDonough, Georgia.
