Teach your children well
From the principal Hi everyone. Term 3 already! We have had a wonderful
start to the term with students looking great and settled
back into work from the first minute!
Early Action for Success (EAfS) – Update
Kim McCardle, our EAfS leader has given us a further
update into EAfS so that parents and caregivers are kept
fully informed about WHAT this program is and how very
special it is for our school.
“Trangie Central School is excited to be included in this
program from Term 2 2014 for 3 years.
The focus of EAfS is on the early years of schooling –
Kindergarten to Year 2, with resources targeted to deliver
the greatest educational impact by explicitly assessing the
learning needs of students in Literacy and Numeracy, and
using on-going assessment to plan, teach and personalise
learning and monitor student progress.
Teachers are supported in the program with professional
development, learning a range of strategies particularly for
students needing particular support.
The specific programs, TEN and L3 (as outlined in Week 6
newsletter) are being implemented at TCS to deliver high
quality and effective learning experiences for our students.
Further insights into these programs will be given as the
year progresses.” K McCardle
Combined Schools Music Day
At the end of last term the T schools plus Yeoval joined
together for a wonderful day of music. The day catered for
strings, guitars and concert band and we had excellent
tuition from Justin Screen on concert band, strings with
Martin Lee and guitars with Darren Wykes. It was
Tullamore’s turn to host the day and this term we will be at
Trundle. The skills of the students are developing rapidly
and the excitement and pleasure that is gained from playing
music as a group is very hard to explain to anyone who has
not experienced it but I know that our students have found
it to be a very motivational experience. This is just the
beginning! Thanks to Amanda Kater for transport on the
day and to the Tullamore P&C for looking after the
catering so well.
Debating
There are so many opportunities for achieving success at
our school, no matter what your interest or skill. I have
been very excited to see that Debating has been added to
the list of extra-curricular offerings that are now
available. Thanks to Ms Debbie Waters’ talent and
commitment we are experiencing considerable success in
our first competition. Our team consists of Kurt Terry,
Daniel Flannery, Reed Heterick, Mal Hanley and Tim
James and after an initial loss, finding their feet, they
have not looked back since with wins against Broken
Hill and Coonabarabran already achieved and Baradine
still to come. The boys are debating largely against Year
10 students and are to be thoroughly commended for
their achievement in this very challenging competition.
Sporting Prowess
Thanks to the dedication of Miss Skinner and all the
other staff who train the different sporting teams in our
school we continue to shine in every competition that we
enter. Our students have a wide range of opportunities to
participate in the sport of their choice so congratulations
to everyone involved. Our students have been successful,
yes but just as important we have been so proud of their
sportsmanship, presentation and respectful behaviour.
They are true ambassadors for our school! Read Miss
Skinner’s report in this newsletter for all the details.
Enrolments for 2015
We are now beginning to organise our classes and
curriculum for 2015. We do take enrolments at any time
during the year and you may enrol immediately if you
wish, however if you intend to enrol your child with us
for 2015 we would appreciate notification as soon as
possible so that we can place your child appropriately to
best suit their needs.
Finally ........
My belief is that if a child is not at school then they
cannot learn. I will continue to work with families and
support them in ensuring that all children attend regularly
and so take full advantage of all the opportunities that a
good education offers. It is the best possible gift you can
give your child. We cannot do this unless we work as a
team.
Remember :
Missing school puts you behind!!! As always, my door is open. Do not hesitate to come in
and see me if you have a concern. No problem is too
hard to solve if we work together.
All the best
Anne Holden
We have something

Head Teachers’ Report
Welcome to Term 3 which will be just as busy as the last two, we’re sure. As usual there are plenty of exciting
projects happening in the Secondary that are sure to benefit all those involved.
Homework Centre
There is a proposal to run a homework centre here at Trangie Central School each Monday
afternoon in the computer room. Students will be able to complete class homework and
subject assessments during this time. They will have full access to the staff member on
duty and to the school’s computers and printers. The centre will open from
3.10pm – 4.00pm and is a fantastic initiative for our students. Please see Mr Sarswat for
more details.
Breakfast Club
Our morning Breakfast Club will begin again next Tuesday 22nd July. Students will be able to enjoy a
breakfast of toast or cereal before embarking on their daily studies. Breakfast Club opens at 8.10am and
closes at 8.30am. The venue is our Food Technology room and all students K-12 are welcome.
Mural Project
Next Monday and Tuesday our Extension Art students will be painting a Rainbow Serpent mural on the outside of
the Industrial Art Trade Training Centre. This is to coincide with the Bush Tucker Garden project and as part of the
beautification project within the school. Mr Jones has been working with these students to further enhance their
artistic abilities which has been very successful to date. We can’t wait to see the finished product.

From the Workshop…… Our students have been busy developing their skills in the Industrial Technology workshop. They have learnt how to
safely use workshop tools and machines to construct small projects such as the ‘dice’ pencil holder, spice racks,
trinket boxes, laminated wooden bowls, tool boxes and centre punches. The students are also required to
communicate project planning information effectively through written documents and simple technical drawings. As
students become more confident they are encouraged to develop their independence through the design and
production of projects of their own choice. It has been very pleasing to work with such interested and enthusiastic
students and I am looking forward to seeing the diverse range of individually inspired projects that are likely to be
produced by the end of this year.

CAREERS CORNER Careers Advisor
Skye Rush
In the Careers Room this week: Welcome back to Term 3 and second semester. The University guides have been flowing through my office giving
students an excellent opportunity to check out possible tertiary education paths post HSC. The old mantra, the more
you look, the more you will be prepared comes to mind. Exploring various career paths is a really healthy and
beneficial process and gives students more options and understanding of the vast amount of careers that are available.
Year 10 have an exciting term ahead of them as they start to think about and work towards their Work Experience
week starting on 25th August. I will be conducting a work readiness program with them over the next couple of
weeks and get them booked into work places in the area.
ATTENTION: ATTENTION:
YEAR 11 & 12 STUDENT INTERVIEWS:

PRIMARY Assistant Principals
Jacky Murtagh

Assistant Principals’ Report
Welcome back to Term 3, we hope you all enjoyed the break and we look
forward to working with you and your child/ren. This term is yet another
jam-packed term of learning, creating, understanding, moving and grooving.
This term Trangie will be hosting the Soccer Gala Day and the NARRAF/
Gobondery Athletics carnival will be held.
Lake Burrendong Excursion
Next week students from Years 3 to 5 will be
departing on a 5 day excursion to Lake Burrendong.
Families are reminded that students will need to be at
school at the Primary bus stop by no later than
8.30am.
Students have already been provided with details on
what to pack, however, we would like to remind
students that it is a good idea to pack layers of
clothing, which are clearly LABELLED with their names. We ask that students
pack layers so that when we participate in activities, if they start to get too
warm, then they can remove a layer.
It is essential that all students only pack ONE BAG of clothing as we have
limited luggage space on the coach. Students may bring a small backpack to use
on our daily activities.
We would also like students to pack a spare pair of shoes in case students shoes
are wet during activities. There are heaters in the rooms which will enable
students to dry any wet shoes out.
The schedule for Lake Burrendong is comprehensive and varied, and we expect
to return some very tired children (and teachers!) by the end of next week.
Some of the planned activities include grass skiing, canoeing, rock climbing and
orienteering.
Premier’s Spelling Bee 2014 List
This week students from Years 3 to 6 have been sent home with the 2014
Premier’s Spelling Bee list.
The Premier’s Spelling Bee has been running since 2004 and is a fun and
educational way for primary aged students to engage in spelling.
The program includes activities to encourage all students to engage with
spelling and to promote improved literacy in combination with the K-6 English
Syllabus.
We encourage families to support their children by testing them at home and by
reminding students to practice their list by Look, Say, Cover, Write, and Check.
Any word from the list can be chosen during the competition and we hope that
all students have a go and have some fun while doing it.
We plan on holding our spelling bee during Week 7,
however, we will confirm this closer to the date.
Regional finals will be conducted between Monday
8th September and Friday 19th September (Weeks 9-
10), these usually take place in Dubbo.
The winner of each division from each regional final
progresses to the State Final. The State Final will be
held in Sydney on the 5th November at the Eugene
Goossens Hall, ABC Centre, Ultimo.
4 Kids
Winter Essentials
With the cold weather on our
doorstep, it’s time to live well
and stay healthy through winter.
Here are a few tips to help you
and your children stay as healthy
as possible:
1.Get a move on- Head for the
outdoors even when it is chilly.
Rug up and go for a walk.
2.Scrub up-You will never
avoid/ kill every germ, but it’s
important to maintain good
hygiene to help minimise colds
and flu’s. Hands should be
washed before eating or touching
food, after using the toilet,
blowing noses or coughing,
touching pets, after playing
outside and after visiting anyone
who is unwell.
3.Sick, not tired- Sometimes it’s
hard to avoid a cold. A sick child
will lose their appetite, but make
sure they drink plenty of fluids
and seek medical advice if they
don’t respond to paracetamol,
look pale, are sleepy and
complain of an intense headache.
4) Sleep on it- Sleep helps us to
rest and recover, and restores
physical and mental health.
School aged children (5-12yo)
need 9-11 hours of sleep a night.

BIKE SAFETY WEEK
During the last week of Term 2, Primary students were invited to bring their bikes to school to participate in learning
activities focusing on “Bike Safety”.
Students watched videos on bike safety and fitting helmets properly, followed by a discussion. Students were also
tested on their riding skills as they rode through a course designed to test their ability to manoeuvre their bikes,
braking, looking for obstacles and indicating direction. All students listened carefully and were awarded their bike
licence. Well done!
Unfortunately, our guest presenter who had been booked to attend had to re-schedule due to a family emergency.
However, it has been confirmed that he will be attending our school, most likely during Education Week, to speak
with our students. Watch this space as we will update you as soon as the new date and time has been approved and
confirmed.

STUDENT VOICE Members
Sophia, Kamaliyah, Matilda, Annalee,
Xanthe, Kai, Tegan, Cheyanne,
Aysha, Coby D and Rueben
We interviewed our Principal Mrs Anne Holden as part of student voice articles about teachers and teaching. Mrs Holden has told us that she has been a Principal for nearly five years and enjoys working in a small community. She likes Trangie and she has gotten to know students and their families. Mrs Holden enjoys community activities such as TAG and walking her dogs. She also enjoys music and playing the clarinet and saxophone. Mrs Holden enjoys the different things she gets to do in her job, but sometimes it is hard to
make the right choices for Trangie Central School. She was a maths teacher then a Deputy Principal at a difficult school. She wanted to be a Principal to make things happen. If she wasn’t a Principal she wanted to be a nurse. Mrs Holden has three children, two boys and one
girl and she has taught them at school. She loves
dogs as they love you no matter what you do.
ANOTHER GREAT COMBINED MUSIC DAY
At the end of last term, a group of 25 students went to Tullamore for another Combined Schools Music Day. We
had Concert band, Strings and Guitars and a great day was had by all. The students represented our school
beautifully—with exceptional behaviour and immaculate uniform. Many thanks to Amanda Kater for transport and
also to the ladies of the P & C in Tullamore who catered for us so magnificently.

SPORTS Under 16’s TOUCH FOOTBALL
29/5/14
During Term 2 our Under 16 girls and boys touch football team travelled to Dubbo for the small schools competition.
This was a successful day for the students with pleasing results.
The boys won one game, drew a game and lost one, with Hamish Corcoran named as players player. The boys are
still a young team and are looking forward to another 12 months when they feel as though they will be on an even
playing field with their competitors.
The girls won 3 games, drew a game and lost two, however their position on the ladder was pleasing as the girls only
just missed the top 2 teams to go through to state. Demi Dunn was named players player and has shown great
potential which we look forward to seeing develop even more in the coming years.
Miss Jess Skinner
Under 16’s RUGBY LEAGUE
4/6/14
Reed Heterick, Kurt Terry and Tom Carter travelled to the Rugby 7s in Term Two where they teamed up with Peak
Hill. They lost their first two games against Tottenham/Tullamore and Yeoval, but finally found their feet and came
back to win their last 3 games against some tough sides, Coolah, Molong and Lake Cargelligo. The boys displayed
outstanding sportsmanship and the day was overall a great success for them. We would like to thank the Peak Hill
boys and Mr Richardson for the day and look forward to joining forces in the future.
Miss Jess Skinner
4T’s
25/6/14
Mr Sarswat and I took a bus load of students from Year 7-11 to participate in the 4 T’s
Gala Day which consisted of Netball and Touch Football during the last week of Term
2. On the day our Year 7-8 students were undefeated winning all 3 games of Netball
and Touch Football. Our seniors were almost as successful, however they lost one
Touch Football game against Tullamore by a try. Congratulations go out to Alex Bar-
clay, Olivia Hilder, Taylah Brown and Daniel Flannery who the teachers thought were
key players for the day. Trangie Central School took the day out winning Term Two’s
gala day and we look forward to heading to Tullamore this term for another fantastic
day of sport.

SPORTS NARRAF/GOBONDERY
Touch Footy/Netball
21/6/14
On Friday 21st June we travelled to Warren to play touch football. Our first game we won against Peak Hill A. And
our second game we lost by 13 to Narromine. Game three we tied against Peak Hill B. This was a really good game.
Our fourth game was against Tottenham and we lost by three points. Warren was a our fifth and final game and we
lost by eight points. Trangie Central School played very well and the senior boys would like to thank Xander
Cummings for playing up with the big boys. In each game we had a ‘players’ player’ and they were as follows:
Game 1- Xander Cummings, Game 2- Ben Skinner, Game 3- Andreas Gordon , Game 4- Cameron Cook and
Game 5- Logan Fraser.
Overall the boys played like true professionals. At the end of the day the senior boys voted that Xander Cummings
was the “players’ player” for the whole day. Congratulations and well done.
Thank you very much to the parents that assisted on the day with travel and support (Debbie Skinner, Carrie Fraser,
and Penny Stoneman). A huge thank you to Mark Haines for driving the bus and the enormous amount of cheering
and encouragement.
