How do we do it?Thebrochureincludesalltheopportunitiesavailabletoorganisationsandyouthworkersrangingfromhalf,oneandtwodaycoursesonspecificsubjectstolongermodularaccreditedlearningopportunities.For2011,allprogrammeshavealsoincludedadditionalinformationrelatingtotheiroverallprogrammeservicesaimedatsupportingorganisationsindevelopingtheirservices,theup-skillingofyouthworkersandthecreationofbestpracticesharingthrougheventsandseminars.

Where do we do it?Inessence,allofNYCI’strainingprovisionisavailableonanationalbasis.Wemonitorandevaluateourtrainingdeliveryonanongoingbasis,andrespondaccordinglytofeedback.WearecommittedtosupportingyouthworkacrossIrelandandonthatbasisallofourcoursesareavailableeitherondemandoratailoredbasisfororganisationstonegotiateaccordingly.

The Application ProcessAllofNYCI’scourseshaveastandardbookingformunlessspecificallystatedinthecourseinformation.

Tobookaplaceonanycourseyouneedto:

• Obtain an application form by downloading it at www.youth.ie/training, by contacting NYCI’s Training Administrator on 01-478 4122 or e-mail [email protected].

• Submit the completed application form via e-mail to [email protected], post to Training Administrator, NYCI, 3 Montague Street, Dublin 2 or fax to 01-478 3974.

Inallcases,formsmustbesubmittedtotheNYCITrainingAdministrator.Whereafeeapplies,aninvoicewillbeissuedandmustbepaidpriortoconfirmationofaparticipantsplace.Whenpaymentisreceived,writtenconfirmationofthebookingwillbeissuedalongwithanyotherrelevantinformation.

Payment PolicyCoursescanbypaidonlinebycreditcardatwww.youth.ie/trainingthroughPayPalorbycheque.ParticipantsshouldnotethataplacewillonlybeconfirmedwheretheappropriatefeehasbeenreceivedbyNYCI.

Coursenumbersarelimited,soweadvisethatpaymentbemadeatthetimeofbookingtoensurethattheplaceisconfirmed.

On Demand or Tailored TrainingNYCIalsoprovidesondemanddeliveryofanumberoftrainingcoursesalongwithprovidingspecificallytailoredcoursesonrequest.Thesecateredtrainingscanbedeliveredtoindividualorganisationsoracollectionoforganisationsatadesiredlocationanddate.Elementsofanumberofrelatedcoursescanbecombinedifdesired.Anycoursesthatareavailablebyrequestaremarked“*availableondemandortailored”.

Organisationsshouldbeawarethattheseopportunitiesareofferedonthebasisofcapacityandresources.Assuch,theymaybesubjecttoanadditionalcostdependingonanyadditionalpreparationworkinvolved.

AnyoneinterestedinexploringthisoptionshouldcontacttheNYCITrainingAdministratorwhowillco-ordinatewiththeappropriatestaffmembertoseeifitispossible.Onceatrainingcoursehasbeennegotiatedandagreed,acontractwillbeissuedwhichwillformallyconfirmthedetailsandtermsoftheagreement.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation by NYCICoursefeesandarrangementsaregenerallybasedontheminimumnumberofparticipantsinordertobeabletorunacourse.NYCIwillreservetherighttocancelanycourseshouldparticipantnumbersnotbesufficient,eithertomakethedeliverycosteffectiveortoprovideapositivelearningenvironmentandexperienceforparticipants.Inthiseventallregisteredparticipantswillbeinformedatleastfiveworkingdayspriortothecommencementdateandallpaidfeeswillberefunded.

Inrelationtowherebookingsaremadeandthefee(ifrequired)hasnotbeenpaid,NYCI,followingcontactwiththeindividual/organisation,willreservetherighttocancelanyprovisionalplaceallocatedwithoutfurtherrecourse.

Cancellation by ParticipantsWhereabookinghasbeenreceivedandconfirmedfollowingpayment,thefollowingcriteriawillapplytoensurethatanycostsbornebyNYCIarecovered.

Cancellation of On Demand or Tailored TrainingInthecaseofaspecificallyarrangedtrainingoneitheroftheseterms,therewillbenosetfeetobepaid.However,organisationsshouldnotethatinlinewiththeContractforServiceDeliverybetweentheorganisationandNYCI,anycostsincurredbyNYCIoritssub-contractedtrainerswillbepayable.ThesecostswillincludeanyliabilitiestoNYCIonvenue,accommodation,foodandrefreshments,productionofmaterials;aswellasanycontractualcostssuchastrainer’sfeesetc.

National Quality Standards Framework for Youth WorkThroughoutthebrochurethereisreferencetoNationalQualityStandardsFrameworkforYouthWorkwhichwaslaunchedinJuly2010.TheaimoftheNationalQualityStandardsFramework(NQSF)istoprovidetheestablishmentofasingle,standardisedframeworkthatwouldactasanoverarchingstructuretoensureandenhancequalityserviceprovisioninyouthwork.Aresourceisavailabletoactasasupportanddevelopmenttoolforyouthworkorganisationsandprojectswhichplacesyoungpeopleatitscore.

A National Induction Training programme for

Volunteers engaged in Youth Work Practice

AimToprovideyouthorganisationswithastandardisedframeworkandaccompanyingmaterialstosupporttheinductionprocessfornewvolunteersengagedinyouthworkpractice.

Who is it for?Thisresourcewillbeofusetostaff/volunteersinyouthorganisationswithresponsibilityfortrainingandsupportingnewvolunteers.Additionally,thisresourceoffersanopportunityforyouthorganisationstocollaborateandshareresourcesinthedeliveryoftrainingtovolunteers.

Undereachcomponent,corecontenthasbeenidentifiedandthisisfurtherdividedintocorecompetencies.Themainfocusisonlearningoutcomesforvolunteersratherthanonaprescribednumberofhoursorstandardisedtrainingcontent.

Theframeworkisnotintendedtoreplaceexistingtrainingprovisioninorganisationbuttocomplementexistingprogrammesandmaterials.Theresourceissupportedbyadatabaseofmaterialsdevisedinrelationtoeachcomponentwithintheframework,whichorganisationsmaychoosetousedirectlyoradaptaccordingtotheirownneeds.

TheArtsProgrammeoffersassistancetotheyouthartssectorthrough:• Supportingallofthoseworkinginayouthartscapacity,bethey youthworkers,artistsworkingwithyoungpeople,thosebeginning theirengagementinthesectororestablishedyoutharts practitioners.• Providinginformation,guidanceandsupporttoorganisations aimingtoengageinmeaningfulyouthartspractice.• Advocacyandstrategicpromotionofyouthartsnationallyand internationally.• Trainingopportunitiesforthoseworkingintheyouthworkand youthartssectorstoenablethemtoofferhighqualityyoutharts activitiestoyoungpeople.• AnArtistinYouthWorkResidencyScheme,whichoffersfunding fororganisationstoenableyoungpeopletoengageandworkwith professionalartiststhroughoutIreland.

on-Demand and Short-Term Training*

NYCI’s on-demand and short-term tailored training offers youth organisations the opportunity to avail of youth arts training specific to their organisational needs and context. In the past, short-term and on-demand training has been delivered in conjunction with organisations such as The Gallery of Photography, The National Association of Youth Drama and international providers including Arts Plan UK.

The Arts programme continues to work with these organisations to offer high quality short-term and on-demand training opportunities to those working in the youth work and youth arts sector.

A three day residential summer school tailored tooffer those in the youth work and youth arts sector anopportunity to cultivate existing methods and to developnew skills for arts work with young people. Offering artform area development, practical approaches & ideas forproject planning and delivery, and networking opportunitiesacross the youth arts sector, the summer school aims toprovide an intensive yet invaluable chance to bring freshideas to your youth arts practice.

NYCI’s Certificate in Youth Arts

NYCI’s Certificate in Youth Arts course is the only one of its kindin Ireland. Certified by NUI Maynooth, it provides participantswith a contextual and practice-based understanding of artspractice with young people. It provides opportunities toexperience various art forms, learn from practitioners in thefield and consider the values and methodologies underpinningarts practice with young people. It is the first opportunity manyparticipants already working in the youth arts field will have tocertify their own experiential learning.
