Project summary

EU is home to over 33 million people born outside the EU. In addition, the most recent Eurostat figures, show there are more than 17 million citizens switched their country of birth within the EU. Conflicts in the Middle East and lack of safe places for living and working are forcing more refugees to seek safety in EU. The current EU politics in practice are giving little consideration to their vulnerabilities and needs as children. Even the EU-Turkey Agreement clearly says that “due account must be paid to the situation of vulnerable groups, in particular, unaccompanied minors for whom all decisions must be in their best interests”. Still many end up without the humane treatment. Instead, they face with big cultural shock and trauma caused by obstacles to accessing education, lack of acceptance, affection, participation, language understanding and etc. We believe that this situation can be improved by developing non-formal learning methods and pedagogical approaches which will be put into practice by the youth workers who are working with young refugees on a daily basis in the refugee camps, houses and cities where the young refugees are mostly situated. Therefore in cooperation with our 10 international partners we designed the project "All Dreams Matter" Overall aim: Bringing new non- formal learning methods and pedagogical approaches for higher inclusion of young migrants and refugees. Objectives: - Raising awareness and understanding in the youth workers about the problems of young migrants and refugees. - Equipping 33 youth workers with non-formal methods, pedagogical approaches, and tools for working with young migrants and refugees. - Increasing the capacities of the participating organizations for working with young migrants and refugees. - Increasing the knowledge, understanding and motivation of the youth workers about working with young migrants and refugees. - Increasing the cooperation among the youth workers involved in working with young migrants and refugees. - Preparing new projects about decreasing the problems of the migrants and refugees. - Increasing the involvement of the young migrants and refugees in the social life - Increasing the tolerance and acceptance of the local communities for the newcomers and promoting cooperation and multiculturalism - Increasing the knowledge about the current Erasmus+ possibilities for learning and cooperation.

Mersin

Mersin is a large city and a port on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey. It is part of an interurban agglomeration – the Adana-Mersin Metropolitan Area – and lies on the western part of Çukurova, a geographical, economical, and cultural region. The city was named after the aromatic plant Myrsine (Greek: Μυρσίνη) in the family Primulaceae, a myrtle that grows in abundance in the area.
