Keenan’s little PreK lions have been hard at work this year! They have been learning letters, colors and shapes, as well as mastering those fine motor skills to help them be great at coloring and cutting! They are having a blast learning to play and playing while they learn! :)

APEX Fun Run

Friday was the APEX fun run at SCE and the weather was just perfect for this outdoor event. SCE students had a great time running laps to raise money to help their school. All the staff and parents enjoyed getting in on the fun as well. Thank you to all of the APEX team for making the fun run a success!

The MJH Leadership Academy Texas met with Officer Carney, Mrs. Gagliano, and Mrs. Larson to discuss respect and ways to make a positive impact at MJH this school year. In the upcoming weeks, they will be studying the following leadership characteristics: value, kindness, tolerance, and standing up for what is right. These remarkable 7th grade student leaders are ready to make our world a better place!

MJH honored their favorite "Boss Lady" on October 11th by wearing black. Mrs. Chapman was celebrating a very special milestone Birthday!

Oak Hills and Keenan Lions - Building Our Legacy

This past Friday, the Lions of Oak Hills and Keenan embarked on a learning experience that will benefit Lions for years to come.

With the mentorship and generosity of Huckabee Inc., the architectural firm that designed and built our beautiful schools, our Lions

collaborated, brainstormed, and drafted the plans for their new outdoor classroom. Student groups that included 4th through 8th

graders, worked with architects, designers, and project managers from Huckabee to imagine their ideal outdoor classroom. After

brainstorming all of the elements they wanted to include in their outdoor classroom, the students reviewed architectural plans and

maps of the campus to determine the perfect location. Next, their creative juices really started to flow when their ideas were

transferred onto actual drafting plans. Some of the students' ideal elements included an amphitheater, built-in coolers to hold water

bottles, a garden, stone paths and bridge walkways, giant shade pods, and of course hammocks for reading! The student

groups voted and narrowed it down to the four very best designs. Once the groups had the top four designs, the Lions gathered

again in the black box theatre to 'pitch' those design plans to everyone. At the conclusion of the student presentations, we all were

expecting to vote on one design, but Huckabee surprised us again by saying they will merge the elements from the top four designs

into one AMAZING outdoor classroom! Mr. Huckabee, and his many employees, were awed by the caliber of our students' ideas,

their ability to work well with one another, and their self-confidence to speak in front of such a large gathering of people. They were

certainly impressed with our Lions. Phase one of this incredible journey is complete. Stayed tuned for updates because as Mr.

Huckabee stated, "There is a lot more to come!"

While one group of Huckabee representatives were inside working with our students, another group was hard at work outside. With

wheelbarrows and shovels in hand, they mulched all of our flower beds and added beautiful flowers to our marquees. We are so

appreciative of all that Huckabee is doing for our campuses!

Students Score Big

By Jenna Karrer

To congratulate students who scored a five on their Advanced Placement tests, the administration team gave out Cheez-its, chocolate and yard signs on Thurs., Oct. 4.

“I am proud of my accomplishment, but I am more grateful towards my teacher because she was fantastic,” senior Joy Jones-Luce said.

While Jones-Luce said she felt well prepared for her AP Calculus test because of her great teacher, Mrs. Burks, senior Daniel Seabolt said he felt prepared as a result of his resourcefulness. Seabolt took the AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP Language Composition, and AP Physics 1.

“I was very shocked whenever I found out I got a five on all four tests,” Seabolt said. “I did feel prepared for all the tests though.”

AP allows students to take college-level classes while still in high school. At the end of each year, students take an AP test to determine if they will receive college credit. Scores are based on a scale of 1-5; five being the highest score.

“Make sure you are not learning for the test that your teacher is giving you because the end goal is not your grade at the end of the six weeks,” Jones-Luce said. “The end goal is your grade for the AP test.”

Both Jones-Luce and Seabolt agree it is important to understand material as the class progresses as well as review before the AP test.

“My advice would be take the initiative and review before the test,” Seabolt said. “Do not expect to know everything.”

Principal Brandi Hendrix said MHS has never had so many students achieve perfect scores on the AP test. One of the amazing things about attending MISD is that students who score a 3 or higher on their AP test(s) qualify for a monetary reward. In September, MHS awarded a grand total of $28,475 to students for the qualifying scores on the 2018 AP tests.

“I felt great about my accomplishment because I knew I would receive college credit, which is important to me,” senior Annabelle Snyder said.

Lone Star Elementary By: Elisa Krug

Everyone feels silly sometimes! Lone Star Kindergarteners loved making these "silly pumpkins" in art class. These students said that their favorite parts of this activity were using the paints and, of course, getting to

make these silly faces of their own.

Everyone gets cranky sometimes, and first graders at Lone Star are learning all about how to express their feelings and still be proactive, even when they feel like a

"Crankenstein"!They wrote about what makes them cranky and how to use the 7 Habits to work through

it.

What do you do for “homecoming” when you have no one “coming home”? A new high school like Lake Creek has not had a graduation yet, and for the most part only has Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. We are in a unique time period where traditions have not been formed, and everything is a “first”. That is not going to stop us though! In lieu of the traditional Homecoming week, LCHS celebrated “Forthcoming” complete with dress-up days for students, and dress-up days for our hallways. Student elected a Forthcoming Court and to top things off had a fabulous dance to conclude the festivities. Lake Creek High School is literally a campus that is forthcoming!

Lincoln Elementary had a great turnout for its first Open House. Students were excited to show their families what they have been working on in class. They also visited the library for the book fair and participated in the silent auction! (Thank you LES PTO [Symbol]) Students, families, faculty and staff are #livingtheLincolnlife!

Madeley Ranch Elementary By: Renee Sorrell

Montgomery Elementary By: Kelly Lowe

Madeley Ranch has started a new tradition this year with something they call P.R.I.D.E. patrol. Each month, the administration will honor those students that display the five pillars of Mustang P.R.I.D.E.: Positive attitude, Respect for others, Integrity, Do the right thing and Efforts towards learning. They will get a visit at their home from the P.R.I.D.E patrol, which is made up of the school's principal, assistant principal and school counselor, and each student will receive their favorite pizza, balloons, and an award plaque.

Our administration loved seeing the student’s faces as they opened the door to their homes, and they couldn't think of a better way to recognize those students who conduct themselves with outstanding behavior while in school.

The food service staff at MES is AMAZING. From breakfast, to lunch, they do it all while making sure every child is fed, loved and served with a smile. We appreciated them with a gift to say thank you. A big shout out to Malynda King for managing a fantastic cafeteria where kids don't just eat, they also enjoy this part of the day.

Second grade students are hard at work in the science lab here at MES learning all about energy while having lots of fun. They are able to see concrete changes taking place when heat, sound, or light energy is applied. Our little scientists are also becoming little writers by finishing their first published writing piece. They can't wait to have an author share, where we can showcase what wonderful

authors they are!

It was supposed to be the weekend of their lives, three days at an exclusive house party on a beautiful island. What they expect is not what they get. They arrive at the house to find that the host is not there. A storm rises outside and cuts off the phones, Internet, and the ferry that would take them back to civilization. As the storm rages, the deaths start. First, there are ten, then nine, then eight… The OHJH book club will start reading Ten by Gretchen McNeil on Tuesday, October 23. See Dr. Fick in the library for details.

4th graders recreate a book scene from The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein with straw. We love when students pull books into Maker Space.
