The mid shot clearly shows the antagonist subverting gender stereotypes, this is shown by his long hair which subverts the common ideology that males have short cut and females have long hair, although the dark colour of his costume supports the stereotype that males do not wear bright clothing and tend to be dull in their choice of colours, this can also be seen by the dull look of the setting. The makeup applied gives his skin a pale look to it, this implies he has been avoiding sunlight and outdoor activity, which subverts the archetype of a healthy hard working masculine male.

The setting seen in the background of this close up of the axe is very run down and untidy and full of discarded items, this sort of layout is stereotypical of that of a lower-working class person, and this helps the audience to infer the type of person the antagonist is.The axe shown in this close up is very rusted and shows evidence of over use, using primitive and manual tools is a task stereotypically associated with working class people. Also the flashing low key strobe lighting implies some sort of technical lighting issues which further supports this.

This mid shot shows the character from our opening, he represents a stereotypical teenager. This can be seen by his facial expression which appears to be rather arrogant and ignorant to the situation, this signifies his stereotypical teenage attitude and supports the ideology that teenagers are careless and stupid, this could also be seen from his posture, he walks quite aloof with his hands in his pockets which is the stereotypical way teenagers as said to act, this is shown as the camera tracks his walking. This idea can also be seen by his Mise En Scene, in this shot he can be seen wearing a backward cap, this is a very stereotypical teenage feature and is often featured as an icon for teens, in this case it is used as a connotation of his careless attitude and arrogance.

• His carelessness could also be inferred from the low key light filter applied, it makes the woods look quite dark and sinister and for the character to be out there is quite reckless this supports the teenage stereotypes.

• The pace of editing however juxtaposes with this aloof careless attitude, it cuts rather quickly from shot to shot hinting to the audience of the panic of the situation, this also emphasises the characters ignorance to the situation.

• The Non diagetic incidental soundtrack further exaggerates this juxtaposition.

The setting of our opening is quite overgrown and rather secluded, we chose it as due to its isolated location and atmosphere, it’s a stereotypical location for a slasher horror film. This sort of location is stereotypically a place where people would go to do something outside of public interest (e.g. hiding a body, on the run) and generally a place where people would avoid.
