Towersey Newsletter December 2018 Editorial Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone in Towersey from the Newsletter team! A special thank you to all of you who help to distribute the newsletter printed copies around the village to your friends and neighbours. We really appreciate the time that you take and the effort that you go to – you are all wonderful! I’m pretty sure that quite a few of you will be tucking into your Penn Farm turkey and enjoying your Lashlake Christmas Tree (using your discount voucher of course!) this year as well as partaking in the odd tipple at your favourite watering hole, the Three Horseshoes. You can even do your gift shopping in the village by buying a gift voucher from Phoenix Studios for one of their excellent classes. The Christmas Carol Service and Nativity at St Catherine’s is always one of the most heart- warming and wonderful events of the year – an event not to be missed! The basics of a great Christmas are all here in Towersey! combination of musical routines, interspersed with dance,

poetry, comedy (allegedly!) and even mime – but the sky is

the limit and new ideas are always welcomed!

If you’re not so keen to tread the boards, help will be

needed with staging, production and back stage too, so

come along to find out more.

Parish Council Elections – May 2019

Would you be interested in becoming a Parish Councillor for Towersey parish?

Elections will be held in May 2019

Councillors are elected on every four years. Towersey Parish has an allocation for 5 Parish Councillors on a voluntary

basis plus the Parish Clerk, who is a qualified Clerk in matters relating to Council.

In the May 2015 elections Towersey had an uncontested election as only 4 residents applied for the positions. The last

position was filled by co-option, which the Parish Councillors decide on. If more than 5 apply for the 2019 elections ALL

VOTING RESIDENTS get a chance to say who they want to represent them in the Parish….

At each TPC meeting subjects are discussed, such as Planning matters, Finance, Budgets and other local matters which

are addressed.

Application forms will be available from March 2019 to complete – you will need a proposer and seconder for your

application. All of your details will be published by SODC and will be in the public domain.

To qualify as a candidate a person must, on both the day of nomination and the day of the election, be 18 years of age

and a British or Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, or a citizen of another Member State of

the European Union. In addition, the candidate must also meet at least one of the following four qualifications, again

both on the day they are nominated and on polling day:

(a) be registered as a local government elector within the parish; or

(b) have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises during the previous

(c) his/her principal or only place of work during the previous twelve months has been in

the area of the parish1; or

(d) have resided within the parish or within 4.8 kilometres (three miles) thereof during the previous twelve months

work is utterly charming and if you know how to work a sewing machine then

this course is for you!

Jake Spicer - life & portrait drawing

In between leading the Drawing Circus, being a columnist for Artists &

Jake to come teach not one but TWO weekend classes - one on life drawing,

one on portraits. Don't miss it!

Oliver Bedeman - expressive portraits in oil

Shortlisted for the 2018 BP portrait award, Oli will be teaching students how to

bring colour, pattern and drama to their portraits on his weekend course. I've
