The SIMARIS planning tools – easy, fast, and safe planning of electric power distribution.

The innovative SIMARIS® planning tools set standards in terms of planning efficiency. They support the planning process when dimensioning electric power distribution systems, determining the equipment and systems required, and preparing tender specification texts. The product portfolio of devices and systems required, ranging from the medium-voltage switchgear to modular installation devices in the distri-bution board, is mapped. This enables you to plan your entire power distribution sys-tem from start to finish using the free-of-charge SIMARIS planning tools.

Based on the requirements specified for the power distribution system to be planned, SIMARIS design dimensions a safe solution from the wide variety of our product portfolio according to the accepted rules of good installation practice and all applicable standards (VDE, IEC). Matching components are selected auto-matically, just as short-circuit currents, load flow, voltage drop, and energy reports are calculated. When the network is con-structed, the designer has recourse to a multitude of intelligent functions, for example, separate protection of parallel cable routes in feed-in circuits or the con-sideration of functional endurance for

cables or busbar systems. The cost version of SIMARIS design professional offers design experts additional functionality, such as an automatic selectivity evaluation or the option of comparing and optimizing the power losses of all components deter-mined for reasons of energetic efficiency increase.

SIMARIS project helps you create planning documents for electric power distribution inside a building in a fast, easy, and trans-parent way, ranging from the medium-voltage switchgear to the distribution board. Based on the systems and devices determined, the space and budget require-ments can be estimated and a technical specification list can be created with a mouse click.

SIMARIS curves supports users in visualiz-ing and evaluating characteristic tripping curves, cut-off current, and let-through energy curves for low-voltage protective devices and fuses (IEC). The various set-tings on real devices can be simulated graphically using the characteristic curves. Thus, they can be adapted to the specific case of application, and then when the plants are put into operation, these set-tings can be adopted accordingly.

Air-insulated, type-tested switchgear for the primary and secondary distribution level in the medium-voltage network are compact, reliable, and operationally safe. They are type-tested in accordance with IEC 62271-200 and metal enclosed. Their modular, space-saving design means they can be used in substations and consumer substations of power supply companies and municipal utilities as well as for almost any application in industrial plants, power plants, mining, shipbuilding, traction power supply, and public buildings (e.g., skyscrapers, railroad stations, shopping centers, hospitals, and airports).

Wherever space requirements, no need for maintenance, altitude, climate, and extreme ambient condi-tions have a high impact, gas-insulated, type-tested switchgear for the primary and secondary distribu-tion levels in the medium-voltage network provide the perfect technology. Thanks to their compact de-sign, they save space and provide freedom for new functions or the compact layout of the substations.

Protection systems must respond fast, reliably, and above all properly to faults. This is the only way to protect valuable equipment reliably, ensure the utmost safety and prevent supply outages. The devices in the SIPROTEC and Reyrolle product families, which are flexible to use, allow you to control processes efficiently, protect plants reliably, and analyze faults accurately. Thus, faults can be rectified quickly.

Integrated and intelligent energy automation allows all installations to be monitored and controlled remotely in a cost-effective manner. High requirements placed on fault resistance, operational safety, real-time signal resolution, and secure remote data transmission are all met. Measuring transducers, power meters, quality and fault recorders, as well as the SICAM PQS evaluation and analysis system are available for monitoring and ensuring power quality.

Transformers transform medium voltage to the required low-voltage values for operating power con-sumers. GEAFOL transformers are flame retardant, self-extinguishing, and do not emit any toxic gases in the event of fire. Therefore, they are in use wherever distribution transformers in the immediate vicinity of people must ensure maximum safety.

These are suitable for use in extreme climates and for installation in very small spaces – both in distribu-tion networks and industrial plants. For example, the hermetically sealed system of the TUMETIC distri-bution transformers prevents the ingress of oxygen, nitrogen, or moisture into the coolant.

Electrical energy is distributed by cables or busway systems. Owing to their short-circuit strength and minimal fire load, SIVACON 8PS busway systems provide a much higher degree of safety than cables. Flexible adaptations and extensions in the event of altered use of spaces are possible during ongoing operation.

The SIVACON S8 low-voltage switchboard provides maximum safety for man and machine by means of a design verification through testing in accordance with IEC 61439-1/-2 and resistance to accidental arcs. In addition, a type-tested connection to the SIVACON 8PS busway systems is available.

The universe of switching industrial power consumers: ranging from contactors and contactor as-semblies to soft starters and even semiconductor switches for frequent switching of ohmic loads and motors. All devices are characterized by their high contact reliability and compact design as well as by particular robustness and a long service life – even under extreme ambient conditions.

We offer a broad and well-matched range of protective devices for personal, investment and plant protection. Communication-capable 3WL air circuit breakers and 3VA compact circuit breakers use standardized bus systems to transmit important information for diagnostic, fault, maintenance or cost center management to the control center.

In electrical installations which are switched on or off manually, hand-operated SENTRON switching devices perform reliably. If installations or consumers are to be controlled by means of electric signals, electronic switching devices such as 5TT4 remote control switches, 5TT4 switching relays and 5TT5 Insta contactors are used.

7KT/7KM PAC measuring instruments precisely record energy values for power feed-in, outgoing feed-ers, or individual consumers in a reproducible and reliable way. In addition, they supply important measured values for assessing the plant status and power quality.

High plant availability and minimal downtime keep costs low. 5SV8 differential current monitoring devices help recognize and rectify faults before the plant has to be shut down. The 3KC9 load transfer switch increases the reliability of supply by performing an automatic or manual switching over between two supply networks. The fact that electrical values are monitored increases plant availability and opera-tional safety.

The powermanager monitoring software monitors, processes, and archives measured values and pres-ents them in a clear and transparent way. The data is supplied by communication-capable low-voltage power distribution components such as the 7KT/7KM PAC measuring instruments or 3WL/3VA circuit breakers. The transparency of the power distribution system which is thus gained makes it possible to identify saving potential and raise the availability of power supply.

The SIMATIC powerrate for WinCC and PCS 7 software option plus device-specific module libraries provide different power management functions such as transparent visualization and archiving of consumption data, cost center allocations, or load management and low-voltage power distribution components to be integrated into systems of the process and manufacturing industry.

No matter whether small, wall-mounted or floor-mounted distribution board – ALPHA distribution boards rely on a common platform structure in various models from 160 A to 1,250 A. Their modular design provides many options for the integration of components and can be tailor-made to any require-ments according to project needs.
