TESTING SITES – MARCH VS. JUNE

By the end of March, Florida had 7 state-

supported testing sites, which had tested a

total of 20,000 people.

Today, we have 41 testing sites, and

they’ve tested more than 438,000 people.

FLORIDA PPE – MARCH VS. JUNE

FDEM was fighting for critical PPE supplies throughout March. By

early April, they had sent first responders and health care workers:

▪ 2.8 million masks

▪ 218,000 face shields

To date, FDEM has sent the following PPE to support health care

workers and first responders:

▪ More than 40 million masks

▪ More than 1.7 million face shields

▪ 3.9 million gloves

▪ 157,000 gowns

▪ More than 12.2 million gloves

EARLY ACTIONS TO PROTECT LTC RESIDENTS

▪ Early March – Provided long-term care facilities guidance

on restricting and screening visitors.

▪ March 10 – Sent a visitor screening toolkit developed in

conjunction with stakeholder groups.

▪ March 11 – Issued Emergency Order requiring

comprehensive screenings of both staff and visitors at long-

term care facilities — formalized many precautions AHCA

already asked residential providers to take.

EARLY ACTIONS TO PROTECT LTC RESIDENTS (continued)

▪ March 15 – Issued Emergency Order restricting visitation

at long-term care facilities with narrow exceptions;

required COVID-positive residents to receive two negative

tests separated by 24 hours before being readmitted to

LTC facilities.

▪ March 18 – Required staff of long-term care facilities to

implement universal use of facial masks while in the

facility and wear gloves when providing direct care to a

patient or resident.

FL LTC TESTING RULES & COVID-19 ISOLATION CENTERS

▪ April 14 – Opened first COVID-dedicated facility in Florida.

▪ May 5 – Mandated COVID-19 testing by hospitals of all

patients, regardless of symptoms, prior to discharge to long-

term care facilities.

▪ May 10 – Required mandatory facility access for infection

prevention and control; mandated staff submit to testing.

▪ June 15 – Required mandatory testing every two weeks of

ALL staff in Florida nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

PROACTIVE LTC SUPPORT & TESTING IN FLORIDA

RAPID EMERGENCY SUPPORT TEAMS (REST):

▪ Deployed to over 620 facilities to assist with infection prevention and control

VETERAN ADMINISTRATION (VA) TEAMS:

▪ Assisted at 52 long-term care facilities serving more than 6,000 patients

AMBULANCE ASSESSMENT TEAMS:

▪ Visited over 3,900 facilities to complete initial needs assessments and

performed more than 700 reassessments

MOBILE TESTING TEAMS (MMTs):

▪ Conducted testing in more than 2,680 long-term care facilities

▪ Tested more than 192,600 long-term care staff & residents
