Every year I can’t wait to judge the Australian International Design Awards. It is such a thrill to see exciting new products and ideas in a category where I might have thought whatever exists does the job rather well.

Australian design has come a long way. When we started top3 by design 15 years ago, there was not a lot. Now I can proudly report, that the second nationality of designers for Alessi is not Danish, French or German, it is AUSTRALIAN. Yet many of those awesome talented people we admire find it hard to make a living in OZ as knocks offs are rewarded rather than prosecuted under Australian law. Awesome talent right here, is held back by a few opportunist frauds, producing trashy replica landfill.

Thank you on behalf of everyone in the design community for buying less and investing in originals.

May good design give you years and sometimes generations of joy.
