The tool provides students with scaffolded support to retell a story they have read. How do you use it? During CAFÉ (information on CAFÉ is available at http://www.thedailycafe.com/public/department105.cfm ) or any independent reading time students use the graphic organizer to organize and complete a retell of the story. The graphic organizer provides a structure to support the students in understanding all of the necessary components of a retell. This form can be used as assessment for learning as students read and respond. It can also be used if students complete it independently for summative assessment. It helps students to internalize a structure for retells and guides their reading of a text by focusing on the main ideas and details of a story.
