Serving the Local Community COUNCIL SNIPPETS Vehicle speeds through the Cirencester Road traffic calming in Minchinhampton were drawn to the attention of the parish council’s March meeting. A resident who attended used the public question/participation time to highlight his concern that traffic was travelling faster since bushes and trees were recently felled near the Vosper Field. The improved visibility had meant drivers had accelerated, he believed. After discussion it was agreed to first ask the county, as highway authority, to install a box to monitor the speeds and gather data as evidence. The group behind the restoration of The Crown pub in Minchin- hampton submitted a report to the council which said an incorporated private company had now been formed and would be inviting residents to support the project via purchases of £100 shares. The council learned that both the Gloucestershire County Coun- cil’s Lengthsman’s Scheme and the Stroud District Council’s supervised working parties with Leyhill Prison were seeking tasks to be undertaken. Members suggested many potential jobs that might be completed. Council efforts are continuing to re-lease and smarten-up the Orchard Lane play area in Brimscombe. Necessary tree surgery has been identified and quotations for the work were being obtained. Cllr Pippa Schwartz, the council’s representative on the National Trust’s Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons’ Advisory Committee, relayed the news that graziers were experiencing TB problems which might lead to far fewer, or no cattle, being released this May. The deadline for a potential election to fill a vacancy on Minchin- hampton Parish Council was on April 3 rd , 2018. If by that time no call for a poll was made the council would be inviting applications from people interested in being co-opted to fill the role. Details to follow. QUIZ NIGHT BOOSTS NEW AMBERLEY P.O. SHOP PROJECT A sell-out quiz night raised over £2,500 for the Amberley Shop on the Common. The winners (pictured below) came out on top at the end of the fundraising competition and supper evening held at Amberley Parish Rooms. As reported briefly last month, volun- teers working to re-establish a community shop, PO and small café have now reached an agreement in principle with Amberley Church Council to site the project inside the church. Resident Neil Truphet, chair of the project’s steering committee, said: “The church is in a central location with good access from all parts of the village and a footpath linking with Minchinhampton Common. We are very grateful to the church council for their vision and support.” It was expected space would be dedicated at the rear of the church for the exciting initiative, Mr Truphet said. The search for premises has been ongoing since last summer. Although the Black Horse pub had generously offered the use of its outbuilding, that would only have been for a short time. Amberley Shop on the Common’s design group will now work with the church, local architects and the Diocese and Mr Truphet said: “This offer provides the community with the possibility of a secure long term future for the shop.” A critical consideration will be the continuation of the church as a place of worship and prayer throughout the week and the idea is subject to agreement on design and layout, as well as approval by the Diocese of Gloucester. The concept of locating a community shop within a church has been achieved at Yarpole near Leominister and at Beech Hill near Reading. Added Mr Truphet: “We intend to press ahead relatively quickly with the launch of the Community Benefit Society, a fund raising campaign, Diocesan approvals and fit out works so that we can open as soon as possible, ideally this summer.” THEATRE TRIP Tuesday, 1st May : a Theatre Trip has been organised to Cheltenham - The coach will leave from the Market House at 5.30 pm. Tickets are £29.00. Please contact Anne Brookes on 886210.

DOG FOULINGYet again the council isreceiving frequent complaintsfrom residents about dogfouling.

The sad thing is that it is notthe majority of dog ownerswho are so inconsideratetowards the rest of thecommunity - it is just one ortwo.

If you have a dog, please keep it ON A LEAD as you walkaround the town - there are plenty of people who are notcomfortable with dogs running freely - and please clear upany deposits that your dog may leave.

If you see someone not clearing up after their dog, pleasetake a photo and pass it on to the Parish Council who willthen instigate a prosecution; it is not only unhygienic butalso illegal.
