One of the biggest concerns of a new parent is the lack of sleep that a new baby can bring! Sleep is a core essential and when you are sleep-deprived it can have huge effects. We all need regular, good quality sleep to be able to function at our best. Without it we can feel lethargic, emotionally unbalanced and ill.

There are various ways you can help yourself to achieve a good nights sleep. You need to free your mind of any stresses where possible and one thing that can help is to write a to do list, helping you feel more organised. Caffeine, alcohol and vigorous exercise are all stimulants, so avoiding these before bed is a good idea. Setting yourself a wind down period is beneficial, try a warm milky drink, a warm bath with lavender oil or reading a book in bed, these all allow your mind to start to shut down. If you can achieve a good nights sleep regularly, you will feel refreshed, revived and able to take on the world in a much more positive way!

Often the main focus of conversations amongst parents is their baby or childs sleep - or lack of it! Whether it be a newborn with their need for night feeds and settling, a toddler that hasnt learnt to self soothe or a child that creeps into mum and dads bed at 3am every morning, they all lead to tired parents! The great thing is that there are many resources to help parents overcome such challenges - books, the internet, health visitors, family members and talking to each other. The downside to all of this is how confusing it can be to find the right technique for you and your child. If you have time to trawl through all of the advice out there you may be lucky enough to come across the perfect technique for you, but the one thing parents dont have is time! And in order to succeed with some form of sleep training (just to clarify, sleep training is using a technique to help your baby/child form good sleep habits and does not only mean controlled crying; there
