Franklin Drilon at Sen. Francis Es-cudero ang naghain ng opisyal naposisyon laban sa paglalabas ngPriority Development AssistanceFund (PDAF) habang palapit angdeadline upang harangin ito.

So far, we have received onlytwo.

If there is no offer of immu-nity, it means shes opening her-self to self-incrimination, aniDe Lima kahapon.

Habang nasa kapangyarihanng Senado na pilitin ang pagda-lo ng mga saksi sa mga pag-dinig nito, hindi nito mapupu-

SHOWBUZZ THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 20134ROMEL M. LALATA, Editor

The Tokyo story, by UgeIts the second of Lanas trilo-

gy of films about small-townPhilippines that started with

Bwakawlast year. With all the accolades thatshe has received here andabroad, Uge, as Domingo isknown in the biz, could easily belulled into a sense of complacen-cy.

But thats not her style.Shes driven by pure passion

for her craft, so she gives her allin every project. At the rateshes going, Uge must build abigger trophy room soon.

Bravo, Uge! You give usmore reasons to be proudlyPinoy.

Uge shares her Tokyo taleswith the INQUIRER:

It was not just my first timeat the Tokyo fest; it was my firsttime in Tokyo. I didnt realizehow big the festival was until

we walked the long green carpetduring the opening ceremony.

    By we, I mean, the Philip-pine team, composed ofBarbersTaleswriter-director Jun Lana;

producersPerci Intalan andFerdinand Lapuz; line produc-

erTonee Acejo; and talent cast-erOmar Sortijas.

As we walked, we paused to

wave at the photographers andfans gathered there. We saw several Hollywood

celebrities, like director SofiaCoppolaand her father and fel-low filmmakerFrancis FordCoppolaon the green carpet.

The opening film wasPaulGreengrassCaptain Phillipsand guess who was present atthe screening? No less than thefilms starTom Hanks! Wow!

Our movie had threescreenings. I attended the first, the world premiere, and thesecond, the press preview. Bothscreenings were well-attended.

The viewers were moved bythe film and had interesting ques-tions for Direk Jun. They asked

why the film was dedicated to(the late filmmaker)Marilou Di-az-Abaya. Why was the film setin a barbershop in the 1970s?

The press knew about thedirectors past works and back-ground. They also asked about

my experiences during filmingand about the significance of

the ending, which I could notyet reveal.

The project came at theright time for me. Direk Jun of-fered me the role over a yearago, but I declined at the timedue to previous commitments.Last March, we got to talk againand he asked me to read the

    script.I literally applauded after

reading. I was hesitant to ask ifhe had picked an actress for thelead role of Marilou.

There was a slight confu-sion, too, because when I askedabout the projects status, hetexted back: Its a pity that westill dont have a lead actress. Isaid, I thought you wanted me?

He asked, Are you saying yes?Where we shot, in Quezon

province, there was no electrici-ty, no cable TV, no cell phonesignal. We were isolated for al-most a month. I told myself,This is not just work; this is de-

votion. But no matter how chal-lenging the conditions, we werealways happy on the set. I livedthe simple life. We climbedmountains and crossed rivers toreach the set.

I came back to the Philip-pines after the two screeningsfor the shoot of my next film

Kimmy Dora 3. (Also about tobe shown was my latest movie,Chris Martinezs Status: ItsComplicated.)

Then I received an e-mailfrom the organizers, asking if Icould fly back to Japan to attendthe awards ceremony. Theypromised to give me additionalbreakfast coupons.Hahaha!

Back in Tokyo, I noticed that

    the organizers and volunteers

were reserved people, but happyto see me. The Barbers Talesteam felt weird but excited. When my name was announcedas best actress, we hugged oneanother and cheered. In myspeech, I joked that the extrabreakfast coupons convinced meto return. Plus, I still had a lot of

things to buy from (discountstore) Don Quijote.

My speech was worthy ofMiss Universe. I said, Our filmtackles women empowerment. If my country had a gender, it

would surely be a woman [be-cause of] its beauty and re-silience. It keeps me inspired

wherever I go. O di ba? All Ineeded was a swimsuit! Haha-ha!
