Easier said than done, butdoable if only the biz moversand shakers would be willingto. If they badly want change tohappen, it will.
Excited EugeneEugene Domingo is excited
to start shooting Here Comes the Bride. After the tremendous suc-cess of her launching movie Kimmydora, doesn’t she feelpressured to outdo herself?
“Not at all,” Uge says. “Infact, I am just so excited to domore films this year. I’m meet-ing with creative minds aboutstory lines and concepts. It’s allabout helping each other inmaking a worthwhile film.”
Kudos to Uge who takes fun(in making movies) seriously!
LJ’s wedding bellsLJ Moreno is all agog for
her wedding with cager Jim-my Alapag on Aug. 19. “Heproposed last Oct. 1,” thebride-to-be says. “He threw asurprise birthday party for me.He blindfolded me from thehouse all the way to the hotel. When I took off the blindfold, all our friends and family werethere.”

Unusual way of showing love Although Tita Nena loves
Liezl dearly, she has an unusual way of showing it. Both of themshould not have granted thoseTV interviews which only didmore harm than good to their volatile relationship.
I remember hiding from TitaNena for six hours as she wait-ed for me to come home at thetime when she wanted to inter-rogate me about Liezl’s elope-ment with Albert Martinez. Sheknew that Liezl and I don’t keepsecrets from each other. I didn’t want to commit a breach of trust with Liezl, so I didn’t di- vulge anything to Tita Nena.
Liezl and Albert had so many struggles in the US but they stuck together. That’s why Icried at their church wedding where I was one of the brides-maids.
It’s been 25 years since thatday. Maybe aside from Liezl and Albert renewing their marriage vows, Tita Nena and Liezlshould also renew their vows asmother and daughter—so notonly Liezl’s cancer might becompletely healed, but their re-
lationship as well.Sometimes we have to loveour kids a little less to under-stand them more. And as chil-dren, we must remember thatour parents might be too old to
bend that they might break, so we should be the ones to reachout to them.
The new year is as good atime as any for Tita Nena andLiezl to do exactly that—away from the glare of TV cameras.Lotlot and Guy
Lotlot de Leon had a happy reunion with her mom Nora Aunor in the United States lastChristmas.
I remember Ate Guy used tofrequent our house when I wasgrowing up. Ma took the Super-star’s deepest secrets with herto the grave.
Lot is my kinakapatid. Even when we don’t see each otheroften, we somehow feel con-nected.
That’s why I’m happy toknow that all is well between Ate Guy and Lot.
Wish for changeI asked director non-pareil
Joey Reyes what changes he wants to see in the local showbiz industry this year.
“Greater and wider patron-age of good and deserving indie
movies,” he said. “Greater re-spect given to the film and TV workers as creative agents andnot merely as instruments foracquiring profit. A healthier andmore constructive spirit of com-

No more Cuban coaches for national boxersBy Cedelf P. TupasFOR THE FIRST time in two years, the Amateur Boxing As-sociation of the Philippines willnot tap the services of foreigncoaches to hone the skills of na-tional boxers.
Although acknowledging thetechnical expertise of foreigncoaches, Abap executive direc-tor Ed Picson yesterday ex-pressed confidence on the abili-
ties of Filipino coaches handling
the national teams which arepreparing for the Asian Gamesin Guangzhou, China.
Pat Gaspi and Nolito “Boy” Velasco serve as coaches of themen’s squad, while GlicerioCatolico and Roel Velasco han-dle the women’s team. The twoteams combined for five goldsin the Southeast Asian Gamesin Laos last month.
The boxing association hiredCubans Enrique Steyners and
Dagoberto Scott as consultants
from the beginning of 2008 un-til August last year.“I feel that they (Cubans) al-
so gave our boxers a lot of tech-nical knowledge,” Picson said atthe PSA Forum held at thePhilippine Sports Commissionbuilding yesterday.
Meanwhile, Picson also toldthe public sports session hostedby Pagcor, Accel, Outlast Battery and Shakeys that no member of the national squad is assured of
a slot in the Asian Games in
Guangzhou, China, this year.Charley Suarez who won thefeatherweight gold medal in theSEA Games is a strong candi-date for the squad.
“Let’s just say he is one of the frontrunners,” said Picson of Suarez, who was also impres-sive in the World Champi-onships in Milan last year.
Picson is also not dismissingthe possibility of two-timeOlympian Harry Tañamor mak-
ing the Asian Games squad.
