While church services are online, here are some ideas for what children and young people of different

ages can do during the service, to help engage in a different way. We have loved hearing of families

sitting down together to tune in to church , so this is something small to help during the sermon slot, just

like Sunday Kids groups

Today’s story is about when Jesus talks with Peter. He was known as Simon until Jesus

gave him a new name that means ROCK. Use pens or paint to decorate a rock from

your garden with words or pictures that you would say to Jesus or he would say to

you. Like ‘I love you’, ‘you’re great’, ‘love each other’… You might need to wash it

first. If you don’t have suitable materials, try making a message of love using rocks or

other objects in your garden to spell out the words.

Do you own an etch-a-sketch? Do you know what one is?? You could

write and draw with them and then shake it and the image disap-

peared. There are more modern magnetic versions now. Why not dig

one out of your cupboard? Or a messier version would be a tray of

sand or salt (not flour its far too precious!). You can write in it any-

thing you think that isn’t quite right, that Jesus wouldn’t be happy

with. You can be confident, that just as in the story Jesus wipes away

our mistakes and calls us into a life serving HIM! What does that look

like for you? Try drawing it on an Etch-a-sketch thingy!

After breakfast with Jesus on the beach last week, Peter and Jesus talk.

How do you think they both felt? Is it worse when someone close to you betrays you?

Jesus gave Peter a new name when he first met him meaning ROCK, he famously said, “on this ROCK I will build my CHURCH”

Now that Peter had denied even knowing Jesus, not once but 3 times, do you think that prophesy was taken away? ...No! This

account of their conversation sees Jesus reinstate Peter and forgive him.

Often we can worry that we aren’t good enough for what Jesus planned for our life. But the truth is, Jesus sees beyond our

mistakes into our potential and he calls us to join him in the mission of God. What do you feel God is calling you to do? If

you’re not sure, why not start with creating a mind map of all the things you are good at and enjoy, then pray about how God

would want you to use those skills.
