Metro Travel closureSYDNEY-BASED independent

travel agency Metro Travel Centre has wound up operation, effective 30 Jun 2016.

Established in 2004 as Jetset Travel Marrickville in Sydney’s inner west, Metro Travel Centre was headed by general manager Felicia Georgas and specialised in Greek & European travel for the VFR market, according to the firm’s still active website.

“In 2014 with changes to the Jetset Travel Group model, we saw the perfect opportunity to bring our signature name ‘Metro Travel’ to life by pioneering a new direction forward with our tailor made group and luxury tours,” the website explains.

Despite promoting a range of 2016 tours to Tasmania, Europe and Cairns, email replies confirm the business has ceased trading.

The agency was set up by the late Helen Georgas who died suddenly about 12 months ago at the age of just 47.

Analyst starts HLO coverageRESPECTED travel and tourism

financial analyst John O’Shea from Bell Potter Securities has initiated coverage of Helloworld Limited, with his first report rating the stock, currently trading at $3.18 per share, as a ‘buy’.

O’Shea, who is one of the presenters in the seminar program at the upcoming Travel Industry Exhibition in Melbourne next week and Sydney the week after, says “the immediate investment appeal of HLO is centred on the material synergies and cost savings expected to be realised by the new management team over the next two years following the merger with AOT”.

O’Shea’s analysis suggests targeted cost savings within the company are achievable, particularly driven by factors including streamlined head office administration costs and staff changes “including salary rebasing from CEO level down”.

He said the addition of AOT’s inbound division also adds an important growth element to the company particularly given the recent strength in holiday arrivals into Australia.

The 430-metre long walkway, due to open to the public this summer, is constructed from reinforced glued glass panels and joins the two sides of the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon.

Video footage of the safety test shows thrill-seekers trying to crack the bridge’s floor with large sledge hammers, CLICK HERE to see the footage.

A Volvo SUV then drove over the bridge to demonstrate it will be safe for tourists.

AFTA updateFrom AFTA’s chief executive, Jayson Westbury

“OH DEAR”, “How could this be” they say out loud. To the people of Australia, you have spoken in almost perfect harmony, the federal election appears to be like the most

boring weekend soccer match, a tie. It would appear that both the Labor Party and

Coalition will end up with 72 seats in the lower house each. Hardly a great result for the country, but a great result for Labor as they have clearly climbed back from the trenches in this election and done an amazing job in winning back so many seats.

Meanwhile there is an entire cottage industry being created called “The Crossbench”. This new industry may well be the answer the country needs as each of the stall holders start to knit and weave their way into a better position nearer to the throne. By this I mean the independent and minor parties who have won seats in the lower house will hold the balance of power and depending on which leader they like more, Malcolm or Bill, turn one of them into our next Prime Minister.

Deja vu some would say, in that this is how we rolled during the Rudd-Gillard-Rudd years with little to no real policy developed by the major parties and concession after concession being made in order to keep a government in power.

Brexit suddenly looks like a well organised plan compared to the mess we now find ourselves in here in Australia. It will be at least the weekend (09 Jul) before we know the result of the vote counting for both the lower house and the Senate.

And then of course, regardless of who actually gets the keys to the lodge we now have the new Senate. It does appear that one needs to dress or have a hair colour the same as the seats in the chamber in Canberra, as red is the new black.

If we all thought the fun and games of Clive Palmer provided a level of entertainment over the past three years we have not seen anything yet, with Pauline and Jacqui now being the new power brokers of the modern democracy that we hold so dear in Australia.

As for Nick Xenophon, well at least he has proven to be a solid rational person over his time in the Senate, so as the line plays out in the best Star Wars movies; Nick – Use the Force, as it may well be our only hope.

For those that don’t find my words at all funny, I make all these remarks in total jest – this is bloody serious and while I am a loyal political follower, I have no idea what is going to happen and as such I have reverted to an attempt at humour.

Hang on tight, as we have a way to go to work out who will be running the country post the 2016 Federal Election.

Congratulations
