  • To provide a vivid perspective on the profound and enduring impact of the World War II experience on American society.

    Our Vision:

  • WelcomeDear Museum Supporters,

The 2019 season marks the 25th anniversary of the Wright Museum and with that we celebrate 2018’s record setting accomplishments highlighted for you in this Annual Report.

Last year almost 19,000 visitors from numerous states and countries attended our exhibits and participated in our expanding educational programs. To help make this happen over eighty volunteers contributed their time as docents and mechanics for the museum.

Since the Museum was founded by David Wright and his family in 1994, more than 400,000 visitors have enjoyed their experience at the Wright Museum of World War II. Throughout the years, the great generosity of our supporters, as well as the vision and dedication of our staff and volunteers has enabled the Wright to meet its goal of contributing to the education of future generations by offering timely programs, innovative exhibits and special events.

As the Wright Museum transcends into its 25th year, we invite you to see how it has evolved to “provide a vivid perspective on the profound and enduring impact of the World War II experience on American society.”

We thank all of you who have been a part of the success of this ongoing journey.

We came upon this on a wet rainy day. Being from England we are used to rain and also to Museums. What a surprise then to find this world class treasure of a museum in the small town of Wolfeboro. A beautifully presented summary of all aspects of life through the war years and a thoughtful well organized analysis of the war and its terrible cost. So much information almost too much to take in. Also a fine collection of beautifully restored vehicles in working order and it’s a venue for regular community events. Everyone should visit here; it was a real privilege. Thank you. 2

    Visitor Reviews:

  • Great small museum. It has not only military items but also depicts life on the homefront. There is a small room dedicated to each year from 1939 to 1945. Well worth a visit.

Spent a couple of hours here. Particularly memorable was the Time Tunnel, and the film Women of Courage (shown on a small tv set on the upper level) about the experiences of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) of WWII, not formally recognized for their service and quietly disbanded after 2 years. Fascinating story. The entire museum has an exuberance and love for its subject and our country in every aspect of the exhibits.

What a great gem of a museum! The Wright Museum shows various facets of life in our country as World War II raged on overseas. There is something here for all ages. From the cool tanks for the kids to the household scenes for the teenagers and the history through the decades for everyone else. There is always something new to see so visiting again and again is not boring.

    • In 1930, the Diamond Match Company opened at 77 Center Street.

    • Diamond sold lumber, building materials, paints, and hardware.

    • In 1990, after several mergers, Diamond International closed its doors.

    • David Wright purchased the old Diamond International site.

    • David then demolished the majority of the lumber yard.

    • Only building #4 was retained to house the vehicles, but a snow storm destroyed the building.

    • Two new, freestanding buildings were constructed: Building 1: A new building to house the vehicles Building 2: The main building refurbished for the

In the operation of the museum, due to a vigorous exhibition schedule, it is common for the timing of expenditures and funding not to align in a calendar year.

In addition to being featured in TripAdvisor’s 10 Best Museums in New England, here are highlights of 2018:

    • Almost 20% of our 2018 visitors were students. • The Ron Goodgame and Donna Canney Education

Series attracted more than 1,700 attendees.

    • The Victory Garden master gardener Christin Kaiser delivered about 250 pounds of produce to the local food pantry.

    • The Museum was honored to host an award ceremony for Roger G. Campbell of Tuftonboro. Mr. Campbell served in the OSS in Burma from 1942-45. He was with OSS Detachment 101 (Kachin Rangers) and their job was to “remove the Japanese and clean the Burma Road to allow supplies into China.” Senator Shaheen presented the award. Mr. Campbell is 97 years old and thoroughly enjoyed his day of tribute.
