What is Marketing?

Marketing is ATTRACTING an audience. It’s a form of advertising. It can be accomplished through billboards, commercials, newspaper ads, magazine ads, store fronts, e-commerce, direct mail, or radio.

Your assignment is to recreate a logo using Photoshop.

Creating your logo

You must find a common logo that people recognize or that you think looks cool. What you don’t want to do is find a complex graphic that you can’t create easily and quickly.

Marketing is a “tough” game because there are so many products “out there” and all manufacturers want THEIR product to sell better than the others! Television and radio are made possible by the “ads”—and advertising—air time–is expensive!

CREATE IT!

Bring in your label or tag from a product you have purchased OR find one on the Internet.

Open Photoshop. Open – New – the size should be 2 inches by

2 inches…300 resolution…transparent background

Your canvas will appear. Be sure your Ruler is on, your layers are on and your history is on.

Saving it

Save to your 047 as your last name_graphic and as a .psd (Photoshop file).

When you are completely finished you will save it the same name, but drop the file extension box down and select .jpg. Save the .jpg file to the IN BOX.

Yearbook and Newspaper have completed their logos.

Yearbook Class

If you are in Yearbook class you should finish editing and saving your photos for the photo documentary.

You can save your InDesign file you want to enter into the Adobe

InDesign Contest. All photos MUST be linked. Save to the Yearbook IN

BOX called InDesign Contest.

Newspaper Class

If you are in Newspaper class you should work on creating a wash

away photo and saving it to the IN BOX. Some also need to finish up

editing and adding photos to a folder for your photo documentary.

Magazine Class

If you are in Magazine class you should work on finalizing your

magazine article, place your photo and have Hannah edit the article. If you are finished you should create your logo. Save your logo to 047 until you are finished. Then save the file as a .jpg to the IN BOX.

Fonts should be selected carefully. Why? So you can match the fonts used in the

graphic you are reproducing. Typography is everything.

You can also use the symbol tools in Photoshop to help you along.

Remember to create a new layer for every new part of the graphic—including typed phrases.

If you finish, you may work on the wash away effect with a photo of your choice.Ask the substitute for the handout (directions.) Have a great Friday.
