no sign-up. Just choose a convenient day & time. Contact Sherri Turner, 352-746-

SEMINARIAN DINNER AND MAGIC SHOW
FOR ALL CRHP SISTERS Our Monthly CRHP Renewal Meetings continue on March 4. There will be no meeting in April as the first Sunday is Easter and the second is Divine Mercy Sunday. Meetings with resume on Sunday, May 6. Watch the bulletin for dates beyond May.
Remember, we meet from 3 pm to 5 pm in the Parish Hall. The meetings are open to any woman who has attended a CRHP weekend whether or not you were part of a team.
The format will continue with Scripture, faith sharing, fellowship and a witness by one of our sisters. We suggest you bring a Bible, notebook or journal, name tag (if you have one), and a desire to grow spiritually.
Light refreshments are provided. Come out and renew old friendships and/or form new ones, and strengthen the bonds between the wonderful women of our St. Scholastica CRHP community.
Our theme is The Fruits of the Holy Spirit. However, we are working on a special presentation for the March meeting that ties together the Passover Ritual, Last Supper, Crucifixion and the Eucharist with the appropriate scripture readings. Hope to see you at a meeting.

On Saturday, March 10th, the Knights of Columbus will be hosting their annual Seminarian Dinner and Magic Show to raise funds for their “adopted” local seminarian, Reinaldo Jara, from the Tampa area who is also a member of their council. Wouldn’t it be a thrill to see Reinaldo, after his ordination, celebrating mass here at St. Scholastica knowing that we personally helped him along? Reinaldo may even be able to attend the dinner! Doors will open at 5 pm and dinner will consist of chicken cordon bleu, salad, fried rice, rolls, beverages and dessert. DJ Donna Carrier will be performing all evening and Paul Hallas will be doing his magic act at about 6:30 pm. They will have door prizes and will raffle off some nice baskets. The price for all of this is $15 per ticket.
Sunday, March 11th.
PARISH BIBLE STUDY The parish Bible Study group continues the study of “Israel’s Story”. This is
an Old Testament overview in modern cultural terms, guiding us to what God means to us in our spirituality today. We will cover the Old Testament from the Kingdom of David through the Second Temple Period. What on earth does this mean? Come and find out!
We have started Part Two of our study and will finish before Holy Week. We meet Mondays in the Parish Hall, either 2:30-4:00 p.m. or 6:30-8:00 p.m. All are welcome, “no experience necessary”. For more information, call Sherri Turner, 352-746-2148 or Evelyn Jones, 352-419-7560.

“You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything…” - Exodus 20:4
How many “gods” do you put before God? “Idols” do not always take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and feel. Those are easy to recognize. Many times they take the form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot like pride, power, ego, time, comfort or health.

Mass Intentions for Mar. 5 – Mar. 11
Thank you to everyone who has responded to the request to participate in the 2018 Annual Pastoral Appeal. Your gift is received with great humility, thanks, and gratitude by the thousands of people supported through your donation. This year, we are celebrating 50 years of service and good works in our diocese, with gratitude for the past, joy for the present moment, and hope as we embrace our future. APA is an opportunity to learn more about the 50+ ministries, programs, and services available throughout our diocese. If you have any questions about APA, the services it funds, or how it benefits our parish, please call our parish office or visit our diocesan website at www.dosp.org and discover something new about local Church outreach. If you have not yet responded, please know we want and need your participation! Every gift, every prayer, and every sacrifice brings hope to someone seeking the love and mercy of Christ. Be part of that blessing!

KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH
St. Scholastica Church • www.stscholastica.org Page 8
There’s no better way to deepen our Lenten practice than to review the Ten Commandments. The first three, having to do with our right relationship to God, get the most ink. The one we busy people probably have the most problem with is keeping holy the Sabbath. If we take this commandment literally, babies will go undiapered and dishes will stay on the table, or perhaps meals will not be served. The sick will go unattended and nothing that has anything to do with physical labor will be done. Is mental labor really work? How about changing that dirty diaper (poor baby!)? We need to depend on God to discern how to observe real Sabbath time in our lives. The point of this commandment is that God has given us a great gift: one whole day per week when we are free to rest, worship God, sing, feast, love, and rejoice. As Psalm 19 proclaims: “The law of the LORD is perfect, / refreshing the soul” (19:8). Our Sabbath rest is a great gift, to be received from God with joy, not with nitpicking. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — God gives the law through Moses (Exodus 20:1-17 [1-3, 7-8, 12-17]) or Exodus 17:3-7.
Psalm — Lord, you have the words of everlasting life (Psalm 19) or Psalm 95.
Second Reading — We proclaim Christ crucified
(1 Corinthians 1:22-25) or Romans 5:1-2, 5-8.
Gospel — Many began to believe in Jesus’ name when they saw the signs he was doing (John 2:13-25) or John 4:5-42 [5-15, 19b-26, 39a, 40-42].

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITIONS If your parish is reading from Year B of the Lectionary today, and not Year A, as is normally done when there are elect present for the scrutinies and preparing for Easter baptism, you hear about Jesus driving the money-changers from the temple. If you wished to get as close as possible to this site today, you would in fact be at a Muslim shrine, the Dome of the Rock, built on the ruins of Herod’s temple. Archeologists believe that this striking, gold-domed crown of a shrine is set precisely where the Holy of Holies once was. Jews believe that the rock is the exact spot where Abraham was prepared to sacrifice Isaac. It is not a mosque, as some think, but a shrine, the oldest one in the Muslim world. For them, the rock is the place from which the Prophet Mohammed ascended on a visit to heaven. The Crusaders mistook the shrine for the actual Temple of
Solomon, and the infamous Knights Templar used it as their headquarters and model for their churches elsewhere. The geometric perfection of the shrine is a mathematician’s dream. The inscriptions are not exactly hospitable though, since they encourage Christians to “depart from error” and declare that “Jesus son of Mary was only a messenger of God.” In ancient times, those who prayed here after walking around the rock were given a certificate entitling the bearer to admission to paradise. The ticket had to be buried with them.
