Some Thoughts……
Our first teachers are our feet, hands and our eyes. To substitute books for all these…is but to teach us to use the
reason of others.
(Jean Jacques Rousseau)

The more different kinds of things a child thus gets to
know by treating and handling them, the more
confident grows the sense of himself
with the world in which he lives.
(William James)

If facts are the seeds thatlater produce knowledge and wisdom, then the emotions and the impressions of the senses are the fertile soil in which the seeds must grow. The years of early childhood are the time to prepare the soil. (Rachel Carson)
The life of child would extend out of doors to the garden, surrounding fields and forests. He would have his excursions, his walks and talks, in which the larger world out of doors would open to him (John Dewey)

“biophilia” vs. “videophilia” (1) BiophiliaLiterally means "love of life or living systems." It wasfirst used by Erich Fromm to describe a psychologicalorientation of being attracted to all that is alive andvital. Wilson uses the term in the same sense whenhe suggests that biophilia describes "the connectionsthat human beings subconsciously seek with the rest oflife. He proposed the possibility that the deepaffiliations humans have with nature are rooted in ourbiology.

The nature center can be the one significant place where proper attitudes toward nature
resources can be built. Unless we build good attitudes, especially in young
generation, conversation is meaningless.

Goals of Environmental Education The goals of environmental education are to
develop a world population that is aware of and concerned about the total environment and its associated problems, and develop a sense of responsibility and commitment to work individually and collectively towards a solution for current problems and the prevention of new ones.
For detailed information, please refer to the article by Mohua Guha and Aparajita Chattopadhyay Environmental education: A pathway for sustainable development . Published in IIPS Mumbai, ENVIS center, Volume 2, No. 4, December 2005 .

As shown in the continuum, environmental information, by itself, only addresses awareness and knowledge. Environmental outreach involves information dissemination and requests or suggestions for action (often without the critical thinking, problem solving and decision making steps in between). Environmental education covers the range of steps and activities shown in the continuum -- from awareness to action with an ultimate goal of environmental stewardship.
