District Governor Carl Kruse gave an inspiring presentation on the work that Ro-tary International performs throughout the world. He talked about his trip to India and the work that Rotary does to provide Polio vaccinations to the children of third world countries. He told

us about the home that his Rotary Club helped build in Ti-juana, Mex-ico, in one day none the less (No waiting for building

inspections in Mexico) and the satisfaction that he felt when he handed the keys to the new owners, a family who had been living in a cardboard and corrugated tin metal shack. Pledge, Prayer and Song

Visiting Rotarians and Rotarians With Guests

Our visiting Rotari-ans included Gover-nor Carl Kruse from the Rancho Bernar-do Sunrise Club, Joeph Dhalliwal our Assistant Governor

from the Holtville Club, Judge Jeff Jones from the Brawley, Rod Smart from the Im-

perial Breakfast Club and Permanent Visiting Member, Richard Acosta. Also joining us were Norm Self and his wife

ROTARY MINUTE Neal Hitch explained the origin of Yankee Doodle Dandy which involved a brief history of the American Revolution-ary War and an explanation of how the Hollywood movie industry had used artist license to portray the American

Colonials as experts in guerrilla war-fare when in reality they utilized the rather foolish tactic of standing in ranks, in open fields, firing at the

British Army. There will be quiz on this at the next meet-ing.

The pledge was led by Bob Hahn, the prayer was of-fered by Bob Mapes and the pat-riotic song was strummed by Neal

Hitch as the Rotarian sang Yan-kee Doodle Dandy.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Nancy Thornburg explained the evolution of the process of placing labels in the dictionaries. For many years Nancy and her husband would place the labels in the dictionaries by themselves. This was a long and tedious process. Nancy’s hus-band encouraged her to find a more efficient way to label the dictionaries. He suggested that she utilize the low cost labor that was available at the Rotary Club. Nancy followed her husband’s ad-vice and now they wonder what to do with all of the extra time that they have in their lives.

Jennifer Thomason announced that the Hand and Heart would be providing flue shots for senior’s at the SHS MPR on Saturday. Ron Griffen reminded everyone about the wine tasting and pumpkin carving event that he and Sara are hosting on Fri-day October 18.
