BRIANNA™

Brianna is a soulful young African American girl Blue Jay from Chicagowith spunk and attitude. The only thing that matches her love of music isher passion for the Environment! Her sassiness sometimes gets her intodire straits. But her charm and smarts always get her out.

Brianna loves gliding through the sky while enjoying the beauty ofnature. This girl can fly…and with grace, style and speed. One mightguess that Brianna’s spectacular flying is meant to impress Simon—ifonly she could get him to pay attention!

SIMON™

Simon is a Western Gray squirrel from SoCal,who loves adventure, skateboarding, BMXing, surfing and of course singing! He’s also a joker.Simon shows how you can have fun and be safetoo. His wild antics get him into troublesometimes, but his sensibility, funny gestures andcatchphrases always win—“Gotta love it!”

Simon’s mercuric movements are always precededby various funny sounds he makes with his mouththat coincide with animated hand gestures, wiggling ears and tail. He also peppers eachepisode with Simonisms like “Jive’in alive’in!”

OSCAR™

Oscar is a young Hispanic American SeaOtter from Queens, New York. Oscar feels the

natural beat of not just every song the bandplays, but also every situation The Champs get

themselves into, especially when it has to do withkids’ health. Oscar has a tendency to rant in Spanishwhen he’s frustrated, but he always comes back with acool-headed catchphrase—“No Problemo!”

When Max explains things using big words, Oscar’sLatino roots and borough accent come out as Oscar

re-explains things in terms that everyone canunderstand— “Maximo, bro, it’s not ‘dat

complicated….”

MAX™

Raised in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Max the Mole isa paraplegic who uses his genius and dry wit to helpsolve problems for The Champs. He also plays amean keyboard. Max sometimes needs to break outof his introverted shell, but when he does, look out!

Max’s quiet demeanor is offset by a computer-generated, 3-D hologram which has a zany

synthesized voice and shows the “facts” in funways. This isn’t your ordinary visual talking

“Puter” – this thing’s got “character” and acrazy one at that. (Puter loves to play

jokes on Max and The Champs.) Sayhello to Max’s wild

and witty Puter!

COOKIE™Cookie the Dog is a full-charging bundle of energy whoraises havoc wherever she goes. If she isn’t knockingsomething over, she is sneaking up on someone to startlethem with her high-pitched bark.

Cookie epitomizes the saying, “It’s not the size of the dogin the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.” She plays

all the horns in the band. We can clearly understand all theother characters—animal or human—when they talk.

However, when Cookie speaks it sounds more like “bark-talk.” Cookie is everyone’s lovable dog.

JAMMIN’ J.J. FUNK™Jammin’ J.J. Funk is The Champs’ retro-hip, super-cool manager who’s just wildabout The Champs. J.J is the son of an African American disc jockey from the70’s, whom he idolizes. So, he adopted his father’s 70’s clothing style andvernacular—groovy. Jammin’ loves The Champs and promotes them voraciously.Funk believes that The Champs are the greatest band since The SugarhillGang!

TRANSPORT™Transport is The Champs’ tour bus. Transport can transform intowhatever vehicle the band needs to get to their next concert or to getout of a sticky situation.

Transport is operated by Max and his wheelchair computer, Puter. Max“plugs in” his wheelchair behind the steering mechanism and Transportcomes to life. It also shows maps and images on its 3-D,holographic display.

Whatever the need, Transport will transform itself to get the job done!

RICKY AND THE ROGUE RATS™

This crazy and creepy band is dead set on stopping

The Champs.It includes these

five characters:

Ricky:

A tough, London-born rat with a high-pitched Cockney accent and a maniacal laugh who can play wildthrash guitar. He can’t stand that wimpy do-gooder Simon (who “couldn’t play a decent lick if it bit himon his grotesquely bushy tail”).

Roxy:

Ricky’s cousin from New York and lead singer. She’s a constant nag for attention with a bitter jealousyfor Brianna’s beauty and grace. She and Ricky are the brains of the band – maybe only half a brain.

Smash:

A humongous dumb drummer with long black hair covering one eye. When he “talks” he sings in aSinatra-style voice. Watch out when Smash giggles, because bad gas usually follows!

Slink:

Tall, thin and creepy, Slink plays the upright bass. He nods and snickers at every devious idea that Rickyand Roxy come up with to ruin The Champs. Slink annoys everyone with his incessant smelly burps asmuch as Smash does with his…giggles.

Slink and Smash do most of the dirty work. Together their IQs add up to about 40, so there are plentyof slapstick mess-ups before they finish a job.

Robo Rat:

This coal-driven, smoke-spewing pile of junk and whatnot is the Rogue Rats’ ride. Like Transport, it canchange shape (at Ricky’s command) but it never gets it completely right. Often there’s a bunch ofkicking and screaming, screeching and squealing before the band can get Robo Rat going.

Episode Goals, Structure and Storylines

Episode GoalsEach episode has The Champs embarking on a new adventure as they travel the world to play at their sold-out concerts. Along the way, The Champs solve a problem or help a friend as the audience learns aboutvarious cultures, traditions, animals, and instruments. In addition, each episode subtly integrates anappreciation for and awareness of the Environment, Safety, and Health/Fitness into the plot, music andscenery.

Episode Format and StructureEstablished World: The Champs’ world environment is realisticand believable, representing current cultures. Humans andanimals from around the world interact harmoniously to addressreal-life issues, such as cultural differences, global warming, obesity, kids’ safety and health, tolerance, responsibility, sharing, teamwork, positive role models, etc.

Format: Half-hour show (22 minutes).

Opening: The Champs’ rockin’ theme song brings all thecharacters together at their studio in Chicago through a montagewhere the gang finishes up playing and singing.

Teaser: At The Champs’ studio, the gang receives messages fromthe band’s manager, Jammin’ J.J. Funk, through Max’s 3-Dhologram, Puter. J.J. informs everyone where their next concertwill be and where the adventure begins.

Act I: In preparation for the trip, Max’s Puter looks upinformation regarding the climate, culture, language, points ofinterest, etc. for the group’s world destination. Puter displays andexplains this information on its 3-D hologram in a wacky, fun andcolorful way with plenty of prankish banter between Max andPuter.

The Champs then board Transport who transforms into whatevermode of transportation is appropriate to get them to theirdestination.

The Champs arrive at their destination where they meet newpeople and animals or old friends. They then set off to explore thesites.

To end the act, a problem arises or a friend needs help. Theconflict catalysts are sometimes character driven, most oftenby their rival band Ricky and the Rogue Rats who will doanything to steal the show from The Champs.

Act II: The problem grows. It usually looks like the champs arefoiled or the situation is hopeless. Conflicts will arise fromissues such as cultural differences, air or water pollution, kidsdoing something unsafe, or a health issue or somethingdevious the Rogue Rats have concocted.

“Facts with Max” segments include facts about the problem/issuefacing The Champs and offers information or clues on how to

resolve the conflict.

Sometimes Cookie or Mia, in efforts to help, willinadvertently exacerbate the problem.

Act III: The Champs spring into action, usually teaming upwith a new or old friend to resolve the conflict. TheChamps use the information they gained from “Facts withMax” and are sometimes assisted by Transport whotransforms into whatever they may need to solve theirdilemma.

Every episode concludes with a concert that highlights asong about the episode’s theme and/or problem and

introduces instruments and rhythms indigenous to the regionthey’re visiting.

Target Audience

Target DemographicsThe beauty of The Champs is that they can be easily fashioned to meet a variety of target demographics, including 2-5 or 6-11 year-olds or even a hybrid age audience of 4 to 8 year-olds. For 2-5 The Champscan look younger and be more educational (i.e. explaining terms and new concepts) with 6-11 more hip,and socially relevant (i.e. a character’s popularity would encourage children to follow theirpositive/wholesome lifestyle). The target viewing audience is both boys and girls (the characters andstorylines do not have any gender bias).

The younger children will like the cute, cuddly and slapstick-funny Cookie the Dog and the“baby” animals they’ll encounter as well as the occasional sing-along songs. Older girls willlike the smart, hip and beautiful Brianna the Blue Jay and the zany, fashionabletweener Mia the Mole.

Older boys will like Simon’s humor and spitfire catchphrases and Oscar’sathletic ability and Latin lingo. Boys of all ages will like the “transforming”ability of The Champs’ vehicle, Transport. Both older boys and girls willdig the cool music and stylish dancing.

A special segmentation within the target market is kids who arephysically challenged. These children will relate to the intelligent, dry-humored Max the Mole. They will like his sleek, transformingwheelchair and Puter’s 3-D hologram that shows everyone thefacts. Max demonstrates that even with a handicap, there are nolimitations.

Meet the Creative Team

Robert Lucchesi, CMSP and Richard Hawk

Robert Lucchesi and Richard Hawk are fun Environmental,Safety and Health guys…an oxymoron if ever there was one. Both have a sincere passion for promoting Environmental,Safety and Health awareness in imaginative, humorous andentertaining ways.

Expanded Market Potential

The Champs’ vast marketsegmentation outside of the targetmarket (of five- to eleven-year-old children) is corporations. With the current trend ofCorporate Social Responsibility(CSR) sweeping America andother countries, The Champsoffer an opportunity forcorporations to gain visibility bybeing associated with TheChamps and their causes, demonstrating CSR to theiremployees, communities andcustomers.

Through our work with regional, nationaland international companies such as BP(British Petroleum), Exxon/Mobile, Tropicana,Pfizer and Clorox, we have discovered that manycorporations are expressly interested in being associated withcharacters like Simon or Brianna for the positive public relations it brings to their company and brand.

Client companies in the construction, building materials, petroleum and chemical industries often ask usto help them bring greater awareness of Safety and Environmental Stewardship to their employees andcommunity. Simon will be depicted on signs posted at construction sites or mining operations to warnpeople of safety hazards.

New housing developments, drilling explorations and even timber operations will have billboards withBrianna explaining how these companies use technology to be more energy efficient, recycle, and protectour non-renewable resources.

Another trend sweeping organizations around the world is corporate-sponsored wellness programs foremployees and their families. These health and fitness programs will generate more interest andparticipation if Oscar is their pitchman. Furthermore, what fast-food chain wouldn’t love to have Oscarendorse their “healthy” kid’s meal alternative?

Safety and Environmental training videos are a multi-billion dollar market and represent another marketsegment for The Champs outside of the target demographics. The Champs will make Environmental,Safety, and Health/Fitness training videos for schools, agencies and companies alike. Anotheropportunity is to post The Champs characters on businesses’ CSR websites. There is definitely room forgrowth in this market.
