Film openings To kill a mocking

bird

• In this shot we have a mixed coloured marble rolling away. I see this as a mixed race society trying to run away but is stopped by the black race that respects what their place is in the society back then. This is also suggesting the genre of the film to be based around race.

• Through out the title sequence we see various shots of the pocket watch. I believe this means that time doesn't wait for no one. What ever race you are. In the film we see that the father as not a lot of time to prove that the black man was not guilty. This is also suggesting the genre of the film to be about race.

In this shot we have a rusty whistle, this is suggesting, that their is a race with time. Which there is when the father as not a lot of time to prove that the black manis actually innocent.

• In this image we see a young girls hands over a box. This is giving the impression to the audience that their is a creepy tone to it. It also brings the impression of this kill being innocent and not understanding what is going on around her.

• In this image we see a close up shot of the girl writing to kill. The interesting aspect of this shot is the colours used. It is saying that the black race is seen to be the convict but when looked closer you see that it is the white race that is behind it.

Here we have a picture of the mocking bird before it is harmed, it looks very peaceful which means something disturbing happens to it.

Page 8: Title sequence 1 final

In this shot we see the drawing of the mocking bird is drawn over. This is telling us that someone has killed it. This is related to the title and giving the audience a mystery of what happened to the bird.

We see here some coins, What this is telling us is when the film is set, the type of family this child is from. The coin hasn't got a lot of value so therefore we are looking at a

quiet poor family. And the time is around 1900s.

Here we get a close up shot of a used up pen. What this means that the owner of this uses it quiet a lot. Due to it being in the girls box it also suggests which class she is in. It looks like a poor person pen so therefore it is telling you the background of that character.

Page 11: Title sequence 1 final

Here we get a shot of the girls box and we see that she spends a lot of time on her own. But some of the objects in their are for rich people so it is contradicting with my

previous slides about the wealth of the family of this character.
