Tips to Help you Study

Time management is hard for a lot of us. If you divide what you have to study into manageable chunks, it makes it a lot easier.

Be realistic – give yourself enough time to do it all!

For example – on Saturday, you might study chapters 1, 2, and 3 in science, and chapter 5 in math. On Sunday, you’ll study chapters 4 and 5 in science, and chapter 6 in math.

Studying with a friend can be good for a few reasons:

Different people know different things, they might be able to help you with a concept that you have trouble with

Explaining something to someone shows that you have mastered it, or it can help you learn it better

Making up questions for each other can help you study

*Don’t forget to actually study! This is not gossip time!*

Some people find creating flashcards very helpful when it comes to studying definitions. They can also come in handy if you are studying with someone else.

This might seem like a no-brainer, but you are going to have a hard time on an exam if you’ve never tried the question before. Your teacher took a lot of time coming up with the review questions, and they are to YOUR benefit.

So do them!

Make sure your bag is packed the night before with everything you need. Some of the items you may need are:

Pencils & ErasersPens & WhiteoutPeriodic TableCalculator

Make sure you take some time the night before the exam to relax. Get a good night’s sleep, and have a good breakfast the morning of your exam. Cramming can only take you so far.

Tips to help you find the answer!

Read the WHOLE question and ALL of the answers, and find the answer the BEST answers the question. Sometimes there are two that are kind of right, but one is the better answer.

Beware of ‘none of the above’ and ‘all of the above’ possibilities. Sometimes they are tricks!

Cross out the ones that you know are wrong for sure. It makes picking an answer a lot easier.

Read the whole question and be sure that you know what it is asking before you begin. It’s a lot easier to read over the question two or three times before starting, then realizing that you answered it wrong and having to erase the whole thing.

Different questions are worth different points. Always go for what is worth the most first.

Leave multiple choice & true/false for the end. You can always go through and guess them quickly if you run out of time (always pick ‘C’ for MC, and either true or false)

If you get stumped, skip it! You can always come back, and working on a question that you find easier may help you answer the harder one.

Never be scared to ask a question to clarify what the question is asking. You’ve got nothing to lose!
