P.A.R.K. Program 42 Weeks More than 300 La Mirada youth and their families participate in the City’s Posi-tive Alternatives and Recreation for Kids (P.A.R.K.) program each day. This free drop-in program offered at Frontier, Wind-ermere, and Gardenhill Parks is staffed by the City’s Public Safety Officers and Com-munity Services staff. The goal of the pro-gram is to provide a safe place for youth to learn and play while developing strong relationships in the community. A variety of fun activities are offered such as sports tournaments, crafts, and homework help. Volunteer Coaches Needed Volunteer coaches are the back-bone of youth sports in the City of La Mirada. Without the committed hard work by our volunteer coaches, local youth would not have the quality one-of-a-kind sports programs you see in La Mirada. Continue to help make a differ-ence in your community by signing up to be a volunteer youth league coach. Becoming a volunteer coach is easy. Simply stop by any City of La Mirada facility and fill out a Volunteer In Ac-tion application. Just specify what sport you’d like to coach! Youth Volleytennis League8 Games

If you are 7-8 years old and want to play vol-leyball, this is a great place to start! This new league is a combination of both volleyball and tennis. The net is lower and the ball may bounce making it easier for the kids. This league will be a fun introduction to our volleyball league. Games will be played Sunday afternoons. Each player receives a team T-shirt and player award. Open to ages 7-8. Submit a copy of participant’s birth certificate at time of registration. Sign up today for the Spring 2011 season, as practices begin on the week of 3/7/2011, although sub-ject to change. A $10 late registration fee will be assessed after 2/28/2011. The Community Services Department Youth Futsal program is a non-competitive league designed for recreational play. Volunteer coaches will teach the fundamentals of the sport, emphasizing teamwork, passing, drib-bling and other ball skills. Everyone plays! Each player receives a team t-shirt and player award. Submit a copy of participant’s birth certificate at time of registration. Practices scheduled to begin week of March 7, 2011 although subject to change.
