Tigers are in danger of becoming extinct
Tigers have decreased by 95% in the wild over the last 100 years.
Three species of tiger became extinct by 1980
These were the Bali, Javan and Caspian tigers
There are only 3,200 left there used to about 100,000
This means
At the moment we only have 8 tigers left for each child at our school. We used to have 250 each.
There are 13 countries with
tigers
What has happened?
Tigers are killed for their body parts for peoples homes or for medicine in some cultures
The brain is used to cure laziness and pimples
The whiskers are used to cure tooth ache
The tail for skin diseases
Can they really do that?
Doctors in western cultures do not believe the tigers body
can cure anything and this is just a waste of a beautiful animal
Tiger Poaching
Poachers are taking more risks to kill tigers and countries now have rangers to try and stop poachers
The tigers habitat is being destroyed
The tigers habitat is being destroyed so that people can use their land for farming, deforestation is happening to supply wood and build roads.
What can we do?
Never buy any tiger products
Buy forest friendly products such as recycled paper
Donate to tiger projects such as the WWF
Tell lots of people that tigers are in danger
Tell the tiger rangers you care. We want you all to log onto the WWF site and send a postcard to thank the tiger rangers who are protecting tigers.
