Ground Rules

1. There are three questions. The questions will be displayed separately. We will go around the table for each question and each participant will have two minutes to answer.

2. When all the answers have been given, each participant will have the opportunity to question the other participants on their answer. Responses will be limited to 2 minutes.

3. Questions and comments from the floor (and the moderator) are welcome at any time.

4. No power points please (except this one).

Three questions1. What are the most important characteristics of CMS's in meeting the

needs of an institution? In what ways do CMS's, as they exist and are conceived of today, need to evolve in order to better meet pedagogic andinstitutional needs?

2. How do you see the future of open source CMS systems that emerge from the academic sector as opposed to commercial systems? Which sector do you see as most able to sustain progress in CMS evolution? If you had it your way, in a utopia where adequate resources were available to support your decision, would you build a CMS, adapt one from another University, or buy a commercial one?

3. Will we still be talking about CMS's five years from now, or will we be discussing some other type of software that has emerged from what are now our portals, our SIS's, or our other ERP systems? Or the other way around...will portals and other systems emerge from our CMS's.
