Volume 21 Issue 6 Thursday 12 March 2015 C hinese Sister School Visitation In this week’s newsletter, we present another six pages of collaged photographs capturing the heart-warming farewell extended to the visiting staff and students of our Chinese sister school, Yangzhong Experimental Primary School of Yangzhong City, Jiangsu, CHINA! If the saying, “a picture tells a thousand words”, holds true then our newsletter is certainly conveying voluminous amounts!! As expected, the whole experience was equally enjoyable and rewarding for everyone and the smiles on the faces of our own students and on the faces of our visitors are testimony to that! Collectively, Brentwood Park can be justifiably proud of our endeavours in hosting our first sister school visitation. Parents, students and staff alike certainly promoted our school value of teamwork, as everyone worked positively with each other to achieve our goal - the successful hosting of a visitation from our sister school!! Congratulations, Brentwood Park, and thank you to everyone! S chool Council Elections 2015 At the close of our call for nominations, we had received four nominations for the “parent member category” of school council. Given that we now have four standing nominations and four vacancies in the parent member category of school council, I automatically declare elected those four candidates without the need for the school community to go to election. Congratulations are extended to Lana Cairns, Sandra Prvulj, Lorraine Bless and Taryn Bone. Whilst Lana and Sandra are embarking upon their second term of office at Brentwood Park Primary School, Lorraine and Taryn will be embarking upon their first. Lyn Timmins, current councilor whose first term is also concluding at this election has accepted a nomination as community representative. During the past two years as a school councilor, Lyn has been proactive in liaising with organizations within our community in support of our school. Her forthcoming appointment as community representative of school council will enable her to continue in this valuable role! Our next school council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 17 March. At this meeting, retiring school councilors will be acknowledged in addition to welcoming our new members. The full membership of school council 2015 and those elected to associated office positions, as well as acknowledgments to retiring councilors will be published in next week’s newsletter . S wimming News Well done to our eight swimmers who swam in the Divisional Swimming Carnival on Wednesday.

The competition was very tough, with great efforts given by everyone. Senuth, Tyson and Jack have progressed through to the Regional Carnival. Ty, Arbhi, Max and Cooper came 3rd in the freestyle relay. Lily swam an awesome race and came 4th in butterfly. Max came 3rd in breaststroke and Ty was very close in his backstroke race. Once again, the standard of swimming was super with everyone giving their best efforts. A special thanks to all of the parents and friends who have supported our swimmers.

S chool Cross Country The annual school cross country will be held on 18th March. Students who finish in the top 10

M aths Extension Classes at Kambrya The Year Six maths extension class at Kambrya continue to be engaging sessions for

our students in attendance! Last week’s session began with a review of multiplication and division of numbers with decimals. The learning goal for the lesson was to be able to convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals. The success criteria for the class was being able to convert both easy and more difficult fractions to decimals. The second criteria was to convert decimals to fractions. Students used a number line to help them with their tasks. The whole class was very enthusiastic about their skills and Mrs. Ridoutt, mathematics teacher, was most impressed.

P ractice Makes Perfect Michelle Mason, Year 1 teacher, was married over the long weekend and her wedding went off

without a hitch; obviously due to the rehearsals at school last Thursday. At morning tea time, Michelle walked along a red carpet (practising to walk down the aisle) to the head table in the staffroom where she cut a wedding cake and was toasted by the staff (with bubbly lemonade of course) to her health and happiness with Shannon. Then at an assembly on Thursday, Michelle practised dancing with the children from her class, (not exactly the wedding waltz!) to the song ‘Celebration’, after the children in Year One to Year Three sang the song ‘Marry You’ to Michelle. Michelle wore a wedding veil throughout assembly! No wonder Michelle had a perfect day on Saturday!!!
