President’s Message ……..

We got through the holidays in good shape and our finances remain sound. Snow has only been aminor inconvenience but has denied us some of the winter wonderland vistas we normally enjoy. Wejust have to adjust.

For a short while we had the board at full strength but have since dropped back from seven to fivemembers. Since we have a working board that requires at least ten hours a week from each member, itbecomes difficult for working people to give of their time sufficiently to stay on the board. Boardmembers are a special kind of volunteer so if you want to give it a shot, now is your opportunity. Youwill need to know or learn Robert's Rules, our governing documents, and be able to look at things fromvaried perspectives. The largest present needs are for someone with knowledge of roads and bridges, someone with strong people skills, and we always need someone with business managementexperience. The ability to express oneself in a polite fashion is important.

If you are interested please submit a short statement on your interests for the community and a listingof your educational and work experience. We expect to act on this quickly.

Other volunteers are also welcomed.

–- Dead trees are being removed from the common property. This all is done under the supervision ofTrustee Gary Miller. Contact him if you want to be a volunteer wood cutter. Gary also acceptsvolunteers for security

–- Office volunteers are coordinated by Carol in the office. If you want to join her crew, just talk withCarol at 419-485-5995.

–- Those with mechanical skills and the ability to operate power equipment and farm tractors may wantto volunteer by contacting Trustee Mike Sentle in the maintenance department.

–- As we build data bases to help with the property management and collections, volunteers will bewelcomed to put this together.

--- The other kinds of volunteers are very helpful to the community. Those who help run activities, those who pick up the litter, and those who do a little extra mowing and trimming in theirneighborhood to make this a better community.

The only chartered committee still active is Beautification. They always deserve our applause.

Jim Waldron is now functioning as our Secretary-Treasurer. He is working well with Carol to get ourfinancial reports up to GAAP standards.

One more item is that we have an updated amortization schedule for the payoff of the dam. There hadbeen concern that a large balloon payment was going to be required in 2025. We now have a newrepresentative from the bank who assures me that an error in the old schedule has been corrected and anew amortization shows that the loan will be paid off in 2025 with no balloon payment required. All iswell.

Vice President//Trustee/Buildings and Grounds

Happy New Year! As a newer resident of the lake, I have been working on orienting myself with the operationsand responsibilities we have as an association to maintain our unique community. It amazes me as I meetother members, how rich and deep some of the history and knowledge of the lake these members have! AtLake Seneca, we certainly have opportunities we can develop that other communities do not enjoy. With thatbeing said, we will have to plan and prioritize where and how we put our investments to improve ourcommunity. I would encourage all association members to actively get involved. Volunteer to start and leador participate on committees, clubs, or planned activities. Attend board meetings, apply to become a boardmember, and most importantly, participate in the annual membership meetings! These are the vehicles thatcan be used to help shape and develop a vision and roadmap for our LSPOA community!

Two major items that will be addressed in the first few months of this new year are:

1. The lodge roof: Replacement of this has been kicked around for some time now. We know that 15-17kwill need to be allocated for a full replacement. A more formal Request for Proposal (RFP) will beconstructed and sent out in March. The RFP will allow us to better compare value between contractors whoare using varied materials and services, and to help us best decide which contractor should be awarded theproject. I would expect that the prioritization and funding options for this project will be presented inApril/May timeframe and pending approval and funding, work to begin shortly thereafter.

Page 3: Thunderbird January thru March 2016 - Lake Seneca · 2018-06-27 · Jim Waldron is now functioning as our Secretary-Treasurer. He is working well with Carol to get our financial reports

2. The pumps: Another topic that has been kicked around for some time now is the care and maintenanceof the pumps located on road R and road 9. I am working with Mike Sentle and others to determinewhat options are available for maintenance, and what the recommendations are for moving forward. Inaddition, responsibilities between LSPOA, Bridgewater, and Williams County Engineering is beingverified, and recommendations for a sustainable funding plan and maintenance plan will be developed.

Otherwise there have been some good ideas & recommendations being brought up at the monthly boardmeetings. I encourage you to come out and participate, and look for some of these additional topics to comein future Newsletters.

Maintenance

The winter has been very mild so far. We have not had to plow snow as much as last winter, so it has given ustime to do repairs on some of the equipment. We want everybody to know that our equipment is over twentyyears old and it needs to be replaced which takes money that we do not have. We are still working on the pumpson county road 9 and R to upgrade them.

The following is a list of materials needed for repair of the bridge at the front entrance…….

Security team has been busy since the last report. We have 3 people out each day. We are loggingaround 1,000 miles a month on patrol around the lake. We have taken care of several small issues thatI am not at liberty to discuss at this time. We are currently in the process of installing surveillancecameras at different locations around the lake. As weather improves we will be asking for morevolunteers to add to our team. At this time I am working on several ideas to try and raise money tohelp with the costs of these projects. Anyone interested in working with us please contact anyone onsecurity or myself at 419-551-5807.***Orange security flags are available at the guard shack at the 576 North Entrance. Million Dollar Pound Cake

1 cup softened butter3 cups sugar1 teaspoon almond extract (You can also put in a different flavoring such as lemon or orange extract)1 teaspoon vanilla6 eggs¾ cup milk4 cups flour

Cream butter and sugar until creamy. Add the eggs, one at a time and beat well. Add the almond and vanilla extracts.Alternate the milk and flour. Grease an angel food cake pan or spray it very well. Bake at 300 degrees for one hourand 40 minutes. I know it sounds like a long time but really one hour and 40 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes andthen remove from the pan. You can make a glaze with powdered sugar and milk with some more almond extract.Tastes really good with fruit.
